But nobody buys Japanese games

Western gamers like the Souls games. They also liked the original Ninja Gaiden. This is one of those rare Japanese crossovers like RE, MGS, Souls and Final Fantasy are. When people like me say these lists of Japanese exclusives are irrrelevant in the West, we're talking more about Japanese RPGs outside of FF and the likes of Gravity Rush.

Last Guardian, Gravity Rush 2 and Nioh pretty much all gone.

TLG and GR2 are niche. In fact Japan Studio's purpose is to provide unique and interesting games from Japan. If they changed their purpose they might have bigger hits but Sony seems to like them being unique.

Doesn't matter what Sony likes. Sony doesn't own most Japanese studios that give them exclusives.

A quality game is a quality game. I don't give a fk where it comes from. Some of you dudes are disrespectful and borderline racist.

That's ridiculous. When people say they aren't into Japanese style games, they're referring to a specific style of games. Has nothing to do with the country or people developing the games. In fact, most people don't include or think of games from From Software or Capcom.

No it isn't. I heard everything from "Jap Crap" to "weaboo trash" just because the games are from Japan.

They also stereo type every Japanese game as hentia or light porn. Meanwhile the same peiople gush over Meelina's outfit in MK9.

The games from Japan that I really love don't get made anymore. Other than from Nintendo and occasional kickstarter projects.

You're lumping a lot of people together. I'm not a fan of anything anime. There is a certain cartoon style that most Japanese artists seem to emulate in gaming. When they try to go more realistic looking like with MGS, RE or Dark Souls, their games appeal to the West. Most people in the West don't care about the other stuff and there's nothing racist about it. Western developers also follow stereotypes in style but those stereotypes appeal to Western gamers.

Dark Souls 3 and MGS5 are my favorite single player campaigns this gen. Both have brilliant game design and fun gameplay to go with interesting worlds. I don't see those tastes translating to most things coming from Japan.

Its certainly not racist but the generalizations and lumping of all Japanese games together doesn't make much sense either. Mario is Japanese. Zelda is Japanese. Pokemon?

Also never really understood what difference it makes where a game is popular

Horizon Zero Dawn' tops week 9, ahead of 'The Legend of Zelda: The Breath of the Wild'

A bumper week for gaming is led by ‘Horizon Zero Dawn’ which tops the chart as Sony’s biggest ever PS4 launch of a new IP (ahead of No Man’s Sky). Released on Wednesday ‘Horizon Zero Dawn’ is also the biggest launch of the year so far and Sony’s biggest launch since ‘Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’. Ubisoft’s ‘For Honor’ falls from No1 to No5, having to make way for both Horizon Zero Dawn and new Nintendo Switch titles.

Released on Friday, Nintendo Switch brings with it ‘The Legend of Zelda: The Breath of the Wild’, which debuts at No2 for both Switch and Wii U. 78% of sales were for the Switch version with 22% for Wii U. The Switch version becomes the 3rd biggest ever launch of a Zelda title, behind ‘Wind Waker’ on Gamecube and ‘Twilight Princess’ on Wii.

There were 5 new Switch games at launch, 3 of which enter the Top 10 including ‘1-2 Switch’ new at No4 and Konami’s ‘Super Bomberman R’ debuting at No7. The Switch version of ‘Just Dance 2017’ helps Ubisoft’s game re-enter the Top 40 at No24, while the Switch version of ‘Skylanders Imaginators’ fails to lift the title back in to the chart. The only other new game to make the Top 40 this week is Telltale’s ‘The Walking Dead: The New Frontier’ which begins life at No19.

Pretty good for Zelda to hit 2 considering install base. But then again anyone who bought a Switch and didn't buy Zelda is likely non-existent.

Other thing, Rocket League is officially a gaming institution now like Minecraft, COD, Forza, BF, FIFA, etc. That game has been on the charts for ages and rightfully so.

Zelda includes Wii U but yeah I would be surprised if many of the 80k consoles sold didn't have Zelda with them
