The Nintendo Switch

Recap from GAF.

Looks like out of all the Switch features and presentation, HD Rumble is thing that stuck out the most with devs??!?!? Who knew. I thought HD Rumble would be among the least important things shown.

Remember when they would talk about the rumble features in the XBone and how they could make you feel a fireball shoot out and away from you? The only game I can think of that uses the nonstandard application of it is the Forza Series. I love it and think it really adds a lot, but it very underutilized. I see the same happening here.

Why the hell doesn't Nintey publish that then?! It's like they go out of their way to seem archaic...
They did publish some official specs, but only for some components. Things like cpu/gpu are labeled simply as "NVIDIA customised Tegra processor". There's also no point in them promoting to everyone to check out their specs when everyone knows it will be weak.

They are also misleading too. For "System Memory", they are talking about the 32gb HDD, as opposed to RAM. Nobody calls a console or PC harddrive (or storage) by having 500gb of system memory, but Ninty does.

On their site, they don't even say anything about RAM.

Did you preorder yours?

You would think the Switch was a shoe in to be the best selling console of all time with how much attention it gets. Crazy how many people just put down Nintendo but they're more worried about it than the console they do like. I sense a lot of bad blood from all the companies Nintendo was able to make look foolish and still look foolish to this day. They hate keeps coming, and they just keep rolling along.

Pretty good commercial.

I wonder what people will make of the 1, 2 Switch segments? Probably WTF? Like the rest of us.

Nintendo to charge $18-$25 a year for their online service...

Like its rivals, the Nintendo Switch's online services will be needed to access certain types of multiplayer matchmaking and in-game voice chat. The Switch will handle this differently than other systems—through a smartphone app, which will synchronize connectivity and chat with the console. This decision may be partly due to the system's headphone jack residing in the hardware, which cannot be accessed when the system is in "TV dock" mode. Other controllers, including the Switch's "Pro" controller and its default Joy-Con wands, do not have their own headphone jacks. (Nintendo has not announced whether the system's Bluetooth functionality will support players' own Bluetooth

That may explain why a external smart device is needed for chat (crappy hardware design if true).

Online details:
Players will be able to add friends to online matches either through a normal friends list or by combing through social-media services, and their ability to voice chat, at least in the upcoming Splatoon 2, will be limited to "friends-only."

Sick commercial. Tom Brady coming for that 5th ring and Nintendo coming for the gaming crown. It's going to be a good Sunday.

Sold out real quick. Man the butthurt from the haters will be strong if this system is a success:laugh:

Almost pulled the trigger on a preorder but figure I'll wait. As much as I would like to play Zelda, there is just nothing else at launch that I would like to play.

These Nintendo commercials really strike me that they are trying hard to capture the 16-30 year olds by making it seem "cool". I have heard in Asia it's common to see this demographic walking about with their 3DS handhelds but it's not something I see in North America.

I don't see this market taking on to what the commercials portray. If they replaced those actors with 5-15 year old kids then they would be striking a chord. Maybe they think they already have them on board and are trying to expand their reach.

Do the 18-30 year olds here see this as something you will be doing with your friends out in the open?

(And while I am a somewhat "hater" of what Nintendo came up with, I would LOVE to be wrong and see this succeed. I am all for a healthy industry and support it fully, including a pre-order here. But it won't curtail me from thinking this will flop like WiiU).

Man, I was about to answer this when I realised that I am now closer to 40 than 30.... Awww, now I'm depressed!

Not very compelling. Let's face it, this is all about Zelda and the only reason that is the case is because Nintendo held it back to screw the WiiUsers and make something compelling for Switch. Can you imagine if Zelda had come out 6 months ago how much excitement there wouldn't be for Switch launch?
