There's a new "like" system.

I've implemented a new "Like" system. It offers more choices than the standard "Like." On mobile you'll see pictures rather than the word "Like," etc. There's "Like," "Agree," "Funny," "Winner," and "Informative." I may add a few more options as I think about if they're necessary or not. There's options of neutral and negative selections as well. There's also an option to automatically hide post after it receives too many "Dislikes." I'm not sure I want to go that route but it's an option. I've been toying with this over the past few weeks and I liked it.

It doesn't work to well on phones, its not permanent on there. I do like all the options though.
I just tried every theme on my iPhone and all of the "Like" options are there for me.

Very cool. I like it. Haven't tried it on phones yet though, so David's point may be a concern.

Tried all of them except for the ones that said unsupported. Think those were the top 4, back on my original.
I'll see if there's anything that can be done. Did you add the site to the compatibility list? Try that and see if it clears the issue if you haven't.

don't know what your talking about. Never heard of it don't know how to do it. I do have my phone on desktop version. Will change it later. Getting ready for work. Thanks for the effort to get it working for me.

Thanks. Let me know if changing to mobile version works.

Many times I've read a post and wanted to press a "dislike" or "stupid" button but in the end I can only see that hurting feelings, creating tensions between individuals, and ultimately drawing the line in the sand forcing sides. I's recommend not adding a dislike button.

Good posts should be awarded and bad posts ignored (including being responded too as feeding trolls play right into their desires but that is an solution that never seems to catch on).

actually funny.. and timely. on my previous site, I implemented a dislike/like feature. They are in the midst of a site wide argument now to disable the DISLIKE because people are getting butthurt

Sounds good to me

ok I cannot see your new like features and I did try some of the other themes

ok I can see them if I put my cursor in the area where they are suppose to be

My vote is not to have a dislike button. But if it happens, no worries.

I dislike the idea of a dislike button, too. I can't see the upside to it, and I can see a lot of downside (who wants to see that their post is disliked? how is that going to encourage discussion?).

More than 1 button. Flynn for example I want to give a like and a informative "hit" as he answered my question, and I liked his response.

the debate I had with my staff at the time was that, and the counterpoint I offered to them was I was tired of seeing everyone just "like" stuff using our rep system. I wanted a way for people to express a dislike. However, what it DID was backfire. People used the system to troll, constantly disliking posts just because it was a particular poster, or disliking to be a smart ass. So I disabled it in a lot of forums, left it in some hot debate threads.

In all, the dislike was a disaster to be honest. We couldn't REQUIRE people to say why they disliked something, since it was just a button click like here is for the likes and such. People just troll each other with dislikes, then reports rolled in, and people just couldn't handle it.

I was replaced back in July of 2013, and since then, people are still arguing over the merit of the dislike. If I can offer opinions based on 8 yrs or so of being part of a large forum staff... do not add a dislike. EVER. It just isn't worth the headaches.

^ Completely agree with Illiniguy. That's a good lesson, based on experience. I think it would backfire here, too, for similar reasons. For instance, I think people would just hit "dislike" as a lazy way of discrediting posts they didn't agree with, rather than formulating an actual, public response. Or they'd click "dislike" mainly because they didn't like the poster (which is just a subtle form of personal attack).

I had reservations at first, but I like the new "like" system. It gives you more options to say how you're responding, rather than just "like," which is kind of vague. This system enables you to give more specific feedback, and it helps you understand more specifically how other people are reacting.
