Yeah, the kind of person that happens to start a "friendly" conversation about Obama (now Trump) to see if you are "one of them".

To them, it is a free country, as long as you vote Jesus and worship Republicans.

The kind of folks stumped by a form that asks for "race" when they can't find "American" as an option.

This might add more perspective. These things are everywhere in many truckstops around the country.

Now personally, it's not that big a deal if a Christian Trucker would like to attend a service. What annoys me is if they start to knock on my door when I'm trying to rest or hanging out in front of the entrance handing out pamphlets and Sermons on CD. I've also been approached by Jehovah's Witnesses.

It can be f***ing wierd out here.

Yep, there's religious, and then there's the insecure "I need to convert everyone" crazies. They aren't really trying to convert you, they are trying to convince themselves.

I mean, obviously people can have their faith. No big deal. Not everyone is like that. Church should be about community, but obviously some people just cross that line.

It gets to the whole right/god belief - loyalty above all else. There's an indoctrination aspect into it. They are offended that you don't want in, because WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?

One of my favorite quotes is from Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan (coming to Netflix soon!)

"You'll always have morons like that, swallowing belief patterns whole so they don't have to think for themselves."

Part of me, deep down, truly hopes this is all a big setup by Trump. I mean to us a lot of what he has done makes us shake our heads wondering how any of this can continue to happen and Republicans keep their heads in the sand. I hope that this is a slow, calculated process by Trump to really drain the swamp. This is conspiracy theory level thinking but at this point short of impeachment I don't know what else to hope for.

Yep, come into the Petro or TA Travel Center for hot coffee and Salvation.

They probably wouldn't have been impressed by the time I saw a car with a "Jesus Saves" bumper sticker right next to a car with a "WalMart saves you more" bumper sticker.

When asked about if they will continue to make fun of Donald Trump in South Park's next season, Matt Stone and Trey Parker said no; simply because there is no way they could satirize his presidency anymore than Trump has already done himself.

Didn't Trump say someone under investigation is unfit to serve?

That and so much more.

His entire stump speech where he dubbed Clinton "Crooked Hillary" was the centerpiece of his entire campaign. To see him now in the midsts of investigations over everything including collusion and obstruction is head spinning. Truly Hillary and Obama would have never had a chance at even explaining themselves through this crisis. But instead with Republicans running the show we witness the most half-hearted and ridiculous explanations we've ever heard.

Huckabee Sanders - "The President is not a liar"

Speaker Ryan - "the President is new at this"

What troubles me most about this is how easy the nation is slipping into an understanding of just what the Trump Presidency is. We're becoming used to lies. Lies everyday. Lies for absolutely no reason. Lies without even a bother of an explanation. Proud lies. Bold Lies. Lies that if not properly defended the people in the White House press pool can hear someone yelling at Spicer and his communications staff down the hall.

First you get used to it. But Americans are starting to become comfortable.

I've said it here weeks ago, we can't relent. We can't become comfortable with what is going on. We can't stop speaking out until this administration is gone, either next week, or in four years.

That's on the rest of the GOP. Paul Ryan and company need to grow a spine, and grow some balls and stand up and say "no". Instead they do what Republicans are expected - FALL IN LINE. This goes beyond politics.

I don't get angry at Trump. Every single person with a brain predicted exactly this. I get angry at the rest of them. I hope every GOPer that doesn't denounce Trump loses their congress seat.

John Oliver was talking about how finding creative ways to make fun of Trump is actually super hard.
Sure its hard. Trump has astonishingly made it to the top of the newsfeed almost every day for at least a year. John Oliver and every other political commentator have been talking about him non stop as well. There's only a certain amount of ways to cleverly call Trump an a******

Ryan basically admitted on TV that its party over country so you won't be seeing that anytime soon.

They're good at saying no, someone just needs to convince them that Trump is poor, female, non-white, non-Christian, or non-American and they'll fall over from fatigue after shouting 'NO!' so many times.

Yep, and that's why they need to be the target of everyone's outrage. We can start voting them out in 2018.

Want to keep your GOP Republican congress? Denounce Trump. Good can come out of this bad. We deserve a conservative party that isn't this mess. I actually consider myself to be sort of conservative, but not in any way that lines up with this garbage political party. Left of center Democrats are the true conservative party in this country, then you've got the Bernie liberals. The right is just... nuts.

For all the deification of Reagan on the right, can you imagine how they'd react to him today? He signed tax increases (though, obviously he had more cuts), proposed amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants, and exploded the deficit and national debt. Admittedly, every GOP President since then has also presided over massive deficits too, despite bleating about the debt, because that's just their cudgel that they throw around to try to get spending cuts so they can afford to cut millionaires' taxes even more.

There's a really interesting read (long, but the top part tells a lot). This is a report from the GOP itself after losing 2012. They took an honest look at what lost them the election.

https://www.gop.com/growth-and-opportunity-project/

Point 2 is hilarious: America looks different - "If Hispanic Americans perceive that a GOP nominee or candidate does not want them in the UnitedStates (i.e. self-deportation), they will not pay attention to our next sentence. It does not matter what we say about education, jobs or the economy; if Hispanics think we do not want them here, they will close their ears to our policies. In the last election, Governor Romney received just 27 percent of the Hispanic vote. Other minority communities, including Asian and Pacic Islander Americans, also view the Party as unwelcoming. President Bush got 44 percent of the Asian vote in 2004; ourpresidential nominee received only 26 percent in 2012."

Then Trump won

Not surprising.....

A stunning 50% of the CEOs, business execs, government officials and academics surveyed at the annual Yale CEO Summit give Trump an "F" for his first 130 days in office.

The survey, released earlier this week, found that another 21% give Trump's performance a "D" so far. Just 1% of the 125 leaders polled awarded the billionaire an "A."

The overarching message from CEOs is: "Stop the random 3 a.m. tweets and stop the needless brushfires diverting from the agenda," said Jeffrey Sonnenfeld, the Yale School of Management professor who led the summit.

Sonnenfeld noted that 80% of those surveyed are CEOs, including Blackstone (BX) CEO Steve Schwarzman and IBM (IBM, Tech30) boss Ginni Rometty, who sit on Trump's advisory council and Merck (MRK) CEO Ken Frazier, a member of the president's manufacturing initiative. (Individual responses by each CEO were not released.)

He would be a Democrat in today's politics.

Reagan was back before the worst of the party polarization. You could *gasp* actually pull ideas from both sides and compromise.

That's what really is a big part of the problem with the parties now. You are either a liberal or a conservative, on every issue across the board.

Or a hard core single issue voter like Abortion. A candidate could be a warmonger and still get votes if they pledge to fill any supreme Court justices who are prolife and somehow overturn Roe V Wade.

Yep, that's exactly a big part of why Trump won. My wife's family is from a rural area and very Christian and they forward her all the e-mails from their groups. Basically "well, he's a disgusting human being, but remember Roe v Wade!" So sad... at best they can hope for small changes on abortion.

I agree whole heartedly. I just wonder what's going to be the final straw. I also worry about just what he would do if desperate enough to create a distraction.

But when do Trump supporters actually take responsibility for electing Trump? It's like the same people who all got a convenient case of amnesia and forgot that they voted for GW Bush for two terms. I mean people who voted for George don't ever like to mention that they did.

So why are voters naturally absolved for supporting bad Presidents?
