They may have not been allowed to speak about it before, Sony is the publisher and probably has stipulations in the contract… marketing? I’m sure he is aware of plenty of things for the game that he can’t out won’t talk about.

The only reason I thought required account linking was a terrible idea is that the game would then become unplayable for players in 177 countries where PSN isn't available. They took the damn game off the market in said countries too. Which is BS for the people in those counties who purchased the game and had been playing for several months.
Once again, PC players will revolt against mediocrity, we have higher standards.

People are pissed off because this requirement would have stripped some people's ability to play the game in which it was previously playable.
I get that, the frustration and betrayal they must’ve felt.
But I do wonder why this shift to get players to sign up unless they got something more/big in the future like with a launcher? Does mlb the show require a PSN account to play online on other consoles? I could understand if it was something for cross progression.
They can track better within their own system and use to increase MAU's and numbers.
That's what they should have done to incentivize linking your psn. Or give you some super credits.
I want to fully agree with you on that, it would be a nice perk, but to those where it doesn’t exist would still suck.
They should’ve been more upfront with it, maybe set a reminder in game somewhere….this is what loading screens were made for lol
I wonder if this means future games won’t get released in said countries where psn isn’t a thing…cos I’m sure Sony still wants to do it, the main reason I see it is for cross progression and maybe cross purchases
Yeah it would suck but at least they would still be playing the game.
Those in unsupported countries should have never been able to buy the game officially at least anyways. I'm sure PC gamers would find some "way" to play either way
