Rainbow Six: Siege . . . how I can’t wait to have you in my grubby hands. You’ve been gone too long--the roots of you, that is. I miss the days of choke points. I’ve been longing for those close quarter battles that neither Call of Duty nor Battlefield have been able to provide. I need it and it’s looking really good that Rainbow Six: Siege will deliver in 2015. But why are you making me wait so long?

Having watched the live gameplay demo of Rainbow Six: Siege (developed by Ubisoft) that recently came out, one thing is readily apparent: there’s a new king of CQB on the horizon. Rainbow Six: Siege is rooted in realism. There are no over the top perks that make you super human. In order to excel in the game you need to take your time and plan it. Running and gunning won't work. You need to give each second of every round your utmost attention. If you slip up, you’re a goner. The game is about stealth and bursts of aggression. You need to move slowly but you can’t sit and wait. There’s a time limit for each round. If you’re a sloppy player, like I’m known to be in Call of Duty occasionally, you’re gonna get mopped up real fast. I’m welcoming the change with open arms.

Shoot everything in sight will do nothing but expose you to the enemy. I like that. Rainbow Six: Siege does a great job of employing vision, as well as auditory input, to expose enemy locations. You need to listen for more than footsteps. You can hear the subtleties of rappelling, so long as everything’s quiet. Along with auditory there are visual clues as well. You’ll see anchors through the opposite side of the wall if it has been reinforced. If you see a barricaded window with a little opening then someone’s probably scoping through it.

If you don’t like talking to the public while gaming, like I don’t, you’re gonna have to for Rainbow Six: Siege. Everyone needs to work as a team. The players broadcast locations of enemies. You can use your drone but that leaves you open and drones can be easily destroyed. It will take your teammates broadcasting enemy locations to to conquer each round. If you have a good group of friends you always game with it will be even better. Rainbow Six: Siege is not a game for dead air. You’ll need to talk it up.

In the demo there were a few barricades the team in the house can choose from. While the amount of each barricade seems to be unlimited, there's a timer for how long each one takes to install. You can’t just construct whatever you want. You have to plan it out. The beauty of all of the barricades is that there’s an infinite combination of how you can install them. There will be some trial and error to determine what the best locations and types of barricades to use.

Rainbow Six: Siege is an intense FPS shooter. During the live demo the tension was palpable as gamers inched along during each round. As mentioned earlier, your auditory and visual senses will need to be heightened in order to excel in the game. I’m looking forward to the pressure Siege will bring; it'll be something I haven’t really felt since the first Gears of War. Being the last one on my team alive with multiple enemies still roaming around will be a blast.

Ubisoft has the makings of a winner on their hands. Rainbow Six: Siege, along with The Division, is about to turn the tide of the FPS genre. I feel this change is needed. While I buy Call of Duty year in and year out, I’m bored with it.The Call of Duty franchise needs a complete engine overhaul, which is claimed to be in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. It’s stagnant and the online code is some of the worst going. Hopefully there is improvement. In my opinion, Battlefield 4 is a chaotic mess because of the amount of players, not to mention the disaster that it was for months due to massive bugs. With that said, I’m really looking forward to Rainbow Six: Siege. It’s going to add some much needed variety to the genre.

I'm with you, this game cannot come soon enough. I'm hoping some of my friends will have an X1 by then though because I'd like to have a good team to play it with.

I am optimistic but not convinced about this game. On the one hand it sounds great. On the other hand I am not convinced this will be the team tactical game we all want it to be. Plus, I want to see some other locations and environments in which these matches take place. I want to see how varied fortifications are. Can I cut power to a building and go in all Sam Fisher, or am I limited to the conditions the game sets.

I am happy a game like this is coming. Like the OP I am a little burnt out the run fast, Rambo, huge clusterf*** FPS games we seem to have in abundance. Come on Ubisoft, do not fook this up, please.

I can't wait to have it in my slender, effeminate hands.

It looks amazing. I fear it will be nearly unplayable with randoms though, worse than Battlefield.

That's why smaller multiplayer games are the way to go. Make it a point to friend quality teammates and you'll be able to fill up a five man team with no problem.

God I miss Splinter Cell.

Too bad most gamers won't play the game as intended, and will move on.

It's going to have a very small following, but truth be told, you don't need a large community to enjoy the game...just like minded gamers that know how to play the game as intended.

I'm interested in this more than your typical shooter. I like the idea of communicating with your mates and planning the objective (working together).

I know its a bit of a ways out, but friend me on XB1 if you want a friend. Gamertag -> Grimmy

I didn't even know this came out in 2014.
Oh snaps! Fo real? Well, that makes things a bit easier on the wallet now doesn't it. I've got some time then to come up with an explanation to tell my wife why I bought this game too! LOL

EDIT: Wait a minute. The video PV posted doesnt say. When is this game getting released?

It's coming in 2015, I don't think there's a date yet though.

and clans for us to tear apart

I'm cautiously optimistic for this game. Why does Ubisoft have to publish/develop some of the most interesting games?

Most anticipated game right now. Can not wait. My body is ready for some long hours of MP action!

The older Rainbow Six games like Vegas and RS3 had a decent sized community I thought.

Looks...OK.

Definitely more interesting than Call of Duty but God Damn these games haven't evolved much over the last 15 years.

Bring on Splinter Cell multiplayer please.

Looks potentially more interesting than any shooter in awhile. I'm just impressed they aren't just trying to cater to the COD audience.

Evolve JUST came out and while it didn't exactly deliver on it's promise, the concept was far more interesting.

This is basically a new Call of Duty, set at 80% speed, and it gives players a few defensive measures before digital "hot hands" begin.

Doesn't matter if the concept is interesting if the execution is not.
