Star Wars: The Last Jedi

I feel like the complaints are likely to be centered on

1. Rey's parents. I have no problem with her parents being unimportant but they should have just revealed that in the last movie instead of building up a mystery around it for 2 movies for no real reason.
2. Snoke's death. He is pretty much the Boba Fett of the new trilogy.
3. Luke. Mark Hamill was great but Luke hiding on an island waiting to die was ridiculous and his end is so unsatisfying.
4. The length. It had no reason to be 2 and half hours. Cut out the Finn and Rose side quest and nothing is lost.

1. I was let down too but what if Ben was lying to her?
2. Not sure I understand what the complaint is or how it compares to Boba Fett
3. I dig the Ben Kenobi parallels and think it fits perfectly with the obvious repeating vernaculars throughout
4. The only part that dragged for me was the ending but so did a few other in the nonology. I wish there was more but I felt well fed.

I'm thinking I shouldn't bother with this until I have nothing to watch. I didn't like the Force Awakens.

1. True. Rian Johnson has even said as much in that JJ Abrams could go that direction but as of now its a legit criticism as what we got is what Rian Johnson wants to be the case
2. It really doesn't I just wanted to throw that in. Much like Rey's backstory it seems like JJ Abrams was setting something up with Snoke and despite him being very powerful he dies quickly and without revealing anything really about. Some would argue we knew nothing about the Emperor but the situation is different now that we have so much backstory and because of that his existence just doesn't really add up. Of course that is something they can touch on in the next movie.
3. But it isn't what Obi Wan did. Obi Wan didn't give up and abandon his friends and family. Obi Wan went to watch over Luke. Luke just gave up and I guess the force ghosts of Yoda, Obi Wan, and Anakin just made no attempt out of talking him out of that. His death is similar but that doesnt make it good

While not perfect I thought it was great. In some ways it is what I always wanted to see in a Star Wars film. It goes places I wasn’t expecting and we get a glimpse at a much bigger picture in this universe that previous movies only hinted at. Honestly I’m not sure where they are going with this in the next and final episode to this trilogy. It could go anywhere from here.

I do think it’s funny a lot of people complained TFA was nothing more than a ANH knock off and now a lot of people complaining TLJ is not more like TFA and other Star Wars movies. I enjoyed both for different reasons.

Just got home from watching. Mind f***ing blown. It was so good!

Like I had so many theories over the last 2 years and the fact that I was wrong about eveything, makes me damn happy.

I can see why Disney is giving Rian his own trilogy. Dude killed it

Valid point. The two movies are kind of two completely opposite takes, but like I said, simpler is better. That is the only thing missing, imo. ESB was not a hit right away. Nostalgia had made better reviews, over time. RotJ (Episode VI) kind of sucked, imo. Only the prequels are much worse than that, imo. The new movies are better, but will we ever be happy?

Interesting. I disagree, but at the same time, I love that other people saw something more than I did... I really need to watch the movie again. I wanted to see so much more in it...

So I don’t spoil anything for those that haven’t seen it:

what blows my mind is the movie isn’t about hope even though that was the goal. The movie is about failure. Luke failing Ben and the rebels/resistance. Finn and rose failing. Poe failing as a leader. As Yoda said, the best teacher is failure. I think that’s what got me. It was so much failure and everybody coming to their acceptance of that failure and growing.

Felt more like a marvel film than star wars

That statement unto itself sounds completely ridiculous. Not sure what movie you watched but what I saw oozed Star Wars. Are you even a fan?

Watched every film multiple times including the original releases.

I loved the force awakens tbh. Gonna see this next week. Off to Hong Kong for Xmas so will see it over there.
How’s the fight scenes please guys? Hope there is some amazing light saber scenes....
You’re gonna be disappointed. No light saber on light saber battles.

Saw it last night. All I'll say (no spoilers) is that the first time I saw Force Awakens I didn't love it, but it grew on me as I saw it a 2nd time. I think this will be the same way. Really want to go back a 2nd time before I really evaluate it.

Saw it last night. I liked the movie overall, but there were definitely some problems going into the 2nd act.

Well.....here goes.

1. The question of Rey's parents. Like. What.The.Actual.f***.?? So apparently we are to believe that her parents were just some scrapper scum on Jakku that dumped her there. TFA made a HUGE deal about this. It was damn near a plot point for half the damn movie!

2. Snoke death. Probably the biggest waste of potential since Darth Maul. We literally see NO example of Snoke and his power and the brief scenes that we do see are absolutely wasted. No reason for the displays just fan service. Huge disappointment. Hell we don't even know where he came from. I hope he comes back in the next movie in some shape or form.

3. Luke. Luke Skywalker essentially being wasted for most of the movie. I get it he is sad about what he sees as the Jedi failure and the hypocrisy of it all, but GD stop being a little emo kid and train Rey. We didn't even get to see his power that he has accumulated since the end of RTJD and then he just fades away and becomes a force ghost. Disappointed to the extreme.

What I liked about the movie....

1. Character development was alot better than TFA. We actually see the motivations behind Kylo Ren's rebuttal of Luke, and even a glimpse into why Luke is the way he is.
Overall character development was a ton better.

....and another thing...

Benicio Del Toro's 'code breaker' character was completely pointless. FFS the entire adventure Finn and Rose have to the casino world is pointless.

anyone have an answer for this:
someone explain to me how the code breaker thief knew about the plan that resistance was leaving on small ships when finn and rose didnt??

I think Poe told Finn or it was overheard when they were communicating near the end. Other than that yea it would be a plot hole.

well all except for Snoke that is...

Just watched it. Loved it. Lots of call outs to Star Wars Rebels.

Random thoughts:

I figured they'd write Leia out (that space scene was a little eye-rolling), but they ended up killing Luke off?! Hopefully he comes back as a ghost. And this explains why Mark Hammil wasn't a fan of the script lol.

Roasted Porgs, Luke's grumpiness, BB droids up the wazoo, awesome dreadnaught bombing scene, Leia, capital ship strategy, seeing how sith/jedi read peoples' future/minds (it's more about the feeling than an actual image), Yoda's lightning, Yoda's wisdom, Rey & Kylo wrecking the red guards, jedi projection, & so much more...

Also, so many call outs to Star Wars Rebels! Friendly & helpful critters (Lothal animals/crystal wolves), hero droid that curses, wears a disguise, kicks Stormtrooper butt, and controls walkers (Chopper/BB-, evil/neutral dudes who play both sides (Hondo/benicio del toro), to name a few.

I enjoyed the move but the more I pick it apart it starts to get a bit disappointing.

Some thoughts.

The resistance story lines feel superfluous. I like the characters but it just felt like they accomplished nothing and was a bit of a waste. I know the theme was failure but it they made them look incompetent. Which... actually that is the real theme of this move; Incompetence.

Phasma is the most useless character right next to Boba Fett. I thought we would get more Phasma not less.

Hux was turned into a punching bag, like the First Order's Jar Jar.

It seemed needles to introduce Holdo and DJ.

Mark Hamill was great and without him this movie would have sucked.

Not sure I like what they did with Luke's character though.

Rey/Luke and Kylo scenes were my favorite parts of the movie.

I don't think Snoke is dead.

No lightsaber duels sucks.

Wow i sound pretty down on the movie.

I think the main quirky thing about this movie is how the Star Destroyers, Hux, and Snoke are just f***ing chill following the Rebel Cruiser while Finn has time to leave to another planet who knows where. Are you kidding me? This couldn't catchup? Or do a short light speed jump ahead.

Went and saw it last night unexpectedly. It was better than expected. A couple of wtf moments, but I was entertained unlike the TFA. I would give it a 7.5. I give TFA a 5.
