Yeah, that sounds good. Take a break, put it on hold for a while. Get it right the second time. All (well, most) will be forgiven if they deliver a great second game. Guess we won't see it for a while.

This game arguably needed 1 more year in development. I like certain aspects but did they drop the ball with alot of others. Glad to hear that any further development of the series has been put on hold.

It is dumb. The groundwork has been laid and would allow them to produce a good follow up.

Hope all you fickle crybabies are happy now...bet none of you bat aneye at the next big game with similar issues.

Another post somewhere (I think I saw on reddit) said that personnel in bioware montreal were moved to battlefront 2. Makes sense to me, regardless of the games reception. Just about everything in development before the star wars license has been released by now I'd figure. Now they're moving everyone possible to the most lucrative (interchangeable with "star wars") projects they have available.

Mass effect would probably do fine, but a new star wars RPG is gonna get a lot more attention. Plus what others are saying, it will help to take time and assess what went right and what can be improved for this series. I don't think it'll be another dead space. (RIP)

I would love SWTOR sequal on console

You should put the blame where it belongs. On EA.

To be fair there's alot of blame to go around on this one. Unreal sales expectation from EA, unbelievably high expectations from consumers, middling to average development from Bioware Montreal. All 3 IMO played a factor in this. Thankfully no one lost their jobs and the project will continue at a later date. This isn't the death knell for the series. EA knows there are still stories to tell and more importantly, money to be made with Mass Effect.

Now had Square Enix been the publisher, totally different story. Series would be dead. SE's killed Deus Ex, Sleping Dogs and Hitman for not meeting expectations. We're lucky we're getting another Tomb Raider.

I don't know what their sales expectations were but I think its reasonable to expect growth. Not so reasonable to expect that and release before its ready because you want to get it out before the end of the quarter.

The expectations from consumers are high because the trilogy was great. Not going to blame anyone for expecting a great game.

Yeah we don't know what EA was expecting to hit 2 months on the market, but its fair to say they didn't get it. I'm curious as to what kind of growth in sales EA was expecting. Say for example if ME 2 - 3 hit 1-2 million units during their 1st months was EA now expecting Andromeda to do 2-3 million? That to me is unrealistic. Now if Andromeda only shipped .5 - 1 million in that same time then there is cause for concern on their part.

High exceptions from consumers is good but can lead to unreal expectation. IMO fans expected a game on par with the original trilogy. What we got was a decent - good game that wasn't great. For any other studio, that's ok, but for the elite marquee studio with rapid fan bases, its not.

Gold MP is more enjoyable now. Much less running away and the pwers and weapons I tried actually felt like they did something.

Yep. Great balancing update for multiplayer. Plus the new map is full rotation now, with an extra objective, one new character and a new assault rifle.

You guys do know Bioware Montreal didn't make any of the original trilogy, right?

They did the Omega DLC which wasn't great but the negatives for this got blown out of proportion and it's actually a damn good game.

I know and that immaterial to the discussion. If the game has the Mass Effect name on it along with the Bioware name there is certain expectations of quality that come with it.

I can't get into the game, & I am a big Mass effect fan. The new Ryler is boring, teammates are boring. New friendly Alien is boring & looks weird, new enemy Alein is boring, No control over teammate & can't gear them.

Can't understand tem, when ME2 came out & you can't gear teammate, people cried, & they brought it back in ME3. Now they reove it again, & even remove control of teamate & pause to issue command during combat. Funny cuase In DA inqustor, being able to control & gear teammate is part of the charm.

The only things I like are better visuals, more open world & reseach & developments-

I'll wait for EA Access.

But what a shyt show.

No doubt, some of the stuff you've seen or read is blown out of proportion, but let's face it. This game probably needed at least 6 months of polish, as well as a redesign of face/animations during development.

Funny how they seemed to churn out patches fast to help the quirkiness of the stuff people are showing on YT, yet during the game's what???? 5 years of development, nobody in the dev team noticed or cared to fix it during those multi year dev times?

Maybe, they were hoping to slip it by gamers in hopes nobody would care, and that it was "good enough", where Ryder's quirky visuals would be accepted as something funny. But it got blasted.

Gamers cared, and patches are released in record time, as if they were ready to pull the trigger if gamers reacted negatively. Go figure.

I'm f*cking good, man, thanks. I enjoyed my time off, but I think I'll sit and stay a while. I don't plan to be much of a moderator anymore, though. I think that was part of what made me want to get away -- I felt like I had to set a good example, not be mean to the Xbots, phrase everything in a fair and balanced way, etc.. I decided to say f*ck all that. Hopefully that will help me to enjoy my time here more. The second main factor was listening to all the MS fanboyism and anti-Sony stuff around here; that was aggravating, and it interfered with my ability to enjoy my gaming. I'm still a PS guy in an Xbox forum, so we'll see how long I'll last.

But it's fun to be back after 8 months and engage in the back-and-forth again. I looked around for other forums, and although I enjoy GAF -- find it very informative, full of discussion about games I'm interested in, etc. -- having conversations over there is really not possible. Plus, a lot of the people are very reactive and emotional about SJW type stuff, and people constantly take you out of context because they don't know you. I tried to find a PS-focused forum, but surprisingly, there really isn't a healthy one around (at least none that I could find).

So I drifted back here. Meant to just post about how great Horizon was, but got drawn in. Like I've said before, this (TXB/Union) has been my internet home for 17 years, so I'm not going to just up and leave permanently. I may need to take breaks to preserve what little mental health I have remaining, but I'll never leave for good.

Yeah, I've poked around different forums, but never felt the right vibe. Here feels like a gaggle of buddies. Even when we don't get along, it's got an almost familial presence. For me, at least.

Gaf makes for some fascinating reading, but I'm not sure I'd want to engage there. The constant "Why you no game on PC?" threads are funny, annoying, interesting, and sad at the same time. It's an interesting place to study Psychology, I think, lol.

I finally finished the game. I can see some of the criticisms but I ended up spending probably 80 real hours in the game and it's certainly value for the money spent on it. Some of the "go here, scan this, then go there, scan that, etc." quests did get repetitive and I feel like the crafting/research system and AVP were sorely lacking, and the main quest storyline didn't seem to pull as hard as you'd think it should. On the other hand, the team and the interactions between them and Ryder and between themselves I really enjoyed and the loyalty missions generally were very good.

I think I'll definitely end up playing it again in a year or two, once I work through a few of the other games I own through GWG or cheap deals, and give it time to feel fresh again. Might not end up doing as much of the side stuff second time through, and it's not quite the same as past Bioware CRPGs where you have the good playthrough and evil playthrough (or paragon/renegade, open palm/closed fist, whatever) but there's enough there to make it worth experiencing again to see how approaching things differently works. Plus I've got to play a female Ryder once to take a run at Suvi. :B->:

I’ve spent the past three months investigating the answers to those questions. From conversations with nearly a dozen people who worked on Mass Effect: Andromeda, all of whom spoke under condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to talk about the game, a consistent picture has emerged. The development of Andromeda was turbulent and troubled, marred by a director change, multiple major re-scopes, an understaffed animation team, technological challenges, communication issues, politics, a compressed timeline, and brutal crunch.

Many games share some of these problems, but to those who worked on it, Andromeda felt unusually difficult. This was a game with ambitious goals but limited resources, and in some ways, it’s miraculous that BioWare shipped it at all. (EA and BioWare declined to comment for this article.)

Mass Effect: Andromeda was in development for five years, but by most accounts, BioWare built the bulk of the game in less than 18 months. This is the story of what happened.

Thanks EA
