Thats bulls***. There is no way that can be done. Also why would you hold back something on people for these years?

It can if the HDMI was 2.0 to start with, but only got certified to 1.4.

The reason they likely didn;t do it from the start is because HDR has only really been a thing for 9-12 months.

just a question but ..say when battlefield 1 drops, I have a Xbox slim.how would the two versions differ if the slim can upscale to 4k. Just trying to see if the upgrade would be noticeable.

The Slim is 720p/1080p upscaled in 4k. The Pro is 1080p/1440p upscaled in 4k. To put it in perspective the Pro is 3x more powerful. You'll get better preformance, textures, lighting, draw distance, 60fps, anti alliasing, etc. pretty much everything. Far as Battlefield 1 it runs at 720p on Xbox 1. it'll just be upscaled in 4k. The Ps4 can run it 1080p so that means the pro will run it at 1440p upscaled in 4k along with better preformance, Lighting and draw distance.

It won't be upscaling from 1440P at all, as that is a horrible res to upscale to 4K. It will upscale from 1080P.

I've read that before. Is it because it's not a direct multiple of 2 of 4k?

I would have thought anything closer to 4k would be better to upscale.

Yeah, add on top of that there aren't any 1080p sets that support HDR and you'll likely find any need for that up to this point to be very limited. It's a cool add on but still pretty useless if you don't have a 4K HDR set.

I'm incredibly disappointed the Pro isn't the beast that it was hyped to be. I'll get one eventually, but I was hoping it would make me throw money at my screen immediately.

Keep the digs to nil everyone. We've pretty much all said we had to about it. Continually harping on the Pro and Sony's decisions, that we've already voiced out opinions on, is being a bit trollish. We're better than that.

I find the pricing on Slim odd. I thought it would be cheaper, especially since the games they showed at E3 looked almost as good as what they showed for the Pro (which is a compliment to the PS4). If anything, the event would have made me want a Slim over the Pro, IF it was in the 250 range.

The hard part for Sony (and MS next year) will be showing off what higher res and HDR can do without seeing it in person, you'll always have quality issues with youtube videos and most people don't have a monitor or tv that shows what HDR can do. If you listen to the report from Eurogamer the games looked noticeably better in person, it just doesn't translate well online.

Yeah I woulda thought they'd price the Slim a bit more competitive to the Pro than they did. However, it's a good way to steer new PS4 owners to the Pro instead of the Slim.

Slow PS4 Pro pre orders may be a sign of the lack of interest.
PS VR, Xbox Elite controller, even the Nintendo mini NES all sold out within hours of their initial listing.
Here we are 2 days later and you can still easily pre order a PS4 Pro.

PS4 runs Battlefield at 900p, not 1080p.

I think by next year, the Pro (and whatever is shown for Scorpio) will be shown with high res texture packs and some good bells and whistles on (especially if the game being shown is running 1080P) that will speak for itself, vs the "vanilla" PS4/XB1 versions, on regular old 1080P sets.

I would think pretty early in the PS4 Pro's life (and Scorpio for that matter) that devs really haven't had the time to properly give the Pro aspects in their games much treatment.

I didn't think it was hyped as that much of a beast, aren't the specs that have been leaked from the beginning pretty much identical to the final specs? It seems that the lack of a UHBD and the announcement of Scorpio have tempered it's reveal. It still is a pretty good mid cycle upgrade in specs/price.

I wonder how this will change game distribution in the future.

If you don't have an internet connection, will the disc give you the full experience? Can they fit all the data/materials for the full experience?

Or will it be a massive download? I already hate having to wait for a game to install, let alone download the updates.

And I wonder what the list of mandates from Sony are. The game can't run worse on the Neo was one.

I would think that you'd have to buy the platform specific version (XB1/Scorpio or PS4/Pro) and each would contain all said assets, if buying physical. Same for buying digital, just specify which console your buying the game for.

If you have the Pro or Scorpio why would you even want to get the "vanilla" version of a new game.

i have Xbox one S preordered, i have PS4 Pro preordered, i am gonna preorder Xbox Scorpio

i love we are getting these consoles and not being stuck with piles of s*** for another 4-5 years. i only wish scorpio was sooner. And for those that might say i should be on PC, tried it (gtx 780 few years ago) and it just isnt for me

For some reason, I see it the other way. They'll be the same disc with "Pro" ready tagged on somewhere. Same for the Scorpio.

It's the same generation, isn't it? If they're different discs, well, that shatters the illusion a bit.

And then you couldn't take your Pro disc back to your PS4.

Edit* are you saying the PS4/pro are the same platform!? Same with Scorpio?

In regards to the HDR mode, they literally pulled and Oprah.

You get HDR! You get HDR! You get HDR!

For free! That should have been pretty awesome. I don't understand the secret tech behind it. But still! Good for gamers!

Good for the 99% that can't use it :D

You buy the game, and the system tells it which version to use. That game would be available for use on the other version as well, so if you put it on that version, it will automatically use the appropriate settings.

I haven't posted it yet because I can't get any other sources on it thus far, but there is one rumor that it might be releasing earlier. Possible I suppose, but I'm sure it will depend on cost for everything. And even if it does, I doubt it will be by much.

We don't really know if they are slow but nobody should expect this to be as big of a deal as a new gen, we aren't even fully 3 years out from the PS4 launch yet. This will probably have strong sales but it won't jump out of the gate the way the PS4 did after a 7-8 year wait for new hardware

True. And considering their market share do they real need to sell THAT many? I wonder what their projections on Pro sales look like. I feel like even if all sales tank (which they won't), PS4 as a whole is still a runaway success.
