Tomb Raider Definitive Edition

I'm not sure what the framerate was before. I tend to not notice those things, unless there are big dips. There might've been a couple slowdowns on the 360, I don't recall. I usually just shrug them off and forget them, unless they are really persistent.

I like the one on the left better as it still looks more detailed aside from the obvious color difference. The one in the right looks like she had plastic surgery and looks like she's made out of porcelain.

Agreed. There also appears to be crushing colors, and less definition in certain things such as the eyes.

The only way this game is getting 30fps on the PS4 is if they make Lara bald. But if they can really pull it off with TessFX @ 30fps and avoid those terrible 2fps frame dips that plagued the PC version, then f*** YEAH!

I don't get frame rate drops like that and I run the game maxed out with TressFX and 2x2 SSAA....

Tressfx wasn't that demanding. It was funny though that it ran better on Nvidia gpus.

I'm surprised how many people like the old version. Oh well, you spend most of your time looking at her backside anyway. I want to hear about the tushie upgrades.

For those of you that played TR's MP on current gen, was it any good? Or perhaps garbage filler?

I played about 20 minutes of it, if that and found it to be terribly terrible.

But I bought the game for the single player (which I STILL need to finish, lol).

Played about 5 minutes, thought it sucked. I hardly ever enjoy online MP gaming, though, and I heard a lot of bad things about it, so I didn't give it much of a chance. Imo, you buy or rent this game for the SP -- which is pretty good. I voted for it as GOTY, although partly because I hadn't played many of the other candidates.

Thanks for the replies. I can see TR being one of those games you can beat SP in 10 or so hours if you go through it. Maybe 15 if I want to nitpick every area. I was hoping MP was worth playing to extend the value. The only SP type games I buy are Bethesda and Mass Effect type games which can last ages.

In that case, maybe I'll just sit tight and wait for the next gen version to hit the bargain bin for $20-30.

Yeah, I paid $60 for it and regretted it. It was a fun game, but not worth that much. About 10 to 12 hours SP, iirc.

Depends how much GPGPU optimization they do to handle physics tasks. I'm guessing not much since it's a cross-gen cash in port.

The "Definitive version" will most likely be using Tressfx 2.0, which is optimized I am sure. There's no way the game will be running 60 fps consistently though.

Wait for this thing to drop in price.

They're treating people like they're brainless idiots with that price.

I really enjoyed TR on the 360 and I felt it was my game of the year last year - loved the graphics, story, gameplay and considering that it was one of the few games I am engaged in long enough to actually finish.

But I can't see me paying anything to replay it just for the sake of better graphics/framerate. Just like the fun I'm having with DR3 right now, I think I'm going to grow weary of gaming forums if the majority of the talk is about aliasing, baked lighting, and a few 5 dollar words I've seen discussed that supposedly are going to make or break games this gen. One may ask why I even upgraded but that's where the majority of new games are coming and I am a gamer and want the newest stuff.

You're definitely going to hate this generation then. I wouldn't be surprised to see the next COD/BF games release at 900p just so a year later they can sell the "definitive" version that runs 1080p.

lol, too true.

Next gen is here, and we're mostly seeing rehashed games with a new coat of paint on it.

So far all the performance improving patches have been free. Including CoD and AC4.

That's entirely false. AMD GPU's ran TressFX much better. GTX 680's AMD counterpart Radeon 7970 ran TR at ultimate settings and got 10+ frames faster at 1080p. TressFX is after all a AMD technology.

It had nothing to do with being an AMD technology and all to do with Nvidia's decision to sacrifice compute capabilities to make their Tesla units look more attractive. Lack of compute performance = lower TressFX performance.

The old version wasn't flat as a pancake. I don't like A-cups. :p
