The Xbox Onesie

Kinect was always over priced. The original only cost around $50 to make and yet MS charged 3x that. a 60-70 price point would have worked.

Yeah, it was left out to dry by the Phil regime. Not saying it was a bad decision, but it's pretty obvious that the intent was to kill it from the start, not just remove it from some of the pack-ins. It could have easily been a much cheaper add-on. Same with the adaptor.

In hindsight I don't think there was a way to make Kinect work. The tech was cool, but after playing VR, I don't see what would have made it work. VR is way better and even that is something I only use a small part of the time. As much as I like VR I spend the majority of my time playing "regular" controller games.

Kinect was ok and mine is still sitting above my center speaker, just not connected.

Basically I got tired of putting my custom cardboard shoebox thing over it every time I wanted to masturbate and felt the cons outweighed the pros as far as convenience vs privacy.

Thing is now a worthless piece of junk no? I actually have the camera for the 360 somewhere, zero value along with the several DVD remotes and IR adapters for the OG Xbox.

As long as ms don't disable voice control it's not worthless.

Also buy FRU

Microsoft's gaming revenue has stalled according to the latest quarterly report.

While overall Microsoft revenue reached $24.5 billion, a year-on-year increase of 12%, gaming revenue was up by only 1% (0% in constant currency).

Gaming revenue for the quarter ending September 30, 2017 reached $1.89 billion, edging up slightly from $1.88 billion over the same period last year.

Xbox software and services revenue grew up 21% (20% CC) driven by continued momentum in digital distribution and strong game title performance, but offset by a lower hardware revenue.

The number of Xbox Live active users sits at 53 million, meaning a year-on-year increase of 13%. However, the number has not grown from the previous quarter and remains lower than it was during the three month period ending December 31, 2016 where it reached 55 million.

Looking forward to the next quarter, Microsoft CFO Amy Hood said: "We expect revenue growth from the launch of the Xbox One X console and continued healthy growth of software and services revenue. In Q2, the higher mix of gaming hardware revenue will significantly impact both the segment and company gross margin percentages."

People held off. Who's gonna spend $399 for a 1TB Minecraft S when you get so much more with an X.

Some held off and Microsoft did a s***ty job of convincing anyone to buy a $250 X1S which should be very appealing

Yeah I can see this increasing and even if it doesn’t 53 million active users is really impressive, even if it is down.

Revenue? Of course it will. The X is almost twice the price of the S. The fact its up 1% at all on the eve of its successors release and that the S dropped price this year and there were bigger releases dropping last year is surprising. I would have thought a 20% drop

I'm surprised gaming revenue is flat. You'd think with X coming out, hardware sales (which have dried up lately) would surely put a damper on the overall number.

It goes to show that software revenue/Live subs are still strong and countering drops in Xbox OG/S sales.

Oddly enough higher than Sony's last active PSN numbers
That's crazy. Goes to show despite lower X1 sales vs PS4, Xbox gamers prefer being online more.

Makes sense. Xbox has always been a brand built on competitive spirit. Sony and Nintendo systems less so.

You're wrong with this one. There was a thread at GAF several months ago that reported Sony have 70 million monthly active users. 52 million monthly active users for MS. 125 million yearly active users for Steam.

Yeah yankeessucks post reminded me. Was thinking of plus members which is at 26M

Exactly. $250 is a steal and a half. Xbox One S should have still been selling regardless. Guess the whispers were true about the Xbox division never turning a profit. Xbox fans should take it as good news that the brand is here to stay. They're not making that much off it and are still releasing a new console. Microsoft is doing charity work i guess.

Don’t these stalls usually happen before the holidays? Then we get a massive load of new players logging online on the 25 and wonder why they can’t log on to live or psn, doubt it’ll happen to Nintendo’s servers, anyways some hacker group will hop and take claim to it instantly that it was their doing.

It's been making a profit for years

I'm mobile but want to share my feelings towards my X purchase real quick.

Design:

+What a nicely designed piece of tech...its powerful small and sexy especially the Scorpio edition and i dig the weight very premium looking/feeling.
-Don't like the slight grayish tint...needs to be blacker.

Packaging:

+Nicely snug each accessory and i like the black innards of the Scorpio edition.
+Nice HDMI wire as well.
-No headset for chat with a premium console!? Wth

Visuals:

+Gears 4 looks great in HDR and what I'm guessing is scaled 4K.
Star Wars BF2 has me strongly considering a double dip even favor it over the True 4K PC beta i played.
-Gears 3 looks sharp but sloppy in motion.

Audio:

+Gears 4 in Atmos is great! The character talking sounds like real people talking in different areas of my living room wow.
-Sounds get a cracking/sound fading out somewhat when actions get hectic at times.
-No Atmos with Star Wars BF2 makes no sense!

More to come including my score...Will edit after i try the uhdbr player etc.
