For the few of us who give a flip.

The Kings opened training camp today. Haven't kept up much during the offseason but most of the core is returning and Quick is still Quick, so hopefully another deep playoff run is on the cards.

Canucks gonna take it this year :bang:

Ok now that I have stopped dreaming, I do think that the new divisions will be good. The Canucks have notoriously sucked in the playoffs because they played the easiest teams in the regular season, but now that they have real teams to play against perhaps they can step up to the plate.

If the Leaves (sic) were half as good as Vancouver, the bluster emanating from Toronto about how this is their year would be... oh, the same as every year.

Excited for the new season. Think my local USHL team will be starting up at the end of this month as well, and the company I work for has a suite so all I can say is hells yea.

As for NHL go Blackhawks and Coyotes.

It's hockey pool time. Won myself about $600 worth last season including tying for first in an 80 person playoff pool My best year ever. Typically I do pretty well in NHL pools while my baseball pools aren't very good.

Canucks should crash and burn a bit as Luongo will burn out and Torts style won't go well with the Sedins. By mid season, you'll see lots of crying by players as they can't handle Torts.

Sedins needs some tough love, I am hoping Torts whips them into shape, and doesn't mess with the lines too much. Why they traded Cory and kept Luongo I don't know stupid trade.

Nobody is going to take Luongo, so their choices were buy out Luongo and go with Cory, or trade Cory for something and ride out Luongo for many more years... and maybe buy him out later. His contract and performance makes him untradeable. He's still a good goalie, but not worth the remaining contract.

They chose the financial savings route by sticking with Luongo as they don't want to take a hit to the pocketbooks and are praying he's still good enough to lead the team to a cup.

As for Sedins, I have zero faith they will get a long with Torts. I don't see the twins accepting a loudmouth coach like Torts. As a hockey fan, I see some mighty entertaining epilogues later in the season.

Lol, perhaps. I don't think NY will like AV either, but I think Torts can help balance the nucks and help them build a strong foundation, instead of everyone relying on a couple people, and AV changing the lines every other week, no synergy ever was really created.

So when Pittsburgh fails in the playoffs again, do you think it's time for a coaching change?
They should have changed coaches already. Despite an all-star lineup they haven't come close to winning the cup since their cup 5 years ago. The most stacked team in the league almost lost the Islanders in round one.

The playoffs last season (not the most recent one) where they went out to the Flyers should have been the end. The only way I can describe what I saw in some of those games was an appalling disregard for defense. I think one of the games, late in a period, three Penguins just stood by while Couturier (I think) got a fairly easy goal. It was a real shock after watching the way most teams in the West have been playing, where they'll sell out to get to the front of the net or keep the other guys from getting there.

Torts doesn't believe in set lines either. He tinkers just as much as AV -- if not more. Frustrated the hell out of me as a Rangers fan.

As long as Darryl Sutter continues sounding like a cowboy who got roofied, it'll all be good for me.

I can't remember anytime I've followed hockey where the Pens were a defensive minded team. They've had the luxury of lots of top picks due to their roller coaster season records so they've landed lots of firepower forwards which leads to offence first, defence second. Great for the regular season where half the teams are lousy, but come playoff time it's hard to rack up 5-6 goals a game when teams like Florida, Isles, Atlanta and other usual bottom feeder teams aren't in the playoffs most of the time.

Crosby and Malkin...offensively gifted yes. Defensive liabilities. For all the points they rack up, they traditionally only have around a + 10-20 +/- rating at most. Not bad by any means, but nothing spectacular. Malkin actually has a negative +/- rating in half his years. So for all the goals they contribute to, that shadowing third line on the other team scores almost as many goals at even-strength than either of these guys.

Excited to see what new dynamic Detroit brings to the East. And yes, I'm a Leafs fan and they're gonna kick ass this year (they actually will kick ass, may not make the playoffs but they will goon it up!)

Haha.

Good luck with Torts btw and hope you re-sign the twins forever.

Looking forward to my first full regulation season as a Sabres fan. Last season was fun, but with only a few games, meh.

Bump..............NHL Playoffs guys...

How about my Habs...!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wooooooooooooo!!!! might sweep Tampa Bay.

You where saying...? lol still early and thats all the bragging I will do for now but great win last night by the Habs... :p

Must be nice...

I'm waiting for the Leafs to fire someone. What's taking so long?!?! LOL

Playoffs have been pretty good so far.

I hope it goes down like this. Bruins beat the Habs in 5. Bruins beat the Penguins in 7. Chicago sweeps the Bruins in the SCF.

Chicago is then considered a dynasty (3 cups in 5 years counts in my book) and the big bad bruins lose back to back SCF :D

Saw on ESPN yesterday about that black player making the game winning goal and then fans ripping him with racist remarks on Twitter. WTF! With one racist thing going on in the NBA you would think fans would not be this stupid. That was good of the Bruins coming out with an apology. And they wonder why more black players are not in the league with fans acting like that.

Goddamn it Montreal...blew a 2 goal lead with like 8 minutes to go and lost...this might be the turning point in the series...
