So while I previously referred to McConnell as the Pope, I'm torn. I mean, it's clear that the Republicans are covering up investigating a sexual assault - which isn't to say that Kavanaugh did it, but that they are actively and deliberately refusing to even investigate it. I'm not sure if that makes them more like the Catholic Church, Penn State, or Michigan State, or some other case I'm forgetting. The fact that when they found out about the second set of allegations, before they became public, they pushed to have the vote and hearing ASAP is damning.
The funny thing is, I think Kavanaugh at least believes he's telling the truth. My best guess is that he really is a heavy drinker, as many people who knew him attested to in the New Yorker story. We also know that the second allegation, which was in that story, wasn't a case of the victim going to the press, but instead the press getting hold of an email between people who knew Kavanaugh at Yale wondering if that would come out. And I think the committee knows that the more people called to testify, the worse things get for their man -- hell, Kavanaugh is following the same Trumpian path of protesting innocence but refusing to answer a question directly and not wanting to have any independent investigation.
They also stopped having the prosecutor ask questions and went back to the Яepublican senators doing the fluffery instead. He didn't seem to hold up well to prosecution, which makes me wonder if Harris might be able to get something out of him, if at least she can stop him from answering a yes/no question by spending three minutes talking about his academics, sports, or "yeah, I like beer."
