Not ones that put out better than PS4 gaming visuals
Actually, Batman Arkham Knight on pc beats ps4 visuals.

I own that version and it is a looker but loses to horizon zd on the Pro with a 4k/HDR display.
Most pc's can't run AK with nVidia game works,high resolution/fps ;)
Most pcs could run Arkham Knight, but the Denuvo DRM kills performance.

Been a lot of talk about the resurgence of Japanese gaming recently by the gaming media. Mid tier Japanese games are reviewing better than ever while Sony and most of the media is pushing them harder than they have in 15 years. If they don't start charting over some of the garbage that makes these lists during the time of the year when most Western publishers hold back releases, I don't think they'll ever be relevant. Be interested to see what happens in the next few months.

Series that were niche before are still going to be niche. Should the media not push quality games as being quality games if they know they won't be big hits? Nobody complains about that with movies.

And spring is never really a quiet time of the year

Didn't say the media shouldn't. I've been considering giving a few of these a chance after more than 15 years without any interest. Outside of Horizon and Zelda, these games are dominating the talk on general gaming podcasts. So now I wonder if some of those games will crossover to mainstream the way Soulsbourne games did when they got the same push. Japanese developed games are being pushed as higher quality in gameplay than Western games on average by the hardcore and media alike. It's the primary reason Xbox is considered to be so far behind PlayStation in perceived quality of exclusives. Are wallets going to back up the talk?

Well what the hardcore likes doesn't necessarily represent the mainstream but I am not sure what games we are talking about and again nobody does this with movies. Nobody downplays Moonlight because Batman Vs Superman made more money.

But I have to ask if a game sells X number of copies why does it matter where they were sold?

The thing is that for every Japanese game that sells well in the west, 10 flop.

They got left behind towards the end of the last gen by trying too copy western games but we have seen a couple of solid titles this gen.

I'll give Japanese developers credit. The primary reason their games lost popularity in the West is the controls and gameplay became outdated. When they first tried to fix it, Japanese games lost their identity. Now they've learned to blend modern controls into their unique personality. I think the rise of Indies has made people more open minded to quirky, different games again. Japanese games are really the only ones filling that void of something off the wall different with bigger production values than Indies. I believe the media is pushing them with hopes that Western publishers catch on and create more unique mid tier games.

So I'm watching these sales with interest. It would be good for all gamers if good mid tier games sell well. Even if these developers never break from their loyalty to Sony, Western publishers might be influenced.

I still don't know what games we are talking about. What is getting pushed?

Pretty much most PC game beat PS4/Xbox One games, as well as PS Pro games.

So PS4 beat Xbox One for February NPD but don't think there was any official numbers. I heard Microsoft is now bragging about an 11% increase in game hours or something. Yikes.
