They seem to only be talking about their own games which doesn't say much as none of their new IPs have sold but its great news as it means Rare will live on.
Well, the way it's phrased ("fastest selling first-party new IP") suggests they're talking about all first-party new IPs, including Sony and Nintendo's. I assume they're including Gamepass downloads, which is kind of cheaty, but I guess those are sales in some sense.
I disagree on the risk/reward. It’s very risky taking on a skull fort and then getting your not insubstantial loot back to an output. Equally if you’ve got 5 or 6 skills or chests to transport there is a good element of risk.
The pirate v pirate combat has little risk if you aren’t defending a treasure haul though. That’s fine with me to.

Kind of funny considering you just argued that losing gold upon death wasn't a risk. Which is exactly what your post is.
And what reward exactly? The cosmetic crap that doesn't impact the game at all?
There is no element of risk because there is nothing meaningful or game impacting at risk.
I said I considered it a greifing mechanic more than a risk and that’s why I’m glad it’s not coming, so make that distinction.
I’ve also explained where I see the risk. if you don’t agree that’s fine.
They aren't including game pass in the fastest selling bit apparently. These are actual copies sold
It isn't like it has much competition.
And what are you risking exactly? Exactly.

This game should have been early access.
Off topic, but I was thinking about how cool a Star Wars game would be where you pilot a Millenium Falcon type of ship with 4 person crew.... Basically space pirating, similar to SoT, but planet to planet instead of island to island.Id love to see a Batman game with this kind of emergence.
Battleground and Fortnite. .

What you state there as you risking is a means to an end and not an end itself. Also, this loot and chests and skulls you state are nothing but gold. The end is exactly what I stated before, unimpactful and meaningless cosmetics. Which, technically, you are not risking as you aquire them over time and not with completing a voyage or turning in a specific item. So losing some cargo really doesn't matter at all.
But I want those cosmetics so it’s not meaningless to me. So yeah it’s a risk. Just because you don’t really care about them doesn’t mean everyone else thinks the same.
I do like this. There should be some very rare cosmetics that ate tied to a very specific chest. So if you got a gold chest of 1,000 grogs, you would know that when you took it back, you would get a Jolly Roger flag that you couldn't get anywhere else. Then if pirates board you they see this amazing chest that is actually rare and meaningful. They take it and sink your ship. Now you have an actual reason to go chase them down in hopes of getting that super rare chest, and it's rare reward, back. That is fine, you can care about them...but losing some cargo still isn't risking them. As I just said, those cosmetics you want aren't tied to a specific voyage or chest, etc. So you still get them anyway regardless of failure.
If the Jolly Roger sails were tied to a crying chest and that chest was rare then transporting that chest would add a risk element to your voyage, but the game doesn't work way.
And just to be clear, I am not saying all cosmetics should be tied to rare items in voyages.

Yeah, I mean the existing world is pretty deep, but I wasn't sure how much of this would be feasible. I was originally thinking that the "sloops" of the game would be like Tie fighters and X-wings, but then you'd be in allegiances. I'm not sure if that would be going down a different rabbit hole. I guess there could be three factions: Imperial, Rebel, and Renegade; with the Jedi/Sith being side-factions.Sounds like a great basis for an Open World Star Wars game. You can be a Jedi. Sith. Empire. Rebellion. Bounty hunter. Scoundrel. Hutt trader or Dug pod racer.
Oh my!
