The Xbox One Thread v4.0

I dunno but most of the commands for the OS seemed to work fine. I also don't understand why my motion control was so screwed. When I played that wave race my guy kept leaning in one direction and just generally not following my motions.

I can understand giving Microsoft time to prove kinect is worth it to an extent but they are the ones who want us to buy it and pay a premium for it. They need to sell it, I feel they should have been prepared with something great. Especially if kinect was going to mean a weaker console, which it does.

i don't like the motion controls for the most part. Leaning in BF works good, but the head tracking in vehicles throws me off.

Voice commands though, unilaterally, work perfectly.

I dunno man, I understand some people can't get it to work, either due to dialect or simply CAN'T make it work. However, I do believe in its potential.

Luckily not weaker by much. Win win for us gamers.

Remains to be seen honestly. Though from the way things are going right now it's not looking good imo.

Are we sure Kinect is the reason ? I mean that other console was also going to launch with a packed in kinect like device. You need to remember that both consoles this gen took a completely different approach as far as Hardware cost goes, and what is not looking good ? A few 3rd party ports having discrepancies ? Shiiiiittt, I guess that makes the 360/PS3 more powerful than a PC cause GTA 4 was a crappy port. We need to keep things in perspective.

We all know Sony didn't spend as much on their camera as MS did with Kinect. It's obvious and I'm shocked you even need to be told! A few 3rd party? I'm pretty sure every 3rd party game that isn't capped at 30 fps is better on competition machine and I'm willing to bet if some games weren't capped at 30 they'd be better too. Like NFS rivals for example. Your sentence about GTA doesn't apply considering 360/ps3/pc were all extremely different.

Not the case this gen.

You missed the point. Point is this gen isn't like all the previous generations. This isn't a "Who has the deepest wallet" generation. This is "make mad profit from the get go" generation. Also, the GTA line does apply. The point was 3RD party orts can vary wildly and the power of the system makes little difference. The amount of variables in play right now - We are still in the birthing period too - make it hard to make any real judgements either way.

I know this isn't Apples to Apples, but look at the PS3. It started out as a dogs dinner and eventually became a decent 3 coarse meal. Sure, that other restaurant got slightly better reviews, but regardless, you still had a nice place.

what you hate, others love... accept it and move on.

In Ryse, it is far easier to say "fire volley" than to do the button press. You have to press and hold the command as a button press vs. just saying it. That comes from the game originally being a kinect game I'd imagine.

I get what you are saying, but you need to stop portraying it like you are spouting fact and you are RIGHT and all of us that use it and like it are somehow wrong.

I apologize if I am off base, but that is the way you are coming off.

I don't have qualms with anyone who enjoys it, it's there and if people enjoy it, so be it. I have qualms with it being bundled with the Xbox One to begin with.

MSFT claims the Kinect is integral to the Xbox One experience. Keyword: integral.

I have a 40in tv in the living room that serves as our primary tv for viewing movies, watching tv, etc. When we're wanting to watch netflix, we still don't use the kinect voice features. Call us old fashion, but I don't sit there with my wife on the couch and start spouting commands to the Kinect, it feels foreign and odd. The controller does exactly what I need to do and I don't care if it's not saving me a few seconds.

Then when we're in a gaming mood, we have a study room setup as our office/gaming room. My wife has a desk and I have desk. If she's in the mood to get on the PC and draw or play games, I'll bring my smaller TV from our bedroom and then unlplug my X1 from the living room TV and bring it into the study. So now I've got a smaller TV hooked up to my X1....no Kinect. I don't bring the kinect into that setup because it serves no purpose. When I turn on the X1, I do my manual sign in which is simply click up to the top left corner and signing in...though I do think there should be an auto-sign in option like the 360 is. Anyway, I game and do my stuff just as I normally would, but without the Kinect. My experience doesn't change one bit.

So my point I'm trying to make is that MSFT says Kinect is integral to the Xbox One experience...what experience is that? My kinect-less experience is just fine and not having the kinect plugged in isn't making me have any less "fun" or my experience any "less" satisfying.

I think a lot of people make the Kinect out to be something more than it is. Xbox Fitness is the only application I find any valid Kinect usage out of. Hell, Xbox Fitness would still be good without the Kinect camera because it's just a library of fitness videos at our fingertips. Kinect is basically eliminating the need for a heart rate monitor device, otherwise it's pointless.

If they do not pack it in the it is pretty much pointless doing anything with it all. All you will get is low quality shovelware with a life expectancy of about an hour. Also, lets not forget that MS were going to force you to have Kinect. They built in to everything on the system.

While I am with you on not liking Kinect. I certainly see the business logic of packing it in.

bill gates is back
http://www.neowin.net/news/satya-na...es-to-help-with-product-problems-at-microsoft

With reports now mounting that Satya Nadella will soon be named chief executive of Microsoft, where he currently serves as the head of its cloud services division, further reports are illustrating the complexity of Microsoft's impending transition. One new report claims Bill Gates' rumored removal as chairman is actually to become more involved with Microsoft's products.

Swisher states her sources say Nadella "asked Gates to do so, helping specifically with technology and product problems," with the duo even meeting recently to determine a schedule to make such a scenario work. Gates would only step down, Swisher claims, if an arrangement could be made where he's more involved in Microsoft.

If the arrangement is made, Gates would serve as a "wingman," Swisher says, which would give Nadella a form of backup against Microsoft's other executives.
The report aligns with previous statements made by Gates that he would be more involved at Microsoft once a new chief executive is selected, and not having to manage Microsoft's board would give him more time to do just that

Is Nadella the one who was reportedly wanting to scrap the xbox division ?

When you unplug the Xbox One, it works as normal...plugging it back in doesn't change the experience much at all. It adds a small layer of convenience, i.e., being away from your controller and shouting a command for it to do something. Is that really changing the experience of the Xbox? No, it's adding a layer of convenience that's not a necessity.

I definitely don't agree with you and I don't think I missed the point at all. 3rd party ports can vary wildly? Well guess what? they all seem to be doing better on the competition machine which pretty much negates that whole argument. They aren't varying they are definitely better on one and not the other. Even with both new platforms being closer in architecture with eachother and PC's compared to any other generation. Those facts alone make your argument invalid. It's also tiring hearing about the PS3. The ps3 was a nightmare for devs to work with and was a flawed system.

I wouldn't want to lump the xb1 with the ps3 if you do that then you are opening up a whole new level of sad face on Microsofts part. Also, the whole birthing thing is a lame excuse in my book. That goes both ways, especially considering the architectures are even more similar than previous generations!

I really don't want to compare both consoles in this thread anymore as the mods are going to have a melt down. I don't even know how I ended up doing it again when all I did was state my dislike for Forzas graphics and provide a link backing up the fact that the title was indeed downgraded.

You're free to think the game looks great but the fact that it was downgraded is indeed a fact that cannot be argued.

http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Forza-5-Xbox-One-Graphics-Downgraded-From-E3-Build-60711.html

Thats just one link, google it and you will find plenty.

Yeah i've seen most of them, either way its the most technically impressive next gen console game to me in person, even with a downgrade. It really does amaze me still, even having it this long.

I wish there was a tear meter that showed how much people cried over the same fugging thing over and over again. Then when you went past a certain point somebody goes to your house and punches you in your face.

For me, I use it literally for everything navigating. I turn the box on with it, check messages, check for friends on line, start the games, use the voice commands (in game if available). I haven't skyped yet, no one I know uses it.

I would say more than 90% of the time, I don't touch my controller or even turn it on until I am actually in game and ready to play.

Sounds good. My bro said in Netflix you can even tell the app to enable subtitles and it will do that without interrupting the video, great stuff. Still though...when just navigating through the dashboard to check on demos and just general game stuff....i still expect to be doing that with the controller. But we'll see. :D

Wow. Based on a Neogaf post that was deleted by a Neogaf mod. If this is oh so true, why, of all people, would Neogaf delete the post?

There were some valid points there, but it was still a work in progress. Like I said before, who Knows how much changed behind the physics and what not. I think I know why they went with mostly 2 crowds in the end ( much denser crowds and dev team cameos) but there are 3d people sprinkled around ( some of them much more high poly than necessary.) And if you look close the 2d "cutouts" have a normal map that allows for the light to catch in a 3d way. Not to mention how high def they are.

I don't doubt they had to "downgrade" a couple things as they added more for the machine to think about.

I do question why it's such a bone of contention, and why it needs to be brought up so often. The game looks and runs great ( minor niggles of aliasing aside.)

Also: calibrate your TV people! It makes a huge difference!

I don't even know what neogaf post you are talking about or what bit of news you are referring to.

Oh, I'm sure you don't. You really ought to research your fud before you start spreading it.

So the fact that Forza was downgraded is fud? really? lol. Take the fanboy glasses off please. It was downgraded! deal with it.

I love Forza 5. It runs great, looks great, and has amazing physics and AI. It is a huge upgrade from Forza 4. The only downgrade was the track and car count. Considering that every car now has autovista mode, it is a trade I am more than willing to make.

Without Forza 5, I would have never preordered an X1 for launch. I would have waited. If the competition had a serious driving game I would have maybe considered them... but they didn't.

Turn off all the driving assists and try a lap at Laguna Seca and let me know how the game is. Most gamers don't understand driving physics should probably stick to NFS.

Look.....some people say it was downgraded...some people say it isn't.....or they don 't care because it still looks good.
Everybody should learn to 'deal with differing opinions'

Seriously.

Forza was downgraded and it is not a matter of opinion. You have got to be kidding me.
