does anyone know the range of the controller? The product page lists it as 30 ft but the support page for controller disconnects says it's only designed to work 19.2 feet from the Xbox. I have a central media closet where all my electronics are stored and never had any problems with the 360 controller dropping out when I played in my theater room or my bedroom. I figured the Xbox One controller would be even better but it has been impossible to play with the controller dropping out every few seconds, I have tried new batteries and everything else I could think of but it will not stay connected. Has anyone else had this problem?

Wow, 19 feet, that's 5,7 meters. !!
I don't think there's that many playing games 5,7 meters away from their console. I'm looking forward to follow this thread :-)

Maybe it is a typo on the support page, I don't know, I just don't understand why the new controller would have less range and be dropping out on me, I am hoping maybe it is just a bad controller because I love the system and would really like to be able to play it.

**update**

seems people are having the same issue on the offical xbox forums, they seem to think it is related to day one edition which mine is, I am going to go buy a different controller and try that, I will keep this thread updated with my results.

I have two controllers, the Day one edition and one I picked up from Game stop. The Game stop controller is the one that disconnects, I returned it for a new one and the new controller disconnects still!

So is this a controller issue? Console issue? Software or hardware issue? I certainly hope it is not a console hardware issue. I really really do.

For anyone who wants to follow along.

OP, can you change your title to something like "XBox one controller intermittently disconnects?"

I hope it is not hardware either because it took me three days to install my games on my 1.5 meg dsl and I don't want to have to do that again, lol. According to the thread on xbox.com it looks like nobody knows for sure what the problem is, some say it's the xbox and some say it's the controller, I really don't want to drop the money on a new controller and have the same problem with it. I guess when I get home today I will open up a support ticket and see where that leads me.

I am curious if getting a new console would resolve anything at all. I have a feeling it is either a batch of bad controllers or some kind of software issue. I would think that if it is a bad console then neither of my controllers would work but I have one controller does work and the other doesn't.

Following the threads over on the xbox forums its looking more and more like its a controller issue not an Xbox issue. There are reports of taking a faulty controller to a friends house with a known working console and the controller still being crappy. I am going to replace my controller for a third time and see how it goes.

I have a similar problem. My controller will lose pairing with the xbox even when I am like 6 ft from it with a clear view. I have a day one controller and an extra controller and both do it. So far I tried doing the hard system reset, turning off my wireless router, and turning off the daylight sensor on my tv, and moving the location of my xbox one and nothing has solved it. I am guessing there is something defective if the rf receiver on some consoles maybe? I need to call up ms when i have time to get a replacement.

well the new controller I bought from Walmart is doing the same thing, there went 65 more dollars down the toilet. I don't know what to do because by the time I get home from work support is closed. Hope this gets fixed soon.

Yea just return the controller.

I have one controller that works and one that doesn't. I don't to just return the Xbox if it isn't a console problem. Wish Microsoft would say something about the issue

I am not sure what I just did but I registered my console at the myservice.xbox.com site and then chose problem with device, picked my xbox one, chose other and then clicked the option that my device will need to be replaced. After that I put my info in and it says they are shipping me a new xbox and it should be here early next week, I just have to put my old one in the box the new one comes in and return it. I never even talked to tech support so it seemed a little too easy to me but I will take it. My problem is either one of three things 1. The new xbox one controller has a significantly shorter range than the 360 controller did. 2. My xbox one is defective or 3. The day one controller that came with my system and the one I bought at walmart are both defective. At this point I am hoping it is number two, it will take me two weeks to download my games again but but at least I will be able to play them :). Please keep me updated on your issue and if it gets resolved.

The site didn't work for me so I used chat support which got me through to phone support. Same outcome though. Getting sent a new console.

Has anyone bought an additional controller to go along with their day one controller? If so did you happen to notice that the plastic on the day one controller is darker and the thumbsticks are a little looser?

Yes and the D-pad is chrome rather than black plastic.

I noticed the D pad as well. Thought it was a nice touch. Just surprised they used a different plastic for the case

Their service website started working again today, so I have a new one on the way.

Received my replacement console and at first I thought that the problem was gone but then the dropouts started again. It appears that there is either a design flaw with the controllers or the Xbox One just doesn't work for my configuration which is odd because the 360 works perfectly in the same conditions. I can only hope there will be some sort of fix or I guess I will just have to sit this generation out. Curious why they just didn't use bluetooth.

Relocate your console and try again. At this point it's obvious you have something interfering with your controllers.

My console is under my 50" LED TV next to a Xfinity DVR, Roku, Apple TV and Wii and I have no issues.

It's not interference, I have turned everything off and still have the same problem. I have no option to relocate my console since every TV is mounted on the wall and is wired back to the av closet so I am just out of luck lol.

Maybe buy a little stand or something for the X1 so you can put it somewhere else? Seems like a better solution than sitting the generation out.

that was just my frustration talking, I will find a way even if I have to rewire, I saw on the avs forum where someone had run two long hdmi cables to the front of their projection screen and mounted a small shelf for the Xbox in order to get kinect working, hate to drop that kind of money but you got to do what you got to do lol

It's possible that you got yet another bad console. I've read on the Xbox forums of people having success replacing their console. I will get my replacement on Tuesday and will let you know if it resolves my issue.

it is possible, I hope your new console fixes your issue and everything works as advertised.

Tracking number says I should get the console today. I will play it heavily tonight and see if I get any drop outs. If all is good I would recommend calling MS and getting the replacement replaced.
