I really hate saying it but it does seem like this year's will be much better.

Geoff is paying for it out of his own pocket so he really needs to make his investment be worth it -- I'm assuming he'll focus more on making this show work since it's a risk for him.

On top of this, Viacom and Spike TV are in no way/shape/form involved in this. That alone should make it much better too.

Vampiricsoul - it's actually not the VGAs but a new venture called the Game Awards. I'll change your thread title from VGA to Game Awards, to reflect that.

There's reference in the article to suggest the VGAs are done: "While officials at Spike TV did not respond to emails seeking comment, it appears the 10-year run for the show ended last December with the VGX show."

Now Keighley is bankrolling a new awards show.

"Geoff Keighley announced The Game Awards 2014, a night of new game reveals, new trailers, and awards streamed live from Las Vegas on Dec. 5 in front of a live, potentially massive audience."

I'm not holding my breath, but it may be better than the VGAs, which I found to be embarrassing.

"Over the years, the Keighley-hosted VGAs received a fair amount of criticism as it tried to find the right sort of tone and mix of entertainment and accolades. Viewers were unhappy with award winners, unhappy with co-hosts, unhappy with the show's tone, which at times seemed to ride on the stereotype of a gamer."

"So why does Keighley think that he can create a success on his own, without the financial backing and television muscle of Spike TV?"

"The VGAs and VGX always had a group of decision makers involved in the show," Keighley said, when I asked him. "One thing important for me the Game Awards is that I'm sort of driving it creatively. I have a board of advisers, and I'm going to them, but they don't make the decisions. I think this show will be a show I am making for the game audience, not for the pressures of the television network or some of the desires they had."

It's going to be streamed on both consoles and no doubt in other places as well. Personally, I find it better to watch a taped version of award shows, so I can fast forward through all the BS.

lol, I enjoyed VGX. It was so bad it was entertaining.

It's a shame they had to stop the brand of VGA, since it does sport a 10 year history. I never understood why they had it in front of a live audience. In my opinion, I feel it'd be better to have a smaller and more round table presentation if you will featuring gameplay clips, animated acceptance speeches, and the great cinematic trailers. Good luck to Keighley though, he's a good guy in my opinion and he's putting his own money into this shows he at least believes in the concept and isn't just doing it for the fame. Let this be your Psycho sir.

By the way, is this an open ballot for fans or will there be a selection of judges? I think it'd be interesting to have both myself. Like I said before, have a roundtable but you can also ask fans to send in quick vids showcasing why they feel their game should get the win.

It honestly cannot be any worse than last year. Maybe we'll get some cool reveals this time? I read Phil Spencer is involved...could this mean there's going to be a X1 reveal? Who knows....i am gonna watch it and i'll keep my expectations realistic.

Rumor has it that not only will there be a new gameplay trailer from Uncharted 4, There will also be a teaser trailer for a TLOU sequel.

Anyway the show can't be any worse than last year...right ? RIGHT?
