The Order: 1886

I love the look of those uniforms and weapons. Not sold on the gameplay yet, but presumably it's more than just cover shoot reload.

Hmm. That's odd.

The screenshot looks a bit blurrier than I'd expect... as if the native res isn't 1920x1080 (albeit with black bars at the top and bottom). That white-ish thing just above his shoulder has an odd stair-stepping pattern which implies upscaling.

Weird.

It's not a direct screen, someone took it when watching the stream.

Do we have any direct screen buffer dumps, and/or straight-from-the-box screen grabs? I'm just curious.

So 2015 release is very likely?

Seems likely.

Generally, if you're showing off super-cool stuff that's releasing in mere months - you let people know.

There are always exceptions to such generalities, but I'd say that it's more likely than not.

Damn. Unless Sony make some unexpected announcements for games releasing this year,it seems only Driveclub will be their big exclusive. Then again, so far we only know about SO for Microsoft, but there are many signs pointing to a Halo collection too.

Definitely no slouch visually... but it does seem that visuals may be improperly prioritized above gameplay/substance (just based on what we've seen so far). I haven't heard about any MP (single player ONLY experiences just aren't worth $60), and I actually thought there was a very perceptive post in Neogaf about the limited choices the user seems to have, and the very scripted experience.

Seems like another 'interactive movie' - like experience from the Sony camp.

I hope I'm wrong. A game that gorgeous deserves quality gameplay and replay-value behind it.

I believe they said that it only has a SP campaign.

This thread is pretty civil compared to the neogaf reaction thread, it's a madhouse over there.

Flynn is even making reasonable impressions, what's going on?! I'm confused.

I'll just say that if any "slated for 2014" game doesn't have a release date/month yet then don't expect it to come out this year.

Anyway, game looks really good. It's the only PS4 exclusive I'm interested in right now. Wished they showed a bit more though. Guess we got to wait for E3.

Yeah I was reading a little of that...some are arguing there has been a graphical downgrade..? I'm on my phone but some comparison pics have been posted. I don't see a big difference...?

You do know letter boxed 1080p blu-rays do the exact same thing and although technically not full 1080p due to the bars...are still considered 1080p.

You do know your comment has nothing to do with mine, right?

No it wasn't exactly ;)
But you seemed to be saying the non 1080pness(due to the letter boxing like br's as i pointed out)
Had issues with the upscaling but what I say its more along the lines of bad quality vids/pics.

Yeah, that makes sense. I could have worded it better... But yeah, I have no prob with the black bars, it just was a poor screen grab that implied lower res being upscaled.

Why have two characters stand in covering positions only to make them not cover the player and make the player do all the work ? A.I seemed a little sketchy to. Visually it looks great.

I have to disagree that single player games aren't with $60.00, adding on some crappy MP just so you can say you have it doesn't raise the value of the game, I think the last God of War game was the latest big release to prove that. We don't know enough about this game to say it should have MP or co-op, we don't know how the story plays out and how often the characters get separated. This is RAD's first big console game and based on the hard work they are obviously doing on the tech side with The Order along with the nice work they've done in the past with the portable GOW games I think they should be given the benefit of the doubt. If their vision for this game was a single player experience along with what they hope is a great story than why should it be compromised to add something that doesn't fit into their vision? that's the kind of crap that ruins games.

Well God of War and The Order are separated by a massive margin when it comes to MP. How many hack & slash games have had decent multiplayer ? very few, it is fundamental concept just does not suit it. The Order on the other hand, it is a 3rd person action shooter. Many a game like this has had quality and long lasting MP.

MP in shooters is pretty much expected nowadays. It is fine to have a vision and make it a priority, but to ignore the trends and almost universal expectations could prove costly.

I used that as an example it's not the only game where resources could have been better spent on the single player portion of the game. RAD isn't a huge studio, last I read it was just under 100 people and while they are getting some help from SSM none of us know how much. Just pushing to have MP in a game for the sake of having it sounds like something people would consider an EA type of move.

All games could have had better spent resources. Balancing resources to create a complete and inviting package is what it is all about, att least from a business perspective. Like I said, ignoring this trend, this expectation, could prove costly for RAD and this game. That is not to say the game will be bad. It just may not project enough value to warrant a purchase from the masses. We have already seen a number of people dismiss it because of the exclusion of MP.

So, I say again, having a priority is fine, but ignoring trends and almost universal expectations could prove costly.

Graphics look great, gameplay is suspect, AI didn't look impressive yet at all, many AI in the ps2 era had better reaction time. Hopefully, it will improve.

Wow. Gorgeous! Can't fault the visuals, certainly! Not much going on in the vids, though. Im not seeing more than 2 or 3 baddies at a time, and the play area is extremely tight. Here's hoping there are some larger areas where the AI can Show it's stuff, we can get that epic feel. Not knocking the game, but I hope it's more than super-tight corridor gameplay- as that is all they have shown. I'm sure at E3 they will pull the curtain and really blow us away!
