The Nintendo Switch

I already said earlier in the thread that the reason they are launching in March is so there are games worth a damn at launch. That's business common sense if I ever heard it.
So developers are revolting and refusing to release their games at launch if it has to be holiday 2016? Sounds like Nintendo gave developers very little heads up about this console even existing. No one had time to get multiplat games ported? Nintendo's own in-house can't even get their own Zelda game finished after five or more years in development hell? Doesn't sound business savvy.

Games that will more than likely already be at least 3-4 months old on other consoles.

People can forget about the system being solid for core sports games too. Nintendo already faced an uphill battle in this genre but a March release date pretty much kills their chance in this area.

So we are probably going to see a lineup that consists largely of already released multiplatform games and Wii U remakes (like Smash Bros.). All of this outside of the Holiday season. I'm sorry but it's pretty crazy in my opinion.

Listen, are you buying a Nintendo console for Nintendo games, or third party games like Call Of Duty, Battlefield, Dark Souls, etc?

Me? I buy a Nintendo console for Nintendo games. Nintendo knows that. So they are releasing in March so there are a bunch of must-have Nintendo games.

They simply don't need third party games to survive. A good Nintendo game sells millions. See Splatoon, Mario Kart, Super Mario Maker, etc.

That is why I haven't bought a Big N console in a couple generations. Don't need third party's to survive, WiiU says hi!

And yet for all of at least four years the NX has been in development, having access to the hardware far longer than any third-party developer, they still refused to produce a launch lineup for holiday 2016. This just isn't business savvy.

Nintendo doesn't care about you. You were never going to buy a Nintendo console no matter what games were on it, right?

What would get you to buy the NX?

This simply isn't true. Especially this generation. Third party titles are what's selling systems. Even the sales of a decent amount of PS4 and Xbox One exclusives haven't been that great.

I buy Nintnedo consoles for Nintendo games but I simply don't think that a system that focuses solely on these games can be successful -- especially if it releases outside of the Holiday season. The Wii U shows this pretty clearly and that released during the Holiday season of 2012.

March launch is a bad decision in my opinion.

I vehemently disagree. Image if on launch of the NX in March you have...

A 3D Mario game.
A 3D Zelda game.
Animal Crossing
Metroid
And some sort of Mario sports game.

Gangbusters.

And that's why the WiiU is such a smashing success.

I would have bought a WiiU if it had the third party support that Sony/MS have. I love my Marios, Zeldas and Metroids, I also love The Division, Dying Light, and Fallout. I'd gladly take 3rd party support over hair brained gimmicks and terrible online functionality.

From the Nintendo NX derailed to talk about the GameCube running Dark Souls III max settings. This won't end well. I smell the doom.

I don't get why Nintendo always skips E3. That's like your best chance to get people interested. They don't even really need to advertise the NX though. If they say Mario and Zelda are coming and they have graphics like we've never seen before for those games they're all set.

They don't skip E3. They just put out a video detailing everything instead of renting a theater for a big presentation.

Love that they are launching in March gives them more time to polish launch titles. The Nintendo hardcore will buy it regardless of what month it comes out.

I don't know if it's a smart decision to launch in March or not -- I read things on both sides. Seems like most people think it's a mistake, but I suppose you could make an argument for either side.

I'm not so concerned about the timing as about the idea itself. I guess we'll have to wait and see what they've got up their sleeves. I feel apprehensive when I hear they are going to do something new and original. I wish they wouldn't, lol. I'm afraid they're going to come out with some goofy-ass hybrid between a console and a 3DS and a smartphone and a vacuum cleaner or something.

A Nintendo console with similar power, similar online features, and similar third party support would clean up. They shouldn't feel the need to distance themselves with gimmicks. They distance themselves by being Nintendo and having the best first party games.

I agree, and yet, the Wii was so successful, I'll bet that, internally, they are hooked on the idea of "originality." Like a gambler returning to the slot machine where he got a big payoff a long time ago, they'll keep going back there, trying to hit it big again.

If nintendo could get their online network together, I'd call that a win by itself.

The Wii was basically a fad. It wasn't very expensive and had a simple control scheme. All the Wii fitness stuff amplified the image. The people that bought it are not coming back. They already surrendered to the gimmick and they are back to trying to make the core happy. The problem with that is they don't seem to be giving people what they want.

The fact that they spent so much effort on integrating that controller into the new Star Fox at a detriment to the experience says a lot. A Nintendo game that doesn't control well is a scary prospect. Having to wait eons between mainline Nintendo franchises is another issue. To wait that long and get a mediocre to weak experience is crazy. No big Mario game in a GENERATION? Boggles the mind.

Why not? You just said you'd be interested in a Nintendo console if it could run big 3rd party titles in high quality.

Yeah I did, a full featured console though (online, no gimmicks, etc) it's more than just graphics.

Mario 3D World is a big Mario game IMO, while not as great as the Galaxy games it was still amazing. It was from the same team that made Galaxy and better than Sunshine. That they made a proper 3D Mario game and made it play great with 3 other players was awesome.

You've got a point. Buying a Nintendo NX is now off the table because the GameCube can't run Dark Souls III.
