Sales Comparisons v. 1.9

It may seem that way to the layman, but that's not the case... ;-)
Exactly. Price changes typically take months of planning and coordinating with retailers. I'll take a guess that the decision to extend the $350 price (assuming it wasn't always the plan from the beginning) was finalized with retailers sometime in November at the latest with implementation in Jan. I'm just guessing here based on what my industries have always done with price changes.

It's water under the bridge. Best to let it go and focus on the coronation of the Xbox One in December. But yeah, it was Qbert's usual schtick of PC/PS4 rules the roost and playing the victim card over nothing. Jumping to conclusions with not much to go on other than emotion. You know me, i was just entertaining myself. No need to get offended.
I guessed his motive correct. That sure was hard. lol

It's amazing how after all these years, some people still don't understand your posting style.

When Xbox wins a month, the focus changes from NPD to Worldwide sales..... even though there is no official source for global sales. lol

Both NPD and worldwide sales have been discussed in previous sales threads. It's just when PS4 wins, no pro-Xbox fans post. ;)

Official source is 18.5 million worldwide... Sony has been giving us constant updates on their sold through #'s throughout the year. MS on the other hand... yeah they have to work on that. We have nothing besides their shipped numbers.

Interesting to see in Dec and complete 2014 which version of a game sold more - X1 or PS4. PS4 in the US has had a large unit base lead all year (over a million at its peak), yet some games sold more on X1 in 2014.

For Dec, the X1 version outsold the PS4 game for every game in the top 10, except FC4?!?!

I show up and give Sony their props when they put a licking on Microsoft. So i don't want to hear any of that. The Xbox One has more than likely sold at least 12 million worldwide right now. The difference is Microsoft doesn't feel the need to brag every time they hit a milestone. They already did that last gen when the 360 was dusting the PS3 every month. Now all of a sudden Sony can't stay quiet. They're poor winners. Act like you've been there before.

I need to hear straight from the horse's mouth unfortunately, TD. Your optimism is noted though.

They haven't been bragging, just continuing to give us those sold through #'s because they know MS aren't going to do it so they're going to ride on them until they do.

So MS took December? Interesting. With the permanent price drop, that may continue for a while.

It'll happen as long as Sony allows it to happen. The Xbox One can't compete with the PS4 on equal footing. Now Sony just needs to look at all the information they've acquired over the past few months and decide if market share (in N. America only) or profits are priority one right now.

well inSony's defense, at least they do have something to brag about because its certainly never going to be about their quarterly earnings. Lol

With the December NPDs almost upon us, here are the US sales for 2014 up to November.

Seems like the Xbox One sold around 250K more than the PS4 this month.

That (if true) would make the overall gap around 250K also.

It's very possible for the Xbox One to surpass the PS4's userbase in America this year; A 250K gap is very small.

250k would be less than I would have expected. Won't be seeing a price drop anytime soon if that is the case.

Microsoft did it with the 360 when they were winning and now Sony is doing it with the PS4? Companies brag when they have things to brag about. Companies stay quiet when they have nothing to brag about.

It's not looking great for MS in terms of worldwide sales right now. Sony announced 18.5+ million a few weeks back. If MS doesn't counter soon, it's a given that they're losing more and more market share as time progresses.

f***ing Minecraft.

On 360, STILL killing it.

Also, of note. Gamers as a whole are depressingly predictable. You could take away the sequel indicators in that list and this could be any year ever.

MS putting the pressure on Sony which can only mean good things for gamer's.

I doubt Sony is going to price drop PS4. They have no need to, PS4 is in a much better place than XBO is. While their lead contracts in the US, it expands everywhere else. I don't think Sony cares enough about these sales to change what they're doing. Sony has always gone by their own playbook regardless of what the competition is doing.

If MS can make meaningful gains worldwide, then we'll see Sony react. But as long as the gap continues to grow, unfortunately Sony will continue on the path they're on because they know it's going to take more than this for XBO to overthrow PS4 sales. Or to put it in perspective, 360 has a 22m lead in the US over PS3 and 3m lead in the UK and they're tied.

If MS can turn XBO around in EU that'd help push Sony to react, because the XBO is absolutely dead outside of UK.

Xbox One was the Best Selling Console for December -- NPD

Ahead of the NPD's Microsoft lets everyone know that they came out as number one in overall sales over PS4 and Wii U for a second consecutive month.

Xbox One was number one back in November, and it looks like they did it again for December. We'll be getting sales data for the US from the NPD later today, but Microsoft revealed that they came out number one in console sales in the US once again in a press release today.

The Xbox One is performing even better than the Xbox 360 during the same period, as Microsoft wrote in a press release, "Weekly average sales during these months outpaced Xbox 360 by 50 percent at the same point in its lifecycle." However, the Xbox 360 hit its own milestone by becoming "the best-selling seventh generation console of all time in the U.S."

In addition to having the number one console, Microsoft also trumpeted their success on the software front, writing, "Xbox One sold more games throughout November and December in the U.S. than any other current-generation platform."

Following the system's continued success, Microsoft also announced that the Xbox One will return to its previous $350 price starting tomorrow.

The NPD Group’s Liam Callahan also noted in a separate update that, "Bundles were a major driver of hardware sales this December compared to last with 71 percent of hardware unit sales stemming from Bundles including software, which compares to 32 percent of hardware sales last December."

While we don't have hardware numbers for 2014 in total, Sony's PS4 is likely still on top overall. Sony has sold 18.5 million PlayStation 4 units worldwide. The last hard number from Xbox came back in November when Microsoft announced that it had shipped 10 million units.

The NPD Group also revealed the ten best-selling games for the 2014, which includes games from almost every platform. But be sure to stay tuned next week as well when Microsoft unveils their plans for Windows 10 on January 21.

Considering all the mony Sony threw at Destiny, very surprised to see it sell better on Xbox.

It's not all that surprising when you think about it. Bungie being an Xbox developer for so long and Destiny being the closest thing to a next gen Halo right now. Xbox fans were ready for that game. It sold itself without any marketing for the X1 version. Looking at that chart it looks like the Xbox One version of multiplats just sell more in general. Only Far Cry 4 sold better on the PS4? I guess the Xbox One has the better attach rate. All those consoles sold and Sony is still struggling to take back market share. Makes you wonder how many people bought a PS4 and then realized they really wanted an Xbox One and are now buying all their games for the X1. Sounds like a lot of people made the switch.

Makes sense but I'm still pretty shocked considering the ps4 only marketing and bundle.
