Horror-themed Heavy Rain? Count me in. The game looks to be rough right now though. Hopefully the final release will smooth out everything.

24 Minutes of Until Dawn Gameplay

I really like these make your own choice adventure games ala Telltale, Heavy Rain. They're a neat and fun. Gonna keep my eye out for this; I don't have a PS4 but damn if I can't convince a friend to pick this up so I can play it lol.

If this is a horror version of Heavy Rain/Beyond Two Souls, I'll be a happy soul. Is it just me or is horror coming back in a big way? So many of these titles launching in these 2 years.

I saw this earlier today on EP Daily and was really interested. Please tell me this isn't another "game" like Heavy Rain?

So new info from PSX tells us that when you lose a character, there is no respawn or revive. You lose that character for the game playthrough and the story adapts to that.

Hello again, Supermassive here, checking back in to give you another update on Until Dawn.

I hope you’ve all had the chance to see the new trailer we released last week. If you haven’t, head here to check it out. Don’t worry. We’ll wait.

Now that we’re all on the same page, we have another treat for you. We know that not everyone has had the chance to get hands-on with the demo, so today we have the next best thing — a full play-through of it.

We’re thrilled to show something very different to anything you’ve seen so far in Until Dawn. The demo we showed at Gamescom, PAX, and other great events was focused on exploration and moral dilemmas. Today we’re going to look at the fast-paced action side of Until Dawn.

Our action sequences are designed to deliver adrenaline-fuelled, exciting, and yet still cinematic sequences of gameplay, whilst keeping you connected to your game and involved in your character’s fate through the decisions you make and the other actions that you take.

As you watch the play-through, you’ll see that I’m faced with a variety of tests of skill, speed, and judgment. Including one moment where I need to keep the whole pad completely still to avoid Sam being detected. It’s that moment in a horror film that we brace ourselves and hold our breath.

This play-through represents only one of the many different paths possible. Each split-second decision you make as you play could put you on a new path. Any single decision may not be fatal, but your actions could have deadly consequences for your character later in the story.

I hope that you’ve enjoyed this additional peek into Until Dawn, and we’ll speak to you again soon.

Be Very Afraid of Until Dawn
http://www.hardcoregamer.com/2015/05/16/be-very-afraid-of-until-dawn/149032/

Some excerpts:

"'We re-designed, re-built and re-wrote the game so now you have a more mature, darker and fundamentally more terrifying experience on PS4.'"

"Supermassive brought on horror auteurs Larry Fessenden and Graham Reznick (Stake Land, Habit, The Last Winter), who’ve been bringing great independent horror movies to the big and small screen for decades, to give the game a script with a cinematic feel."

"Until Dawn’s narrative is a horror aficionado’s dream. It’s trope-filled from the moment Hollywood actress Hayden Panettiere belts a concerned, “Hello?” down a darkened empty hallway."

"Supermassive boasts that 'seemingly insignificant choices as well as huge moral dilemmas that will question your sense of fairness, good and evil, can have major unforeseen consequences.' From the gameplay we’ve seen so far, those moral decisions haven’t quite played out. It’s mostly been about running or hiding."

"PS4 owners who also have the PlayStation Camera will be tasked with remaining still while the camera tracks the light on the back of the controller, perhaps the best integration I’ve seen yet. Move the light too much, and you’ll alert the killer to your hiding spot."

"Graphically, Until Dawn is one of the most impressive games to date."

"Until Dawn has a rumored release date of June 24, 2015, which, if true, we should expect to hear officially from Sony by the end of E3."

I hadn't heard about that rumored release date. Sounds too early to me. I'd expect they'd want to push it back to the holidays, since Sony's holiday lineup is rather thin and games seem to sell better during that period. Anyhow, we ought to hear more at E3.

New trailer.

Looks okay. I'm not really into horror games, but I might play this, depending on reviews.

Man, I don't know if I can get this yet. I still haven't opened up my BloodBorne yet. Destiny too much content.

I really need to get the Tales games still. Zombies are my favorite thing

Game Informer E3 Hands On Preview impressions:

Choice-Driven Horror Gets Weird And Campy, In A Good Way

The horror genre is filled with examples of failed attempts, and examples of campy horror done right are even rarer in video games. That's why I was so surprised when I finally got a chance to play Supermassive Games' Until Dawn at E3 2015. I went into my hands-on demo with low expectations and decades of horror game/film fandom, but walked away amused and intrigued.
[....]

I left my time with Until Dawn with many questions. What's up with those weird deer? Why does this masked killer want us dead? Could I have saved Emily? Did she really deserve my potential self-sacrifice with that attitude of hers? Is the rest of the game this appealing? I'll have to wait for answers to those queries until the game hits PS4 August 25. But until then, I'm optimistic about the game's bizarre tone and genuinely tense choice-driven moments. Until Dawn is shaping up to be a horrifying adventure game to rival Telltale's The Walking Dead, made even more effective thanks to its convincing visuals.

Here's a 9 minute sample of gameplay:

Very cinematic approach, i.e., lots of cinema with occasional interactive bits.

Not impressed with the story or dialog in this clip. Too much lame sexual innuendo. Then, after they both see something frightening, neither of them even mentions it. Hello? I know they're aiming for a B-movie tone, but that doesn't mean it needs to be junk.

Aside from the stiff animation, the visuals are really nice.

I was a fan of the 70's and 80' slasher movies. So I may get this if it's well received.

Hmmm...sort of interesting. While that is a 9 minute video putting the word "gameplay" in the description is a stretch.

Game is gold. Not sure when the review embargo is up.
