Pre-orders are still available, and it was supposed to have a limited release, so that can't be a good sign.

Zelda is the only reason to get it, but when Mario and MK8 are released, that might just push me to pick one up. It's just a matter of how long I want to wait to play Zelda.

I doubt I can wait that long so I might pick up a refurb Wii U from the Nintendo store or eNay in the meantime and just sell it later on...that way it's like an extended system rental.

Currently $200... not bad for factory refurb.

I pre-ordered just to do it. I'm on the fence and figure I can cancel anytime. I'm interested in Zelda, but could wait.
I like the idea of playing on TV and switching to tablet. It's novel. I don't care about any of the motion crap. I just want to play some Nintendo games.

That's MUCH money for a paper weight console
(pretty dumb to do imo)

Only thing I've seen about it being 1080p was IGN who admitted their mistake

Or it's $100 cheaper to play the same Zelda game. Plus you get a warranty as well instead of taking chances on pre-owned from a private entity.

If you don't understand that, I'll break out the sock puppets and explain it much, much slower next time.

I'm still open to a Switch at some point, but right now all I see it as is paying an extra $100 to play Zelda. When more games drop it'll be a different story, especially if they can drop the price quickly. I'm betting a price drop by the holiday.

So it's not.

And yes it was true what I said which was IGN was the only place I had seen report it

It's been confirmed the build on show is 900p

Some guy not part of the DF team was told by someone on the floor who isn't apart of Nintendo...

"BY JOSE OTERO IGN Update: This story was edited to fix an error in our original reporting. Zelda: Breath of the Wild was not confirmed at 1080p. We apologize for the error."

Anyways that's for a different topic and nothing wrong with 900p

We'll see.

Val despises any game less than 1080p, so let's see if he magically changes tune with Zelda.

Just posted the DF video in the zelda topic so we can discuss it there and yes it's 900p.

But let's now keep it out of this topic.

I was about to post that. It looks like 720p/30fps handheld and 900p/30fps. I think that's fine, but for some people that makes it garbage, apparently.

Might as well change their votes to no thank you!

So aside from launch title Zelda (which also releases on Wii U anyway), and the fact the system can be played on the go like a tablet with mini joy cons for party play, is there anything else good about the system?

- Price of system $300 US... comes with system, joy con, basic middle grip, dock, but no pack in game
- Price of accessories $70+ (Pro is $70, a fully functional joy con with rechargrable middle grip is $110, extra dock $90)
- Launch games 5
- Games coming out later on, both first and third party support (lacking third party games)
- Online functionality, monthly free game, and fees
- Battery life of controller "Zelda has about 3 hours, but depends on the game" according to their site
- No backwards compatibility with Wii U physical games (not sure about digital downloads, but doubtful)
- No backwards compatibility with Wii U controllers

Rumors
- Party chat and invites is done by smartphone app and not the usual system UI/OS method like every other system
- FIFA is based on 360/PS3 games
- Skyrim is based on 360/PS3 games, and not the special edition

To me, looking at the above bullet points, I've got a solid D. The only thing that keeps it from an F is the fact year one has key first party games like Zelda, Mario, Splatoon and MK.... and that assumes all these games don't get delayed such as Mario's vague "holiday 2017" release date.

I see the system selling well the first bunch of months due to it being the new tech and Zelda, but after that it'll be a sliding slope down.

I adore the fact that Nintendo is willing to do something different to the others.

...But I hate the differences they've chosen to go with.

And what the slut?! The controllers only stay charged for 3 hours!?

I think I like it as an overall product and if it were cheaper by a lot, I'd buy it..it just has a few hang-ups:

-One decent game at launch... well, 5 games total (is this the lowest ever?), but that's pretty sad. They essentially took a year off, delayed Zelda and still only muster one game.

-Price. I get that it's got decent power for it's form factor if you're looking at it as a portable that can be docked for bonus power. It's hard to look past the price though. I paid less than that for my PS4 Pro FWIW and I was only going to buy it if I could get it at that price... and that thing is a beast, now looking at the price of the Switch you can imagine how that sways on the value and once again, there is literally one game worth mentioning at the moment.

-Online Fee. Okay, it's slightly hypocritical since I pay for XBLG. I don't have PSN, mainly because Sony makes zero must have online games worth playing and I get my MP fix on Xbox since they have exclusives that I do play online. For Switch... well, is it even launching with any online games? Once Splatoon 2 launches, that makes one game worth playing online. Mario Kart 8 after that.. Point being, Nintendo isn't really known for banging out online games, why they think they can provide a service worth paying for when they don't even know how to implement voice chat or a basic account system in 2017 is beyond me. I'm not going to pay a yearly sub to play two games.

There's a lot to like about it though, but I feel like by the time they actually drop it down to a price that I would pay, they might be pumping out their next console.

In the meantime, the odds that I don't just buy the Wii U version of Zelda, rip it to my computer and play it at 4k on an emulator and end up skipping the Switch console altogether is a very likely scenario.

tldr; price sucks, no games, online fee wut

And MK8 is basically a remaster, correct? Or 'Enhanced.' Not a totally new game..?

Yep.

Don't get me wrong, looks like fun, but not a compelling reason to pay for a subscription IMO. The whole voice chat on my cellphone angle is just a whole 'nother bag of wut that I won't even bother getting into.

Unless it's like $20 a year or something, I don't see how Nintendo can make a worthwhile service to justify a higher price.

What doesn't make sense about the online fees isn't that they are charging for it.... MS an Sony do. And it doesn't matter that legacy Ninty system have no fee either.

It's that Ninty systems have traditionally gimped online functionality and it's not like Ninty systems are known for huge online MP gaming like MS/Sony with the million shooters, full set of EA Sports, GTA etc.... Its' really down to Splatoon and MK as probably the two key online games for Switch any time soon.

And the rumour is that party invites is done by smartphone Switch app and not through the system UI.

So to charge money for it is a farce. And I highly doubt any online subscription will be only $10 or $20. It'll probably be comparable to the other console makers, although I see Ninty charging $40 or it, and not $60 like MS/Sony. We'll see.

But who knows, maybe Ninty will have a great online ecosystem like MS/Sony and tons of third party games that push online gaming....... lol.

I'm buying one at launch. But I already know that a revised version with better batteries will come in a year or two.

I've kind of missed my Wii U since giving it to the little ones. I look at Switch as more or less a portable Wii U/ Super charged DS.

I hope Nintendo gives me a ton of 2D goodness in the coming years.

As long as your expectations are tempered, and you can accept the fact a second controller is $70 for Pro and $110 for a second fully featured joy con, and online fees are coming down the line, you should be fine.

- Expect the usual quality first party Ninty games (if you enjoy Nintry's franchises)
- Don't expect lots of quantity or latest quality third party games. Expect a small smattering of them at last gen quality
- To get the most out of it, use it as on the go gaming, or do all that "bring it to a party" stuff. If you're just going to have it docked the whole time, it defeats the purpose of it. In that case, might as well just get your Wii U back. Zelda is coming out for it, and Switch's MK and Splatoon are supposed to be more like remasters than full fledged sequels... it's MK 8 Deluxe after all. You would miss Super Mario Odyssey though

Maybe $30-40 would be more realistic than the $20 I suggested. Either way, I'd like to see them at least deliver up to 360 (maybe late PS3 at minimum) standards of online system/account systems before I'd even bother.

I didn't hear about that party invite thing, but that's just more weird to pile onto of a mountain of weird.

Pre-ordered on Amazon the moment I could. Also got my BOTW pre-order in. Just waiting on Super Bomberman R to pop up.
