XCloud "simply does not compete with Sonys offering"

"There's an extra twist to this too. Not only is the video stream lower quality on Xbox's cloud gaming service, but users are being served the Xbox Series S versions of each game I tested - despite confirmation from Microsoft that xCloud datacentres are built on Series X silicon."

"In visual settings, frame-rate, and functionality then, the Xbox Cloud Gaming version of Requiem is a fingerprint match for an Xbox Series S. In truth the setup here is little disappointing if you're playing on a Series X machine. The Xbox cloud experience not only suffers fram additional compression, but the content itself is not representative of the visuals or performance you'd expect from a local Series X install. As a way to sample the game ahead of installing it, we're not getting the 'full-fat experience' in the way you will with PlayStation Plus streaming."

"The frame-rate-reading is identical between a native Series S install and Xbox cloud here. Likewise, its visual settings for shadows, textures, and alpha effects are a match. By contrast, if we swap over to an equivalent test of PS Plus cloud streaming, there are identical results on a local PS5 install versus the Sony cloud - which translates to 20fps lead on PlayStaiton Cloud versus xCloud, alongside a higher resolution and improved visual settings. Again, it's no contest."

"So, Xbox Cloud Gaming has an issue then - and it doesn't just afflict third-party titles, as Halo Infinite and Gears 5 also run at lower internal resolutions (1080p and 900p respectively) when streamed via the cloud. In both cases, these are lower figures than what we'd expect from true Series X hardware. Added to that, there appears to be a bug with the Xbox service on occasion, causing a 30fps cap with uneven frame pacing to appear regardless of game. In the case of A Plague Tale Requiem and Back 4 Blood, the first times we launched each game over cloud triggered erratic, choppy performance - thankfully fixed with a reboot of the game. PS Plus cloud streaming had no such issue: in every case we were met with a PS5-equivalent experience, at least before video compression and latency are taken into account."

So PS Plus Cloud streaming is better than Xbox's surprisingly.

Digital Foundry: Xbox is unable to compete with PlayStation in cloud technology.

As it stands, PS is the premium experience and it isn’t even close.

PS is MUCH higher quality and Xbox is streaming Series S despite having Series X blades

Yup. However Xbox has the better content and more devices.

Depends which games you're a fan of I guess. However experience is a big part of cloud gaming and it looks like premium is doing well in that regard. Plus you get access to some great PS studios offerings too. Win win.

Of course you side with PS, imagine that.

Ones in beta. Why MS are so slow to improve it considering how obsessed they are with cloud gaming is anyone's guess.
Still going to be funny when they find out it's not going to take off/over traditional gaming.

I don’t know if this qualified ad news, but I am ranting this frustration on spefifically about stylised character in games ( specifically western games) and animation ( not anime).

Many people who design stylalize chars are bad at designing stylish characters.

Notable are the Felix game ( Zelda like) from UBI soft, element anaimation from Pixar, and latest, the gorilla looking human from no rest for the wick. Why the hell do my char looks like gorilla?

I think many people mix caricature with stylish or cartoon characters. Caricature is about exaggerating ones feature, most often not in a kind way, like super big nose, super long chin etc. they are not meant to be pleasing ( a bit like modern art). Animated characters, include Anime, are about styling, but asthetic pleasing, because shocking news, people like to look at pretty things.

Disney classic style used to be the gold standard, classic like Snow White, Cinderella, Aladdin, which every anaimators used to replicate, and kids love. They are still the gold standard. Which is why games like fortnite, overwatch, valanrant, borderlands follow the template, with a bit of their own spin.

By the way, no rest for the wicked was by the studio that made the ori series. For sure the artists are very talented. But animated characters design has some asthetic guidelines (like anime) . It’s a guideline which means you do not have to follow, but nevertheless, at least people who want to design should learn, then evolve.

Wicked is one of my most anticipated game, and the gorilla characters are Not deal breaker, but as someone who into char since drawing Disney chars as kid, I have to shake my head and ask why?

Nah, they’ll be saying the same only with what ever the third part is called. Stuff like “future ff games can learn a lot about travel with the new airship mechanics”

Literally combine the deep battle RPG system and open world exploration of rebirth and add in the epic boss battles of FF16 and guarantee FF17 will be a big hit.

I didn't think they would be willing or able to make a FF title that feels classic while including modern RPG elements. Rebirth is what a FF should be in 2024. Stop trying to make action games or mimicked western RPG.

Easily the best game in the series in the past 20 or so years.
