Official Thread Ratchet and Clank: The Thread Based on the Game Based on the Movie Based on the Game

I'm at the very end of the game, almost done. Great fun. It's crazy how many bolts and parts and effects and enemies and sh*t is all going off at once. It almost covers the whole screen, at segments near the end. Crazy. Most fun I've had in a game all year. Of course, it's the only game I've played all year, except Firewatch, so ... otoh, it's the only retail game this year that interested me, so far. No doubt Uncharted is going to top it, but I'm sure this will go down as one my favorites of the year. Like I said before, I played the first game twice already, the last time only a couple years ago, but this whole game felt new to me.

I finished R&C last night so I could start Uncharted 4.

If not for UC4 I would have kept going on with the challenge mode game. I'm with you Andy, happily surprised how much I enjoyed the game. Some parts took a few tries as the enemy count was at times prolific. I am not a fan of the weapon wheel switching as it left me fumbling for fire too many times...though I suppose you could also say it added to the frantic frenzy of the moment and led to a few hilarious (or maddening) miscues.

I wish there was more jetpack stuff as that was the most fun next to the weaponry and bolt gathering. Not a fan of Clank especially the camera forward running levels. Trainriding was great, controls for grinding annoying, and the hoverboarding a little meh. The worlds were all amazing and begged to be explored. The enemy variety was excellent and I was shocked at some of the animations they included when you did some things that normally would be unexpected. The fact that I could go on and on commenting about this title is endorsement enough for it being the best platformer and/or remake this year to date.

The reason i didn't start Ratchet & Clank was because i knew UC4 was coming. Plus i was still playing Street Fighter V. I've been tough on this gen overall but we're really starting to get some good games. Whether people think they're rehashes or not is beside the point. Three years in and i'm really starting to enjoy this gen. Can't believe they're talking about new hardware already.

Yeah, it's really picking up. Sony is really hitting their stride, first with Ratchet and Clank and now with Uncharted 4.

Give the game a try when you're in the mood for some last-gen style shooter/platformer stuff. It's a great throwback. And in no way does this deserve the label of a "rehash" or "remaster." This is a new game.

It placed #2 in last month's NPD, for those of you who don't follow the Sales thread. It was a very good showing, somewhere between 200K and 500K (nothing more specific than that). It did better than any previous R&C release. I'm sure the $40 price tag helped -- that was a good decision on their part. Priced right. Hopefully, this will encourage development of more games in this old style. Too bad the movie was mediocre -- if it was good, it might have helped drive sales even further. Oh well. I'm happy it did as well as it did.

I'm not sure how many hours it took me to play through, but it was a full month on the calendar. I couldn't see myself going through the game and breaking all those crates again, so I traded it in. I'm not a completionist player, so I left a lot on the table (e.g., Ryno, lots of gold bolts, etc.). It provided a full month of fun for me, though, so I'm very satisfied. Great game.

I could be wrong Andy but if my memory serves me correctly past versions of R&C were always value priced at $39.99. It would just go to show that this version has done fantastic compared to previous releases. I haven't played all versions but I think this version will go down as the best (so far)...and not just because of it's graphical advantages.

I think the PS3 Ratchet & Clank games might have been $40 at launch but the PS2 games? I'm not sure but either way it's a successful franchise and the kind of game people need to support if they want different games. It's great to see it doing so well.

I did some checking and my memory did serve me correct (this time), original MSRP for the PS2 R&C games were $39.99. That makes the newest offering an even better value if you adjust the past games for inflation ($40 in 2003 is equal to $52 today).
