Ryse: Son of Rome announced for PC

Yup. MS needs to lock down more first party exclusives so it remains a full exclusive instead of porting to PC.

More exclusives are great but that's never been Microsoft's approach. They support and market what they know will sell and put their resources into other areas. They don't like to put all of their eggs in one basket. Sony just throws money at developers and hopes they make a game that sticks. I think Microsoft will be fine as long as they continue to offer the best overall experience, which they have with the Xbox One.

Which exactly is why I said the PS4 would be more complementary. As you say, MS tries to cater to both platforms... the Xbox and PC. So if you have the PC/PS4, it would be the best of both worlds since the big Sony exclusives almost never come to the PC while some Xbox ones do. Of course if you have absolutely zero interest in any of Sony's exclusives or just a big Xbox fan, then you go for the X1.
Right, we covered this...and we agreed to disagree ;)

What's this about additional funding for Crytek? I thought they were already working on a Ryse sequel based in medieval England?

I know we have a Ryse thread already, but I felt these system requirements needed a thread all their own.
Observe:

The Xbox One's undeniable graphical showcase back at launch, Ryse: Son of Romeis heading to PC and promising to look better than ever. We know that lot at Crytek are capable of creating some of the best looking games of all time, and Ryse: Son of Rome looks to be no different. Crytek promise Ryse will push PC hardware to its absolute limits, as players don their warrior garb and set foot in the bloody drama of Ancient Rome.

Leveraging the power of the CryEngine and the latest high-end PC gaming technology, players will step foot into intense gladiatorial arenas and travel the world in a cinematic campaign against the bloodthirsty barbarian hordes. Don't be too hasty to grab your sword and head into battle though, because you'll need a PC capable of playing Crytek's latest graphical wonder, so read on to check out the official Ryse: Son of Rome system requirements.

Most PC gamers (or at least those that know about hardware) already knew the game would require a beast rig to run so these (minimum) requirements kind of come as no shock. However, the recommended requirements are pretty steep.

Ryse: Son Of Rome Minimum System Requirements
  • OS: Windows Vista 64-bit SP1
  • CPU: Intel Pentium Dual-Core E6300 2.8 GHz or Athlon II X2 260 3.2 GHz
  • RAM: 4GB System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 1024MB Graphics Memory
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GT 430 or AMD Radeon HD 4650
  • DX: DirectX 11
  • HDD: 26 GB Free Hard Drive Space
  • Audio: DirectX Compatible Sound Card
Ryse: Son Of Rome Recommended System Requirements
  • OS: Windows 7 64-bit
  • CPU: Intel Quad Core i5-2500S 2.7 GHz or AMD FX-8120 Eight-Core 3.1 GHz
  • RAM: 8 GB System Memory
  • GPU RAM: 4 GB Graphics Memory
  • GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 690 or AMD Radeon HD 7990

Linky...

What do you think of the requirements? Looks like the recommend are for running the game in 4k. Or at least that is what I believe.
Better start upgrading if you want to run this baby with all the bells and whistles.
What say you? Going to upgrade your rig for Ryse? :hehe:

A Radeon HD 4650 for running 4K?? Surely you jest! 4K is too beastly! Oh wait, a 690GTX? That makes more sense. A 690GTX should overkill it.

Steep, but those specs are recommended for 4K. I am not on the 4K wagon yet until we get some really powerful GPUs down the road. If the minimum specs are just that, the game might not just be a mere port, which is good. I'm going to assume the game comes with many graphics options for scalability.

They are actually very mild specs. This is not melting any rigs. Sure, if you wanna run 4K then you need a beeffy GPU, but I bet mid range PC's will run this very nicely at 1080P as long as you hit that Ram requirement.

I know. I was trying to be sensational.
Mid range rigs should do just fine.

It is pretty funny how good this game looks with these kind of specs compared to what we have in general on PC with similar specs. Does that extra RAM really account for the upgrade ? crazy stuff.

Dat optimization.
Seriously though, the Cryengine was made to leverage PC hardware to begin with so it really doesn't surprise me at all that they can get very good results with meager hardware.
Xb1 has pretty much a 7770 in it and look what they were able to accomplish.

670FTW so should be able to make it look pretty good. By the time I get to it though I should have updated my CPU at least as well.

The recommended makes no sense, 4GB VRAM but neither of the recommended cards come with 4GB, the 690 is a 2GB card and the 7990 is a 3GB card.

Sounds ridiculous when you can just buy an Xbox One for $400 and run Ryse at optimal performance already. I'll pass on the PC version.

690GTX is a 2GBx2 card.

7990 is a 3GBx2 card.

Since they're dual GPU on a PCI board; each GPU needs their own pool of memory to store part of the frame that they draw.

The recommended makes sense, since if you buy either of those cards they're advertised as 4GB/6GB respectively.

I already knew that, but it still doesn't really make sense. If the game requires more than 2gb of VRAM you will be screwed on gtx 690, which is a shame and the reason I got rid of my sli 770s, I had the horsepower just not the VRAM.

What you consider optimal performance and what we call optimal performance are two different things.

Crytek have updated their system requirements to better show what is required for non 4k gameplay. As some have said, a Mid tier PC is all that is really needed...hell those GPU's are perhaps lower than mid tier.

Minimum:

  • CPU: Dual core with HyperThreading technology or quad core CPU
  • Examples: Intel Core i3 2.8 GHz (3220T) or AMD Phenom II X4 3.2 GHz (945)
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • GPU: DirectX 11 graphics card with 1 GB video RAM
  • Examples: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 or AMD Radeon HD 7770
  • OS: 64 bit Windows (Vista, 7,
  • HD: 26GB
Recommended:

  • CPU: Quad Core or Six Core CPU
  • Examples: Intel Core i5 3.3 GHz (2500k) or AMD FX-6350 3.9 GHz
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • GPU: DirectX 11 graphics card with 2 GB video RAM
  • Examples: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660Ti or AMD Radeon 260x or 7850
  • OS: 64 bit Windows (Vista, 7,
  • HD: 26GB
Recommended for 4k gameplay:

  • CPU: Quad Core or Eight Core CPU
  • Examples: Intel Core i7 3.5 GHz (2700k) or AMD FX-8350 4.0 GHz
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • GPU: DirectX 11 graphics card with 4 GB video RAM
  • Examples: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780/ Titan or AMD Radeon 290x
  • OS: 64 bit Windows (Vista, 7,
  • HD: 26GB

The Radeon 7770 is about X1 spec. Makes sense.

Not really. Most pc gamers that tend to play these kind of games already have a pc that exceeds the recommended specs.

Sounds ridiculous for me to drop $400 on an XB1 when I've had a pc longer than next gen consoles have been around that'll run Ryse at true optimal performance on pc with visuals surpassing the console version. I'll pass on the console version.

Sure, if you like missing out on the best exclusives this industry has to offer. Have fun with that.

Well, for starters....I'll be passing on the game period, but if I was interested....the game is coming on pc....I wouldn't be missing anything.
