Console wars happen all the time. One side of the fanbase will always get their jimmies rustled if the other's console outsells theirs. In a story posted by games industry international, they quote Colin Sebastian, "While many forecasts still give an edge to Sony/PS4 in North America sales, we continue to expect similar or even slightly higher sales of Xbox One by the end of the launch window," Sebastian said. This isn't the first time Sebastian has predicted the Xbox One would outsell the PlayStation 4. At first Sebastian said the Xbox One would outsell the PlayStation 4 by 3-1. He's obviously backed down quite a bit as it's now "slightly higher sales of Xbox One."

We will see how this all unfolds in the next couple of months. While Sebastian be correct? Will he be completely off? The fact that he's now reduced it to "slightly" covers himself far better than his earlier 3-1 prediction. Time will tell. I do know that one faction of fanboys will be gloating at the outcome... No matter how slight the difference is.

Even of they are even MS still wins. Sony has lost so much market share since the Deuce.

That point is irrelevent, seeing as that so called "lost market share" was not gained by any other console. That market share was lost simply because a good portion of them are not gamers anymore....they, you know....got older.

If Sony hadn't decided to drop its camera to get the price to $399 I'd be more inclined to believe the 3-1 difference, now though, I think the XB1 will sell slightly better than the PS4. The XB1 has regained a ton o' ground lately.

Hmmm, bummer.

I'm probably in the minority but I'm an Xbox gamer who wants the PS4 to sell a bit better than the XB1 so that MS will hopefully try harder in the game department, maybe come out with more 1st party exclusives etc, offer more deals and all that.

If they continue to sell without any set back everything just stays status quo.

I thought MS was a better games company back on the OG Xbox when they were trying really hard to get their own 1st party games.

Fanboys can get their knickers untwisted, IF the X1 sells more than the PS4 it will have nothing to do with which is more popular or better or whatever, and everything to do with supply. Microsoft just has a better chance of having more units built during the launch window than Sony, if the PS4 ends up selling out then MS will pick up sales from the stock out.

Plainview trolling again...

Console sale wars be starting early. The gaming media and Media as a whole really should try to refrain such articles. Other than the obvious cheap site clicks it really offers nothing of any real value to the masses.

Indeed.

I wouldn't be surprised though. They did it this gen. Almost everyone I know that has an Xbox 360 is going forward again with the X1.

Not surprising, just lowering his prediction to cover his ass. Most people will buy either console based on their exclusives and friends lists anyways.

Hmm, based on the article it seems like he's only talking about the launch window/the next 2-3 months. Both consoles should sell out or come close to over this time period.

The 'winner' is going to be the console maker that has the best supply chain and pump out the most units.

Personally, I plan on getting both consoles and don't care which one 'wins' or 'loses'. Both seem like great platforms and I know I will enjoy both.

Unless Sony starts showing some games to get excited about, which I'm sure they will, I'd agree with this article.

And I'll also guess that within 2 years, MS will be outselling Sony by a 3-2 ratio. I think their gamble with trying to win the casual crowd is going to pay off tremendously, but it'll take a little while to recover from the bad PR. Once both systems are out in the wild, they will speak for themselves, and as of right now (based on everything we've actually SEEN for both systems, and what has been officially announced), I think the X1 is the more appealing product.

PS 2 - 155 million
Xbox - 24 million
GameCube - 21 million
Total - 200 million

Triple - 78 million
360 - 80 million
Wii - 100 million
Total - 258 million

58 million more consoles sold this gen than last. So more consoles were sold and they sold less this gen than last so yes, they indeed lost market share.

Fail
Ps3 is over 80 million

Well it's a prediction for North America only.

No way MS has any sort of early lead worldwide, but there's a possibility that overall in NA despite internet backlash they could still outsell Sony.

Not sure if Sony finally out-pacing MS in NA NPD is indicative of anything though.

And LOL, Qbert. Just not much else to say.. both of their competitors had fairly large increses in sales this gen.. Sony had a decrease...

2 + 2 = Qbert just 100% verified how pointless he is in these conversations. COD SELLS THE SAME TOO!

The law of averages and the various companies reputations dictates that at least one of the companies will screw up massively in 2014. The one that does will be behind for the rest of the generation.

oh, there are games I'm excited about. But they're all multiplatform! XD

I mean, I want InFamous and Killzone, but I don't think either one is really a system-seller. The only thing that has me firmly in Sony's camp is that they're going to have more RPGs than Microsoft, because Microsoft doesn't seem to care about that genre. oh, and Quantic Dream.

Neither company has shown me an exclusive I can't live without.

Not the same...because you're looking at it as if 258 million is different households. We all know that most of them 360 owners also have a PS3.

Notice the number of Gamecubes compared to Wii. Notice the numbers of PS3/360 compared to PS2/xbox. It isn't so much a "lost market share" but rather a changing of market.

PS2 came out 13 years ago. Many of those gamers have moved on. Hell, there's plenty of launch 360 gamers that have moved on. It's not just a different generation of consoles, but we're going to start seeing a different generation of gamers. We're already seeing a large number of gamers becoming more casual gamers, and many of those PS2 era gamers have long since become parents and possibly moved on to casual games for their families.

You're looking at the above numbers as if they're unique numbers and there has been an increase in gamers, when it could be the opposite. Either way, none of us knows. The same way I can't sit here and say "who" owns these consoles, neither can anyone say that marketshare was lost, which insinuates that PS2 era gamers moved over to 360......we don't know that.

Dude....did I say otherwise?

What I'm saying is that we don't know who the 360 masses are. Do you? Hell, many 360/PS3 owners that I know personally, never owned a PS2....nor the original Xbox.

S2 came out 13 years ago. Many of those gamers have moved on.

Yes, moved on to the Wii/360. :360::banana:

I think the only real and fair conclusion, though I hate being real and fair in a thread so patently screaming from consoletrolls, is that the PS2 was clearly and undeniably the big dog of that generation and the competition was picking up the scraps. The PSWii60 generation saw all three competitors have strong, strong showings and really, kudos to all three of them for delivering something that clearly people valued.

I a perfect world, a system will sell the most consoles and have the best games.

But at this point, it seems PS4 will sell more (assuming all those polls are true), while X1 is showing better games and features.

I'll take X1.

I'd be surprised if a higher-priced console outsold a lower-priced one. I think sales will depend more on supply more than demand, in the short run.

But stack me right beside all the other analysts with their predictions, equally useless. What does Pachter think?

I'm sure many PS2 gamers got the 36o....and many more of them, moved on to the Wii.....and many others....simply moved on.

People just need to use a little common sense in thinking here. As the young gamers move on, they make way for a new generation of gamers, and these new gamers, went to the 360.
