Now, is this another misdirection?
Of course. There is no way that reducing legal immigration will pass the senate. As Sen. Graham pointed out, doing this would only lead to more illegal immigration.
Trump just wants to rile up his base because that is all that he has left.

That exchange between Steven Miller and the CNN news anchor is the reason we are here today.

It is more than misdirection. The CNN guy is trying to make an argument, Steven Miller (ultimately Trump) is spewing rhetoric and snake oil.

"Should we allow uncontrolled immigration???" Miller asks.

Everything after that is ignored by the alt-right. The left just lost at that point. They don't know why and no it isn't "fair" but they lost all the same. The left is playing chess, the right is playing checkers. The left is trying to win an intelligent debate, the right is spewing empty rhetoric.

This is why both sides look at that clip and laugh, but for completely different reasons. This is why we have a country divided.

Accosta "isn't forcing people to speak English racist?" (it is)
Miller "you're allowing unlimited and unfettered access to this country" (straw man argument, but that's why they win).

You just lost Joe Sixpack middle America. Joe has had nothing but right wing media telling him about the problems in Sweden and how the reason Joe is unemployed is Mexicans and Muslim refugees (refugees make up such a tiny % of the population they don't even matter).

This is why I hate CNN and why they've done more to put Trump in power than anyone else.

Trump made immigration policy the red herring. Trump's entire ideals are based on the idea that our refugee and immigration system previously was terribly flawed. When you let him (and his people) straw man that argument and not respond to it, you just lost. Trump invented the problem, and now is inventing the solution. Mix in a bunch of xenophobia and boom. He wins. His policies make sense to someone who doesn't think on them too hard.

The reality is that while our immigration policy is not perfect, it is simply not the issue Trump makes it out to be. Nobody questions this though. We let Trump and his cronies set the agenda and set the straw man up so that their xenophobic ideas are now the solution.

There's nothing I disagree with in there except being forced to speak English as being racist. I don't think it can be classified as racist.

It is though, but it is very subtle.

I have no problem with a points type system in theory. We want people who will contribute to the economy, not go on welfare (although ironically enough those are the people who will steal our jobs... but that's a separate argument).

The points system should in theory already factor in language. Maybe you are a brilliant engineer, but if you can't speak a word of English... obviously your immediate effectiveness is hindered. That should just be another "point" on the scale. Singling it out as separate (how much English does one need anyway?) is meant to play to the xenophobia.

The problem is nowhere in America does it say English is our national language. Now, it is the defacto language but it is not an official language.

The other problem is "how much English?" I can speak maybe 30 words of German. Can I speak German? By most measures, probably not. However dump me in Germany and how long before I can get by?

Good point about English not being our official language. Let me make a sarcastic tweet about it.

I couldn't get by in the deep South like Mississippi.

In fact, it would be easier for me to start over and learn German than communicate with Americans in Cajun Country.

Yes, but that whole bit about English is the bait. Point based immigration systems are pretty common in western countries as I understand.

Throw in the "speak English or GTFO" bit and now you've got what Trump wants - theater.

It is a little xenophobic, but still has enough practicality that we can pretend it isn't.

LMAO. Secret Service moved its command post out of Trump tower becaues trump wanted more money.

ahahaahaha. even if he's not back there that often, he's putting his family and even the tenants there at risk. So dumb, so very, very dumb.

"President Trump’s insistence on retaining direct ownership of his properties and business creates some sticky and arguably unethical situations on a regular basis. But this latest report is really over the top. The Trump Organization wanted more money for the command space that the Secret Service uses to protect the president’s home and the two could not agree. Now, the president’s security detail has moved out."

Love it.

hehehe. H.R. McMaster allowed Susan Rice to keep her Top Secret Security clearance without having to submit why she needs to know. LOL Trumpy is going to be pissed.

https://www.circa.com/story/2017/08...et-security-clearance-hr-mcmaster-letter-says

"“This memo McMaster sent to Rice makes it so that she doesn’t have to prove a continuing 'need-to-know' to have access to classified information and in effect is a White House pardon of Susan Rice and could be used by other Obama officials who conducted targeted unmasking of the campaign as a defense,” the official added."

So West Virginia's governor is switching to Republican after recently campaigning and winning as a Democrat. Couple things. How is this legal, and why are West Virginia's residents so f***ing stupid to vote for a previously registered Republican.
