Horizon: Zero Dawn

Preview events meant to be happening this week.

HYPE!

Seems like European and Asain press got to play it today whilst tomorrow American, British and youtubers get to play it tomorrow.

There are some gameplay vids out there that show new stuff, at least new to me. This game is looking really good and with more depth that I had first thought. There is crafting and three distinct skill trees and I even seen Aloy using a missile launcher she knocked off one of the larger enemies she was fighting.

The whole thing of mechanical animals reminds me of the game Enslaved. It didn't do well but it was something I really enjoyed.

Youtubers? Great, so it's just another game that we don't play, but watch? :hehe:

Yep there is a lot more depth than people think. Even melee combat:

I wish it wasn't, only because I won't have time to play it at launch but want to.

Sony are going all in for this game. Marketing, merchandise etc I truly hope it pays off because Playstation needs a new mascot till God Of War and TLOU Part 2.

I hear ya. I keep thinking is it February 28th yet or what. Then i realize i probably won't get Horizon at launch anyway. Got enough on my plate.

Stop releasing games year round Sony. You're killing me.

Please stop with the statue. I don't need any more of these. It is only $95 after Best Buy discount though...

How do you dust it though?

Well, I would start with my tongue down at the base and work my way up...err, wait...you are getting inside my head! Actually I guess you could use one of those keyboard air blowers and blow it...err wait, there you are again! Damn, Belly you are corrupting me!

Heaven sent you an angel. Or hell sent you a demon. Pick one :p

But just make sure that while your slurping, you roll your tongue from the back. It makes a big difference.

And also, if you're wearing makeup, if anything below your eyes is still intact, you're doing it wrong.

People have played over 4 hours of this game so I am expecting some real in depth impressions on Monday. If this game delivers and Mass Effect underwhelms then I think we can say there has been a shift from North America to Europe in regards to who makes the best RPG's after CD Project Red knocked it out of the park with Witcher 3.

Looking forward to seeing more of the game on Monday. I've been holding off buying a Pro until this game releases, so hopefully it takes full advantage of it and not be just a few minor differences from the base console.

Sounds great but Japan makes the best RPG's.

Its like a skeleton with makeup.

And If she came to your door steps horny and alone you'd fk the s*** out of that "Skeleton with make up.".

Going by interviws they said Horizon couldn't handle 60 fps considering the Pro wasn't in mind during development.). On the flip sid Horizon looks way better in 4k. You'll be suprised at the diiferences.

4k tv owners may aswell by a Pro. The OG Ps4 like s*** on 4k displays.

I know that the game won't be able to do 60fps, I'm just waning to know what sort of enhancements the Pro will have on this game.

Idk about the OG PS4 looking bad on 4K sets. I went from a 720p to a 4K TV, and I'm still getting used to finally seeing games running in 1080p. It still looks good to me at least, but I need a real reason to buy a Pro other than minor enhancements that most of the games so far have gotten.

We’re also looking at enhancing the quality of our shadow maps and increasing the quality of our anisotropic filtering. This is a technique which increases the quality of texture sampling, resulting in more detailed environment textures. We still have to tweak these elements of the 1080p output quality for the final game, but we have quite a bit of power yet to play with.

In addition, Horizon Zero Dawn on PS4 Pro will fully support users with 4KTVs, outputting at a much higher resolution. We’re rendering 2160p checkerboard, which is a special technique that looks incredibly good on a 4K TV. You’re going to notice a ton of subtle details, from stitching on Aloy’s outfit, individual leafs and branches swaying in the wind, kilometers away in the distance and more detail in all machines and NPCs in the world.
Then there’s HDR, or high dynamic range, which is a brand-new feature that enhances the range of colours we can display. It’s very exciting and hard to explain, as it’s something which most people haven’t ever seen before, so they don’t know what to expect. You can’t print it, it’s not in cinemas, your phone’s screen can’t do it. The only thing that you can compare HDR with is reality.

We normally have to do a lot of work in the engine to take an internal high dynamic range image and then make it suitable to be displayed on a normal TV. A lot of colour fidelity gets lost in the process. If you own an HDR-enabled TV, we don’t have to lose that data and you’re looking at the image in its full glory, with brighter and deeper colours, more contrast and vibrancy, in its pristine state. The benefits are truly awesome.

For me as a developer, the most exciting thing about the PS4 Pro is that it provides a lot of extra processing power. It will be interesting to come up with different ways to put that additional horsepower to use – from finding more efficient ways to output at high resolution, to giving non-4K players more display options, and much more.
