Russian bots are rallying behind embattled Fox News host Laura Ingraham as advertisers dump her show

  • Russia-linked Twitter accounts are rallying in support of Fox News host Laura Ingraham after she drew scorn for mocking Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg's grades on Twitter.
  • According to one website that tracks Russian propaganda on Twitter in near-real time, the hashtag #istandwithlaura saw a 2800% jump in 48 hours.
  • Another website that monitors Russia's disinformation campaign found that @ingrahamangle, @davidhogg11, and @foxnews were among the top six Twitter handles that Russia-linked accounts have tweeted at in the last 24 hours.
  • Companies have pulled their ads from her show, and& Ingraham announced this weekend she will take a "pre-planned vacation" amid the exodus.

Nothing to see here. Nothing at all.

John Oliver is brilliant. I honestly stay away from most of the political/comedy stuff now but Oliver is fantastic.

On another note, Trump is good for the market at least, right?

I wonder if they were stupid enough to put the instructions to short Amazon in emails. It's sad that I don't automatically assume they wouldn't do that because they know insider trading is illegal.

Ethan Couch, ‘Affluenza Teen’ Who Killed 4 While Driving Drunk, Is Freed
Ethan Couch, whose trial for killing four people while driving drunk sparked widespread conversations about the privilege of being raised wealthy, was released from a Texas jail on Monday after nearly two years.

Mr. Couch, 20, became known as the “affluenza teen” after a psychologist suggested during his trial that growing up with money might have left him with psychological afflictions, too rich to tell right from wrong. He attracted further attention when he and his mother, Tonya Couch, fled to Mexico in an effort to evade possible jail time.

He served his 720-day sentence in a jail in Tarrant County, and was freed about a week before his 21st birthday.

Nah white/rich privilege doesn't exist.

I really need to watch the show more. I enjoy it but for some reason rarely watch it.
I watch it religiously. However, its gotten more and more depressing. Not because of the delivery (which is funny)but because the subjects have become increasingly more dire.

Agree. One of these days it’s going to be about how WWIII has started and there won’t be a single thing funny about it.

I wonder what it would take to get Bezos and the WaPo or NYT or really anyone to sure Trump, Sinclair, Fox et al for defamation or whatever the corporate sabotage version is for the Fake News drumbeat. The truth is the absolute defense, so actual journalists are safe, but this is a targeted, organized, systemic attack strictly to destroy all contrary viewpoints and it doesn't habe truth to fall back on.

I'm not sure why they don't do it. It's complete lies.

Manafort's defense is screwed even further. They were trying to get the charges dismissed on the claim that Mueller exceeded his authority. Except, of course, there's a memo from Rosenstein that went into additional detail on what the investigation covered. In the filing related to Manafort's defense's request, that memo was included. That part starts at p 280: (the first attachment was a transcript of the Rosenstein Congressional testimony).
https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/4429556-Response-to-motion.html

So it says:
"The following allegations were within the scope of the investigation at the time of your appointment and are within the scope of the Order:

[about a paragraph of redaction]

Allegations that Paul Manafort:
* Committed a crime or crimes by colluding with Russian government officials with respect to the Russian government's efforts to interfere with the 2016 election for President of the United States, in violation of United States law;
* Committed a crime or crimes arising out of payments he received from the Ukrainian government before and during the tenure of President Viktor Yanukovych

[about a page more of redaction]

I think the interesting thing is how many specific allegations must be listed in that memo that are blacked out because they're not pertinent to this specific request.

I wish I could find the tweet that David Frum had shared, but someone who appears smarter than me in this sort of thing made the case regarding this. It pretty much said that yes, Bezos/Amazon would have reason to sue for Trump's purposeful, false allegations causing stock price changes.

Not just Amazon, though. I'm more referring to the NY Times and Washington Post, because they're consistently being hammered as "FAKE NEWS" by Trump and his cabal at Sinclair, Fox, et al. Putting aside the disturbing First Amendment implications of the President being on an organized campaign to freeze out dissent, which in itself is enough reason to do this, the fact that he specifically calls out those two papers by name as "failing" and "fake" has the potential to be some sort of quid pro quo for the "media" outlets who are essentially being a corporate mouthpiece for him.

With that said, Amazon's down about 60B in market capitalization due to these couple of tweets. I expect they can afford to hire much, much better lawyers than Trumps' team of buffoons. And if they sue for damages they can claim Trump is a self-proclaimed billionaire and compel him to prove otherwise.

Putting troops on the border... nice and illegal. I'm sure the second amendment people will be there to defend against a tyrannical government right?
