Microsoft Closes Redfall Developer Arkane Austin, HiFi Rush Developer Tango Gameworks, and More

Being on Gamepass was supposed to increase game sales, no?

I feel subscription services like GP, PS+ made me jump from game to game more while finishing less games. Not sure why
It has, but from what I’ve seen, what people have stated, at least for HFR, only about 10% of GP subscribers downloaded the game

GP and PS+ have been great for indie games I’ve played, bought and finished…most big games I don’t complete unless the story really hooks

He states truth, click bait antagonizes and curates artificial engagement. It works for almost everything…. “Person pushes animal into street and hits car” people are like “wtf, their evil” and go straight to the comments, instead of reading the story that the person pushed said animal into the street away from their child that was being mangled further than losing more blood.

He kinda did the same earlier tho, it upset some developers, and fans.

I feel like a lot create an emotional connection, like with any fandom, be it sports, musicians, car companies, politics.

Some of it is just fake outrages that others capitalize on.

I could go on but I gotta go 😆

Already commented on that, but I don’t think they should be worried, they got so much shared tech and knowledge of it with unreal engine that they’re like two studios in one, shoot they’re technically three, working on multiple things. Maybe they can make an action rpg in the fallout world

Yeah but think about what the other internal studios must be thinking about now seeing how well Tango did and still got the axe. 1) are the target goals just too overly ambitious to hit to remain alive (cod or big AAA sales numbers) and 2) how the f*** did 343i survive ? 😆

Hope so too.

Digital only for HB 2, first game wasn't a huge sales success is an uphill climb. Maybe they can become a support studio if anything.

It’s not just HiFi Rush. Ghostwire Tokyo also flopped, as did Evil Within 2. They historically weren’t a profitable studio and their key creative took off.

But did it? Or did it meet MS metrics? Over 6m players.

Should Double Fine be looking for a way out? Ninja Theory? Compulsion Games? They aren't AAA and the games they make aren't ever going to be big instant blockbusters.

Other internal studios are probably more sadden by what happened. What I find strange is if they tried to spinoff tango instead? They could probably all just stay together, maybe join Shinji ar his new studio. But he said he left cos he wanted the younger talent to have more say and do their own thing, he was confident in them, or so I assume.

As for the second try e same thing could be said for any studio. Sony probably got rid of their most creatively talented developer with Japan studio, they took more creative risk, big and small. Then you have insomniac, letting go of a bunch of their devs and losing a lot financially in vestments that have yet to pay off and cancelation of their games like Spider-Man. I get that they spent more than some of their Spider-Man movies on marvels Spider-Man 2, but that was an investment on almoat every front wits their future marvel games….which luckily some of said tech will show up in their future marvel mp games.

Something had to be in the red for them to do such a thing. Rare had been given a huge amount of slack with sea of thieves. Players were mouthing of that they were being forced into certain games, but they’ve said time and again it was stuff they went to Xbox for the approval cos it’s what they wanted to do. When Xbox bought them most of their founding and key devs left. Now they’re working on indie games as contractors or at platonic games, which they’ve only made two games since its foundation in 2013.

Right now none of know what’s really went happened behind closed doors or conference calls. I’m sure some devs in the highest positions knew. Cos many don’t seem to be shocked. It’s strange, I saw one dev pissed, but they haven’t been working for one of said dev teams for a good while, but they’re entitled to express themselves like anyone else. Context would help tho

If key members, specifically leadership leave then there might be something to worry about. Arkane had many devs leave whilst in development of Redfall, they were hiring tons whilst in development. Tango had key leadership leave too. If said things were to happen or continue then said devs and fans would have a sour taste that, well, who knows what could happen

Guess he isn't a fan

1. No.
2. There isn't one.
3. Says the person who was so bad at his job he had to stream a crappy gaming show and be critically negative to attract clicks. Bet he prays everyday that he was back in 2009 when his was last relevant.

Hmmm...

Playstation lay off 900 people including Insomniac staff - Cause restructuring.
Days Gone sells 10 million - Cancelled.
London and Japan studio - Closed.
Playstation will release almost nothing for 2 years - Because money.
Sony's MAUs drop - Despite being supposedly so dominate.

Square Enix sell several studios - Cause restructuring.
Square support for more platforms increasing - Because Playstation only now results in failure.

Come on people. Stop the nonsense. The industry outside of Xbox are doing the same things for the same reasons.

Same for me. If I don't buy a game, I'm FAR more likely to delete it immediately if there's something about it that I dislike or can't find a reason to get into it. I installed and deleted State of Decay 2 several times while playing it on GP. I bought it on sale fairly cheap and forced myself to play through the boring beginning and ended up spending 40+ hours on it.

It's way too easy for me to delete a game on a subscription service if I don't find a reason early on to keep playing...compared to owning it and not wanting to waste money.

Dono how or if even accurate but would make sense when thee head/face of a studio, usually the founder leaves a company to start a new one, it’s usually a thing when they sell their private company to another or a public entity….like when Kojima got let go or Mikami left the first time.

He left Tango but spent the last 8 years training new leadership. Who put out the company's best recieved game.

Why do we care what an abusive former boss has to say? :p lol. I'm sure Phil isn't happy about having to do it, nobody with a heart would be but a lot of the issues that xbox has faced over the last gen and a half have been over decisions Phil made.

Not only is this not the guy you want championing for you right now. The message is dumb and he should never have typed it let alone hit send.
