What is the purpose of chests? Do you use them to buy in game items? Level up via XP?

They are currently the only way I've found to get gold to buy stuff like clothing, items. Also they do level level you up with the map vendor.

There's a cursed chest that cries tears. So keep an eye on that one if you bring it to your ship or it will flood it.

That's pretty crazy. I wonder if the matchmaking wasn't working correctly. It seems the higher level I've gotten with the gold traders, the more people I see. When I first started, I would rarely see other ships. Now that I'm rank 15, I can always count on seeing at least on ship on the horizon, if not more.

I'm almost level 11 right now. But it shouldn't make any difference.

Seems like a game best suited with friends. Sadly, I don't have many that venture out of the top IPs.

Who knows what the final game will have, but watching videos the game's premise is:

- Explore small islands, find chests
- Fight skeletons
- Fight against other boats (MP), and sink their ships, kill them and steal their chests
- Cash in chests at small stores and get gold or more treasure maps

Is there anything else in the game? Most of these videos show empty seas and repetitive looking small islands.

The ship battles look fun, but the rest of game looks pretty bland. Awesome looking water effects though.

Surely they'll expand it over the years.
Gamers have short attention spans. If they haven't filed out the game within a few months of launch people will move on to something else. And once you lose your launch momentum and people leave, it's very hard to get them back.

Siege proves otherwise, could be more games as well.

Overwatch maybe?

That is pretty much it. Just fetch quest after fetch quest. They did say there would be beasts added to the world, like a kraken.

The economy system is silly, you do all these fetch quest to amass gold which you spend on cosmetics that you can't even see. I think ship cosmetics will be a thing at launch, but still a rather bland economy system.

Similar thing with progression...what do you actually progress and what does that progression get you outside of gold and cosmetics you can't see?

Exploration doesn't seem to be a big part of the game.

Ship combat isn't balanced between the 3 ship types.

Griefing is going to be a massive problem.

It simply lacks depth and diversity.

Its basically what Destiny was meant to be.

There is definitely more. Check this progression trailer.

Not bad for a beta then.
LOL. It isn't a compliment.

It is a shame really, SOT is a cool concept with good boating and decent sea combat, but the execution of the stuff you do is the most bland and uninteresting way possible. The quest structure is boring and tedious. The world or characters whom loot you plunder seemingly have no lore.

The world also seems extremely tame.

You know it’s a real beta, right? This is meant to test the servers and make sure everything is working. Tip of the iceberg for content.

They have yet to show anything that implies depth or diversity, though. It has been the same stuff we have seen from announcement to Alpha To Beta.

Their progression trailer shows nothing that adds depth or even anything worth progressing to. We know there are only 3 vendors and we know their quest set up is the same and just swap chests for skulls or livestock.

None of the articles, videos, or comments I have seen about this game show it to be anything different than the beta.

If you have videos showing this stuff then please post them, I would love to see them and see something to make this a day one buy.

I think a lot of people miss this fact. Outside of the specific mission set up for this particular experience, this is literally the same beta I was playing like or four months ago. This is actually a legitimate test server beta. There are a lot of Game systems that weren't shown off as I'm guessing they want there to be new stuff for people to see when they actually buy the game.

This is a small portion of the game. I mean, the Beta is still just 7.4 GB. I would imagine that the full game will be a lot more than that. I mean, it'll probably still be fetch quests, but we know that some of those will be finding and catching animals, as well as other mission types. Personally, I'm just hoping to get a lot more out of the NPCs and to get some port towns that feel "alive".

Some of the things they have discovered while data mining:

I’m hoping to see more depth as well but my point is the beta isn’t supposed to reveal all that. If the game is shallow on release, by all means blast away.

Ironically the thing most people are worried about will be the thing easiest to implement. Gameplay, visual and controls...and getting it to work together in harmony is the hardest part.
