Xbox One X

Best thing about the dasboard on the Xbox One isn't the dashboard. The guide is where it's at. If you don't care about mixer or the community feed, use the guide. Nothing is faster. Access to friends, chat, pinned and recent games, achievements, settings, Xbox store, apps, messages, broadcasts. Response time is instant. I never have to use my dashboard anymore thanks to the guide. It blows away the dasboard on both consoles. Once you start to rely on it you won't go back to the dash.

What's the guide?

Try coming out of the browser to a game on Pro. It comes to a crawl.
The only sluggishness I experience on X is on the MS store where tiles take forever to load in when browsing for games. But that has improved it seems.

Yes the store on the X is really bad, I've actually had it crash quite a few times.

Getting into EA access takes a long time too and it's never responsive enough, it sticks a lot so I'll think I'm clicking on something then two or three seconds later it'll move over to another menu and then register the click. It's frustrating as hell lol.

EA Access is awful... it is a laggy, inconsistent mess

Yeah this and get to pins using the right trigger once. I really don’t use much else.

i am abit worried that will mean cutting back on effect/scale

i was ok with 30fps campaign and 60fps multiplayer

It’s releasing in 2019 so my strong belief is they are going to build this for a much higher end machine and scale down the effects on the X. When Scarlett comes out, there will be an increase in textures and effects with the campaign maintaining 60fps so that people can co-op at a consistent frame rate across both consoles.

I love the service, the app is a POS.

Yeah the service is fine, I probably won't renew because I'm not really playing any games from it but the value is there for people who want to play those games, the app is awful.

I have trying to let all Xbox One Prey fans know that Xbox One Prey is now Xbox One X enhanced. It launched at the night of E3 with the DLC and free new game modes. It is official at Xbox.com. Prey runs at much higher resolution and is clearer and better looking. No one at Bethesda or Arkane seems to be promoting this though. I went to forums and social media to spread the word. If Prey gets a serious sales spike, and many copies of Prey:Mooncrash sell, I am hoping there could be a Prey 2.

The resolution boost is free, so this is great news if you own Prey and an Xbox One X already.

Metro Exodus Dev: Xbox One X Is A Beast, Game’s Native 4K Resolution Is Testament To That
4A Games not currently in position to confirm 60fps yet.

Microsoft has had its share of misfortunes over the past few years and even though the company has shown promise of correcting course, no one can deny how well the Xbox One X panned out. Touted as the most powerful console ever prior to release, the Xbox One X has been the closest to 4K gaming. What does the future hold for the platform?
For starters, 4A Games’ Metro Exodus will take advantage of the system. Koch Media’s head of global brand management Huw Beynon was asked by GamingBolt at E3 2018 about specific Xbox One X enhancements that could be expected. Naturally the question turned to whether 4K resolution and 60 frames per second would be coming to Xbox One. We already know that native 4K is supported.
Beynon noted that fps and performance is yet to be decided so a 60fps mode is definitely not out of the question at this point, “We have confirmed that we’re going to hit 4K. I don’t think we’re in a position to confirm our performance target at the moment. It’s a little early in development for that.”
As for how the console fares from a development perspective, Beynon said, “That’s probably something I want my CTO software engineer to answer. But yes, it’s a beast. The fact that you can get [native] 4K is a testament to how powerful it is.”
Metro Exodus is out on February 22nd 2019 after being delayed from Fall 2018. It will be heading to Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Looks like another site did a more in depth analysis on FC5 than digital foundry did, turns out that all of the console versions use dynamic resolution. It does hit native 4K often on the One X but it also drops, just like it hits native 1600p on the PS4 Pro but also drops, DF claimed that the games ran at those native resolutions but said nothing about any drops. Still a pretty impressive accomplishment by the developer but DF seems to have dropped the ball a bit on their analysis, they need to spend more time with open world games when reporting on this stuff IMO.

i must say i am kinda disappointed at how pretty much no 3rd party is using 4k textures so that ability of Xbox One X goes to waste

I have to agree with this very much, VERY few games period seem to be utilizing that extra 4GB of RAM for higher res assets which is kinda silly to me seeing as having higher res assets is a very negligible hit on GPU, you really just need the extra VRAM, which, the Xbox One X does have.

Cerny said the reason they didn't add more memory to the PS4 Pro (other than the additional 1GB) was that it costs a lot of money (million$) to make those higher end textures and not all developers even make them. I know the common theory is "they start with 4K and port down" but if that were the case these devs/pubs would be using them on the One X. So it's either they don't actually have higher end assets to begin with or there is something else involved that keeps them from being able to implement them. I agree it's a bummer that not all games have them but I didn't expect them to either based on Cerny's comments.

I figured that the 4K textures would already be their from the PC versions. They must be still having issues even with the extra ram.

That or maybe they never created anything higher res than what they are already putting in the console version of a particular game. Just allowing a higher resolution already makes the texture look better by default anyway. I guess it all depends on what they did or didn't create for the PC version, that or there is some other limitation. Being that MS has higher end assets for some of their games it makes me think it's more that the devs just haven't created them to begin with.

Having 4K textures is different from rendering 4K textures. Majority of these games have 4K textures but they use dynamic resolution because the engines probably are not able to handle those all the time.

I for one know this is BS with several games, Fallout 4, Rainbow Six Siege, Ghost Recon Wildlands, just to name a few. The first 2 games have high res texture packs on PC that are not included in their enhanced console versions and the 3rd has much higher res textures on PC, they only upgraded terrain textures on the One X version of the game.

RB6 siege got enhanced?

Yes indeed, I know it was a very quiet enhancement.

XBOX ONE X AND PLAYSTATION 4 PRO SUPPORT
We have increased the resolution to 1728p on the Xbox One X, and 1440p on the PlayStation 4 Pro, while maintaining 50% render scaling (same as before). We are currently working on dynamically increasing the render scaling when performance allows it. This will allow for better render quality in low-complexity scenes, while maintaining 60 fps at all times by adjusting the render scaling dynamically. We do not have an ETA for when this additional dynamic render scaling will be implemented.

Then there is another limitation with the One X that doesn't allow the devs of these games to use the assets, they wouldn't just not do it if they had them ready and the game would run fine. Don't compare what PC's do to consoles in this regard either, don't forget the GPU's are ending up having to compensate at times for the weak CPU's in these machines. Remember people talking about how "AF is basically free" yet the base consoles run it at 1/4 of what most PC games do?

Either that or its just too much work for very minimal gain if really any, on niche consoles.

Could be, which is sad but that is the risk I guess with buying a $500 machine that's going to have the smallest installed base out of any modern console until the next more powerful machine comes out.

It just seems like if they are going to take the time to upgrade the game at all for the One X they'd use whatever was at their disposal. If the assets are already created and will run on the console it seems like it'd be more cost efficient to put them in, why spend millions creating textures and then only put them out there for people with high end PC's if their is a console that can run them too? seems like they'd get more bang for their buck by using them if they could.

You never hear about EA Access running slow on the PS4 though.

relevance? that the devs can't seem to optimize it on the x?

Yep, you have convinced me...the PS4 is far superior. lol

Sorry to be a smart ass, but this is an xbox thread, and in no manner ever did I say "wow, the EA ACCESS app is a buggy mess on the X, but how does it compare to the PS4 guys?"

It is odd tho that one system the app is laggy and pauses a lot, and the other not.
