Sales Comparisons v. 1.1

Was September an unusually good month for X1 sales, then? If I could see the data from the previous four months, plus #'s of weeks used to calculate each, I could come up with a better baseline than September. I'm not compulsive enough to keep track of those numbers myself, though (almost, but not quite).

It was pretty good. Nowhere as good as the juggernaut that is the PS4 though. X1 sales weren't that good in the summer, they had no exclusive games released.

538k for PS4, 284k for X1.

I like the idea of a rotating lead in sales every generation. I think it helps starve off complacency. Sony had a rough patch, let them enjoy some breather room. :). My one worry is Nintendo. I would hope that they could sell more then the cube. The Wii u has really come into it's own this year, and yes I've said it Bayonnetta rocks!

They have been desperate so far,If they lose Nov/Dec then yes... They will be in real trouble and panick IMO.

Phil Spencer even said this himself.
While I think MS has a really good chance of winning at least one of those months, it's not a lock. I don't think that they would be in any real trouble though unless the system just doesn't sell well, which it will. Winning one month is not as life and death as it is to some people on forums.

Really, Phil Spencer said that... Phil Spencer flat out said that their best selling console would in trouble and MS should panic. Link, please.

Xbox One's biggest problem is not PS4 but the 360. That console is just so damn good most of the people I know are quite happy with it and there is no clear incentive to move. I think in 2015 we should see a transition of current 360 owners to the One.

There are quite a few links to that statement on here already, but ok sure i'll look for it

Oh and for clearence HE said they would be in trouble the panick was IMO

I wonder what these each console has invested after marketing, R&D, shipping, and obviously parts, everything. That would be an interesting number.

PS4 13.5 mil shipped vs Xbox One 10 mil shipped

Doesn't sound like panic mode to me.

That's 13.5 million sold through (estimated) for the PS4 as of September 30th. The 10 million shipped for X1 was announced a few days ago.

Actually...that'll be 10 million shipped "shortly"......fill the shelves for the holidays.

shipped vs sold to consumers is irrelevant, Sony's financial statement shows 3.3 mil shipped to retailers that brings t

The latest figures from Sony states 3.3 million shipped from July to September, using this figure we arrive at 13.5 million, so not all sold to consumers. In any case its immaterial, the gap in actual consoles out at retails isn't so huge.

Wouldn't it be more logical to add the SO bundle sales into October's NPD instead of November's? If they did really well, I'm not sure how PS4 beat it still unless PS4's just a beast.

Can't say for sure because we don't have any information on the split for the Sunset Overdrive bundle sales before the price drop (and the sales after the price drop). I will say though that the bundle would be doing very well to this day if MS made more of them. They are basically sold out so I'm sure MS has a good estimated number of how many were sold when the end of the month comes (the number won't be too far off from how many they made).

Even if that's the case. The 13.5 million shipped is until September. They haven't announced how much they're going to ship through the holidays while MS expects to ship 10 million shortly in preparation for and through the holidays. The difference here is Sony has already shipped that amount while MS is preparing to ship their own amount.

So it looks like MS themselves did not have much high hopes for this bundle since the bundle sold out so quick. Looking at the numbers (if true), it doesn't look like there are a lot of them anyways.

Yeah, there aren't that many of them. Think it was a pretty big mistake on MS' part because the bundle would have done pretty well for this whole Holiday season based on the demand.

Dude MS f***ed up bad I was a 360 owner owned ps3 for only on Playstation games. Switched to PS4 this gen MS pissed off a lot of former 360 owners and they made the switch. This BS About people not upgrading cause 360 is still great is BS.

If someone wants a next gen system they're not going to wait cause last gen is still around.

I don't make any money on these things sitting on shelves or in homes. So who cares?

They got to spin it, just like PR.

What is true though is that MS doesn't care whether it's sold through or in. They only care about retailers paying them for the consoles to get to the stores.
