So West Virginia's governor is switching to Republican after recently campaigning and winning as a Democrat. Couple things. How is this legal, and why are West Virginia's residents so f***ing stupid to vote for a previously registered Republican.
Bernie did it to run as a democrat. He's back to independent.

The law should be, if it isn't, you have to serve as the party affiliation you were elected as until your term is over.

When he leaves office (or is removed) we'll probably be finding out things that he did for years that was unethical.

How about this? Trump already campaigning for 2020 (barf).

See, he can use his own hotels and bill his own campaign.

So when Joe Sixpack donates his hard earned money to Trump's campaign, Trump lines his own pockets with it.

Of course this isn't actually illegal. He may actually MAKE MONEY on top of everything else.

According to the Trump campaign's self-reported FEC filings, this has amounted to about $600,000 spent at Trump-owned properties in just the first six months of his presidency.

He's donating his "Presidential salary" because that's a pittance compared to being able to charge double and triple rates to the government for the use of his facilities, which means we're all basically paying for him to go on a vacation at prices nobody else would have to pay.

Yep, this is why he'll never show the tax returns either. What would his supporters think if they saw that he basically pays zero taxes, and on top of that he's making money off US tax dollars?

I haven't been following politics, because, well I never do. But how many people has the Donald fired so far?

And before his presidency, there was Paul Manafort. I think Michael Cohen. Probably others.

I'm sure we've all come to some of the same conclusions but some psychologists have done the analysis on some of the traits Trump supporters share.

"
1. Authoritarian Personality Syndrome

Authoritarianism refers to the advocacy or enforcement of strict obedience to authority at the expense of personal freedom, and is commonly associated with a lack of concern for the opinions or needs of others. Authoritarian personality syndrome—a well-studied and globally-prevalent condition—is a state of mind that is characterized by belief in total and complete obedience to one’s authority. Those with the syndrome often display aggression toward outgroup members, submissiveness to authority, resistance to new experiences, and a rigid hierarchical view of society. The syndrome is often triggered by fear, making it easy for leaders who exaggerate threat or fear monger to gain their allegiance.

Although authoritarian personality is found among liberals, it is more common among the right-wing around the world. President Trump’s speeches, which are laced with absolutist terms like “losers” and “complete disasters,” are naturally appealing to those with the syndrome.

While research showed that Republican voters in the U.S. scored higher than Democrats on measures of authoritarianism before Trump emerged on the political scene, a 2016 Politico survey found that high authoritarians greatly favored then-candidate Trump, which led to a correct prediction that he would win the election, despite the polls saying otherwise.

I don't know how we are going to get through to people that unless they are a one percenter that they are completely voting against their own self-interest. Well, I guess if there only interest is spreading hate then Trump is perfect and they are fine being slaves.

That's the challenge. Trump has the easy "answers". Sure it is all snake oil, but people buy it.

The big problem isn't people who are overtly racist, but the people who don't realize that they are racist. The kinds of people who accept all the lies about minorities and refugees without question. They can live in denial about their racism by believing these "facts". Trump won an election, so that just "legitimizes" it. You attack them and call them "racist" and they lash out (much like the drug addict when first confronted). Denial is a powerful thing.

On top of that, Trump plays the "they are going to attack us" card so well. So, call them racist and they dig in and it just confirms what Trump says.

He's like the old time medicine wagon guys selling mercury or worse as cure-all wonder drugs.

Mental disorder (there's a guy in my area that has a giant Trump sign covering half his house).

This isn't a normal thing.

Just needs a sticker that says "I have a tiny dick" and that would complete his collection of stickers.

Should I revisit the thread on becoming an Expat?

In all seriousness, if Trump or anyone like him wins another term I will seriously consider it.

I'm being totally honest... if this Trump mentality continues, I really think one side of this thing needs to go somewhere else.

That said, I have faith in people to not make this same mistake again. Trump's support is fading, and it took an amazingly unique situation to allow him to win in the first place (if you add up all the GOP support for the "normal" candidates, they easily bet him - the problem was that they all split the vote).
