Reports of PS4 hardware issues.

I thought I had a defected one but it turns out the console just doesn't like my HDMI switch, quite disappointing actually I've been changing my setup sorted wires ext for the past hour now I have absolutely no will to play the damn thing, I don't even want to look at it until tomorrow.

I prefer the old UI for the record.

110 single stars and counting already...

Out of that count - I spot counted only the "Verified Amazon Purchase" on each of the reviews... 96 out of 110 - though there was one "troll test"... :)

so 96 out of 305 customer reviews so far with PSBLOD - or BLOD for short..

Either way - not a good start - certainly hope Sony resolves all of these quickly for those affected....

That's a good point, the "Verified Amazon Purchase." Unless there's a way of faking that, it suggests these are all (or mostly) genuine reports. "Only" 114 of them at the moment -- not many in the vast scheme of things, certainly not many compared to how many amazon must have shipped -- but the troubling part is that they are only marginally outnumbered by the positive reports.

If you were to make an optimistic spin, you'd say the guys who are not having problems are not posting reviews, it is only the people who are having units fail that have nothing to do except file a negative review, while the ones whose systems are working are just enjoying their systems and don't feel a need to write a review so quickly.

But I don't know. You could interpret it in different ways (e.g., you get a very negative spin by just looking at the straight numbers, which gives you a failure/problem rate of about 30%).

I would definitely think that someone who has a functional system would be far less likely to leave a review than someone who has an error, so while the numbers are definitely negative metrics at this point, it's still way too early to draw conclusions other than it sucks for the people who have had failures. Personally, I actually think it's preferable to have the consoles fail out early rather than the RROD where the consoles were still defective but you didn't know if you had a bad one or not until it finally gave out.

From what I've read on numerous message boards, the vast majority of defective units wete sold from amazon and produced in August. Thankfully mine is from Future Shop and made in September. Works great. *knock on wood

Yes it sucks there are defective units, even though it's a normal part of all mass produced electronics. Hopefully they have a warehouse full of replacement systems for defect exchanges.

Firmware issues are still murky, but seem to be recoverable by booting into recovery mode and reinstalling from a USB key.

I'm hearing there's some software that crashes/acts buggy when you pause it back to the XMB. Should get patched eventually.

I don't see it on my TV at all unless I'm a 18 inches from TV screen. I see it on my bezel where I sit from my TV which is about 5ft in a folding chair. That forcing myself to see it since the bezel of my TV isn't lined up to my controllers line of site.

I concur. I have my main gaming TV in my room and it's about 3 feet away from the edge of my bed. Even sitting on the edge, I didn't have any glare at all.

I got a one year extended warranty. Kind of wished that I would have paid the extra $20 for an extra year though.

Thankfully I've had no problems at all.

Sony set the bar rather high for themselves, this time around. Much of the software/firmware issues should be resolved within 72hrs. Just be patient, and don't lose faith. You're just going to have to wait for Greatness a little longer, that's all.

It is kind of funny though that the bulk of the reviews are either 1 star or 5 star lol, I would have expected more of a better distribution.

I was just at a Gamestop and a dude was exchanging his busted PS4 for a new one. He said after 30 minutes of playing a game, the console just shut down and wouldn't stay on.

The Gamestop manager gave the dude a console that was meant for a pre-order that hadn't been picked up yet.

Only one person on my Twitter feed has a bricked console.

Edit: Make that two people I personally know that have a bricked console.

I'm more interested in the disparity of complaints I'm seeing, different problems going around instead of just 1 or 2 main things. Usually in the beginning there should only be a single problem until others arise over time.

It hasn't even been 24hours.

Sucks for the guy that isn't going to get his pre-order

I don't trust a lot of the stuff I see on the net. Xbox only fanboys have a lot of time to wait around so why not post negativity about the competition? Just look at this thread all I see is the usual fanboys posting, and all the legitimate ppl that said they were picking up a PS4 saying how theirs work fine. Not saying ppl don't have any problems but not to points a lot of ppl here are making it out to be. You have ppl posting links from Amazon with only a 149 negatives which some are fake, but fail to realize amazon sold thousands of PS4s not a 149. Now lets look at your IGN poll. It was posted only 9hrs ago and how many trolls do you think voted on it? Most PS4 users won't vote anyways because they are to busy playing Knack...lolz.

All this same crap will happen with the X1 and with Sony fanboys leaving negative reviews and making up crap all over the internet. Some of it will be true and some will be fake. All consumer electronics have their problems especially when heat and suicidal workers are involved. People just need to stop taking this console war s*** so serious and just think about gaming and having fun.

How do you know that it was someone's pre-order?

That's bco of the "Works / Works Not" thing. :D
But it looks like the ones with bad HDMI solder are "manufactured in Hogfarting Yantai China - September 2013"
The units made with cheap slave labours :txbmad:

His next post:
Yep. Manager said, "Now I'm minus one pre-order. I have to call around to see if I can get another one, or hope the guy runs out of money to pay for his pre-order balance."

Thanks Z A C K

"The guy"? He's down one pre-order.. so he needs at least one person not to pick theirs up.

r******d thing to do either way, and weird way to describe it.
