How's the game? I haven't played a Japanese RPG extensively since FFVII. I played a little of VIII but quit quickly and retired the franchise after that. I'm hearing decent things about this game.

It's good, but flawed. FFVII was the last JRPG I played to completion as well (I dabbled in a few since, but never completed). They make you walk far more than you should, but once you open up the map, you can fast travel to found locations. You definitely need patience, but I've had fun regardless. I thought the whole road trip thing was dumb at first, but now I find it endearing.

The voice acting is (as always with JRPGs and Anime) hit or miss and the dialogue is a tad unnatural, but the characters are growing on me regardless, so that says something. I actually enjoy the food and camping mechanics. The game is just different, and that's a good thing.

The combat is very different too, and I actually really like it. It feels like teamwork and has a lot of cool camerawork and animations while fighting. It's actually viable to scan targets and find their weaknesses. It keeps me changing weapons, spells, special moves, etc. Spells are basically magic bombs you make and throw, but can be extremely large and powerful (very cool making a fire bomb that turns to a blizzard that covers the area). Just don't give them to your teammates, as they tend to use them when you are too close. You can change weapons on the fly too, as well as change slots and specials mid-fight. Very cool.

The downside is while there is some fantastic design, animation, and lighting, it's very blurry (on the X1, at least, with frame pacing issues on PS4 and Pro). There is a LOT of (imo) unnecessary walking/ waiting to park/ long drives/ etc. There are times when the game ignores my inputs. Lots of filler (though I don't mind) side quests and the like. The imperial troops dropping in in the middle of a battle, while kinda cool in throwing you off guard, can be annoying if it's a hard fight already.

I bought it not expecting to love it, but I can't put it down, lol. Hope that helps.

So I created an RSI account. Turned out the two step authenticator. Downloaded the app. Used the app's QR scanner to scan the laptop screen to auto-load my information into the app. And now I'm downloading the game. $35 entry fee for it isn't bad. I love how QR codes and two step authenticators exist in out world. It's basically futuristic all the "convenience tech" we have now.

Star Citizen? I tried it when they had a week trial and ran like garbage on my PC at the time. I've upgraded my GPU since then so might check it out again if they have another trial. Probably won't bother buying it until at least Squadron 42 is done.

Man, FF XV is crack to me right now! 28hours in, and I'm on act 4!

I am Finally able to take out those iron demons at night. If the dialogue and voice acting were better, it would be incredible. Loving the game! I'm even doing the fishing!

I will say that taking away my car at ANY point is bulls***, though, and those electric puma/cheeta things...

Finished the Witcher, booted up the second on my laptop briefly and it ran like total ass. Will probably try to see how much I can downgrade the settings to see if I can get it playable at some point, and if not I'm contemplating just playing through on the easiest mode to get through it so I can get to the third one on the XB1. Started a playthrough on Civ V since I finally got G&K since it was obnoxiously cheap on the Steam Winter sale, but it was a completely unfocused game - I wanted to try out the new culture victory, but I drew Korea, so I futzed around to eventually get a religion and started culturing but Arabia's out-religioned me by a mile. I went toward science instead (as I would have from the start if I were playing to the Civ) and I've got a five to six tech lead on most of the other civs (some even more than that) and finished the Apollo project first and got the first piece or two of it assembled, but haven't yet felt like trying to grind out the victory (and it's late enough I'm not sure if it'll finish in time).

Got into the second disc now of Lost Odyssey <edit: not Infinite Undiscovery> - without being too spoilery, I now have the sixth character, and left the town with all the Kelolon statues to go do the next plot stuff, though I've mostly just been grinding skill points in the entrance b/c of the convenient save point. Definitely enjoying the game. Managed to probably get 10-12 hours of playtime this weekend, so that was a bonus.

Thanks for your feedback Frozpot. I'll try it out once I finish Dark Souls 3...if I can finish it before the launch of Mass Effect. This game is still consuming my life.

Finished: Momodora - Reverie Under the Moonlight (PC), Wolfenstein Old Blood (PC), Shadow Tactics (PC), Jak II (PS3)

Playing: Return to Castle Wolfenstein (PC), Jak III (PS3), Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty (PS3)

I'm loving Bravely Default. Has been a long time since I've played a turn-based JRPG. While art style is great, still hoping the Switch will bring more games like this with greater production values.

I'm really liking the Wolfenstein series. Defintely in my top 10 FPS of all time. I'm hoping Raven Software releases a digital copy of Wolfenstein 2009 (either Steam or GOG) because a used copy is like $40+ on Amazon.

Finished: Return to Castle Wolfenstein (PC), Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty (PS3)

Playing: Jak III (PS3), Owlboy (PC), Shantae and The Pirate's Curse (PC)

Bahahaha! Hello Neighbour is kind of terrifying.

I still can't get into that f***ing basement! This game would be suited for VR!

Finished Kings Quest, discovered that the Epilogue chapter was out.
Think next game I will start on is The Last Guardian.

Damn I only played the first chapter but absolutely loved that game. Need to finish it sometime.

Finished: Jak III (PS3) & Shantae and The Pirate's Curse (PC)

Playing: Owlboy (PC), The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (PC), Steamworld Heist (PS4)

The Last Guardian and Dark souls 3 Ashes of Ariandel (pc)

ME3. About to do The Citadel dlc and leave it there and pretend that's the real ending.

No need to go back to earth.

Then to some Sherlock Holmes

Finished Everybody's Gone to the Rapture on PS4. Almost put me in a coma.

Back on Gears 4 now. The blood is flowing again.

Actually finally broke down and started playing Star Wars: The Old Republic. I'm not an MMO guy at all, but this is enough like KOTOR:3 that I figured it's worth a shot, and it plays fine enough on my laptop so it's taken over the laptop time for now. I'm enjoying it so far, but I'm only through the first planet of my first class story, so we'll see.

That is one game I wish would come to consoles. I was a huge KOTOR fan and have played some MMO's in my day.

All my modern gaming has been put on hold because of Pacman and Mrs. Pacman. Lol. Loved them as a young arcade fan. Still addictive as hell.

Some Gears 4 and Witcher 3 sprinkled in.

Black Ops BC is sweet. Great game and no hackers. 20,000 online gamers were logged in in the afternoon.

But make note, since re-buying this game last year, I think the overall talent pool is a bit better than when the game was popular 5-6 years ago as it seems most gamers are experienced and trend to veteran fans of the game. Not too many split screeners anymore, which were easy pickings.

Getting chopper gunner now takes some effort.

Just finished the Owlboy. One of the best indie games Ive played. I will probably re-purchased it again if release on PS4.

Man I have been in a zone for the past 4 months or so. I think I completed about 25 games from my backlogs (300+). Ever since I moved closer to work/near friends, my drive time to work and home went from 2 hours (LA Traffic is fking horrible) a few months ago to 20 minutes since August. With the extra times I have = sleep late and no need to wake up early before the traffic hits = more time to play for me. My game time was 9pm till 11ish pm. Now 9pm till 1am or whenever I'm about to knock out.

Let me calculate:
4 months = 25 games
12 months / 4 months = 3 x 25 games = 75 games completed per year
300 games / 75 = 4 years that is if I stop buying. I doubt it though.

Playing: The Legend of Heroes Trails in the Sky (PC), The Metal Gear Solid V: Phanton Pain (PS4)

Oddly enough the last year my drive time has been cut in half at least, but I don't feel like I've been gaming more than before. Although with the Nioh demo I played that for probably close to 10 hours alone this weekend plus a couple nights of other stuff with friends.

I am close to completing Gears 4. I would say I have about half hour left max, it's been worth the purchase of the S alone in terms of the graphics.

I am still chopping away at BLOPS 3 also on the pro.

Once Gears is complete I am turning my attention back to Metro Redux on the XB1.

It is playing surprisingly well on my laptop, which isn't exactly a gaming laptop (though it does have a GPU card in addition to the APU, it's not exactly a powerhouse). With the lowest settings, it's running 1080p with usually on the order of 110 FPS on the counter. I could screw around to get prettier graphics without dipping too much, but I'm not sure I care enough since it looks good enough. I still need to go back to the Witcher 2 at some point to see if I can reduce settings enough to get it playable, but I got that with Games With Gold some time back too so I may just hold off and play it and Witcher 3 on the XB1 instead, once I'm done with Lost Odyssey (and probably by the time I finish that, Mass Effect:Andromeda).

How is Nioh? As both a Ninja Gaiden and Dark Souls fan, it seems up my alley.
