I recently picked this up on sale. So, I did some digging looking to read what gamers thought about the game and I came across an article which said that this game is much better now after all the patches. I'm thinking of starting this soon since I'm always in the mood for sci-fi action/RPG.

What happened? Is it because the series is on hiatus and team members have been assigned to different projects?

Teams been moved to star wars apart from a small group that will do MP updates and the last of the SP patches

Wow, so they're just bailing on it. I'm sure there were big plans for DLC, originally.

No SP dlc coming apparently
That's upsetting. The story itself was told really well, imo.

There was so much lore there, if you were willing to look for it.

And for the people who say "yeah, but I shouldn't have to look for it!"... That's how the entirety of the universe has been delivered in the previous games.

I really did miss the quarians though. As f***able as the Kett were, i missed my little freaky droid people.

And the animation in the monoliths were stunning (even if the gameplay itself got a bit old...) I'd love to see proper base building in the next one. Even if it's a mix of Dark Cloud and Fallout 4.

Seems hasty to say it's been cancelled for sure when it's all been rumors.

This "sinclair" company got a rise out of EA: "Update: EA has provided GameSpot with a statement regarding the new report. It declined to share any new details regarding DLC plans, but it did confirm, "[W]e have never worked with Sinclair Networks and they had nothing to do with the development of Mass Effect: Andromeda." This disputes a claim made in a recent Facebook post, which alleged that a company named Sinclair was working on Andromeda DLC that EA had since canceled."

And bioware: "“While we can’t talk about future yet, I can def say we build our own dlc/patches for our games and don’t hire fake companies to do so,” wrote producer Fernando Melo."

The unwillingness to speak simply about whether the stuff is cancelled or not can be telling, but in gaming news I don't believe in accepting something until word comes from the people in charge.

There was a made up story on Facebook but the Kotaku story which said the DLC is cancelled was not referring to that.

So only half the rumor has been addressed. It's still not enough for me to go in either direction.

Didn't think it was even getting any to begin with but I do hope the game gets its expansion. I genuinely like it. For all the noise about this one, if there's a purchase I regret this year it would be for honor.

Oh, s***, they're giving up on Mass Effect and aiming to take over the White House!

Amazon and Gamestop have this for $20. Good price but points out what a bomb this was.

Yeah seems it all started by a BS group claiming to be developers

Doesn't make it any less true given that the Kotaku story is not using that as a source and even mentions that as being fake.

Normally I'd not care/entertain the idea of buying any DLC, but the mine DLC for Dragon Age was pretty spectacular.

At $20.00 this is a steal. Is it a great ME game? No not really but its a good jump off point for those new to the series and a great time waster if you don't have anything to play during the "summer Drought"

I've heard it's a better game if you skip most of the optional side-content. Is that true?

Yes. Skip all the optional stuff except the optional loyalty missions. Everything outside of the loyalty missions is just padding.

Full notes

I see the game is $20. I think it's time to bite.

Yeah, $20 is great. It won't go lower than that.

Grabbed it for $20. Going to give it a shot tonight. It was one of my most anticipated games of the year. I avoided it when I heard the issues but I see some of the patches have addressed some problems.

It is well worth the $20. The criticisms were justified but the improvement from patches just show it needed more time. EA sabotaged their own game and maybe the future of the franchise.

Well, at least they got it out in time.

Good reminder of why game delays are sometimes (often?) a good thing -- for the game, for fans, for the developers, and for the future of the franchise. Take your time and do it right.

Agreed on both counts but I can't put all of the game's failings on EA. I can't blame EA for bad gameplay decisions. Especially given when going into Andromeda, a lot of the complaints Bioware knew about and vocalized that they would not be present in Andromeda. Then lo and behold they are there in spades.
