Xbox One X

Dude God of War is a far better game than Ryse, and I really enjoyed that game. The scope and quality makes Ryse look like childs play.

The fact remains that MS cannot yet compete with the polish of Sonys first party offerings. I say this as an Xbox guy. We should be putting (and are) pressure on MS to up their game, not make excuses for them.
I think Gears 4 is the exception and offers more longevity than most PlayStation exclusives.

Being that it has MP and GoW and Spider-Man do not you could have a point there but when comparing single player quality Gears 4 is awful.

Hard disagree here. Microsoft needs to form their own brand of games - games that speak Xbox. Not Sony games on Xbox.

I have all the systems, and I’ve been playing my PS4 more than anything lately. I agree with you for the most part. I spend a lot of time with MP games, and it has been fun getting back into some solid SP games. If I add Mario and Zelda to that, it’s been a great year or so for SP gaming.

I think MS is addressing this, it just takes time. IMO they got a little lazy after the success of the 360 (like Sony did with PS3 after PS 2), misread the future, and screwed up the X1 launch pretty badly. So they’ve been fixing all their mistakes one by one.

The new studio acquisitions are a good start, (and I’m hearing there might be more), PG games hiring close to 150 new people to work on their new game...lots of stuff going in the right direction. I’ve got a friend who recently got hired at a big studio in the Northwest, and I’m only hearing positive things :)

Lots of resources and risk go into new IPs, so they are moving forward slowly. I think there is a lot of potential there, but for the immediate future, not so much. Fingers crossed.

Gears of War 4 is far from awful. I enjoyed Gears of War 4 but it does not compare single player wise to the games Jinca said.

awful?
We can't be playing the same game.

The story was awful IMO and to top it off they are making the least likeable character from Gears 4 the star of Gears 5 :( Gears comes across as a rushed game, something that was done by a team who didn't know what they really had and being that it was that studios first time working with the franchise it's not surprising. That's ok though, Halo 5's campaign was even worse. MS just doesn't have the right people running the story driven elements of their games.

Kait is is way more likeable than JD. JD was generic and boring AF. It also makes sense that the story focuses on her for Gears 5. The team that made Gears kept it safe. If they didn't know what they were doing it would've been a bad game, which it wasn't. It's definitely not awful and certainly not the worst Gears that's been released. I actually like where Gears is headed. The new team proved they could pull of Gears..now they need to go beyond.

Halo 5's campaign was way too short, but it wasn't bad at all. When the credits roll you ask yourself, "that's it?"and not "what were they doing?". I didnt get a lack of Chief as much as other people cried about on the net. There was some wierd and safe stuff in there ( mainly to protect Chief) but, again..the story delivery wasnt bad. Both games suffer in that that they kept their story campaigns safe and formulaic. They both need to go big: Halo on making a wholesome well rounded story and Gears on keeping the experience fresh with less repeat encounters.

None of the characters in Gears 4 were likeable to be honest but she was by far the worst IMO, no personality at all.

Halo 5 wasn't just too short, the ad campaign made it look like it was going to be some big showdown between MC and the other guy, the "fight" that we got was ridiculous. It was nothing like what they advertised it to be, the story made no sense and it just seemed like they lacked any cohesive vision. MS needs to find people who can put a campaign together that not only makes sense but actually appeals to more than just the hardcore fans that will forgive almost any sin.

I agree that the fight between Locke (the other guy?) and Master Chief was ridiculous and cringe, especially how weird it was to have the rest of team Osiris just stand there and watch. Oni painted Chief as a traitor is what I got from the ad campaign and it was in line with the game. I don't know what else you expected from that. The rest of the story was pretty straight forward..don't know what didn't make sense to you about the rest of the story.

I don't know what you dislike about Kait but her and Del were the best additions to Gears to be honest. It's not like Cole and Baird made Gears Shakespear or were more likeable...well..everyone loves Cole but he I felt he was more like a charicature than a character, but then again most of the original 4 are and it worked (for a while, at least). I'm not so sure it would work anymore. Kait's uncle for example was a very typical Gears character.

The general opinion is that the new gears campaign was good, haven't heard any credible person say otherwise tbh. Halo 5 campaign was pretty meh story wise and many expressed that opinion but the levels were up to halo standards so it's not right to say the campaign was crap imo.
Have no problem that they focus on that woman in new gears, she was okay in gears4 and seems to have made some gains as a character. JD looks badass now too. Game will get great reviews I'm sure.

Don't bother. He worships his PS. Sony can do no wrong.

JD sucks and fighting the robots sucked. Other than that, Gears 5 was a great game. And I'm so glad Kait's story arc will be the centerpiece of Gears 5. I really hope she is the main character.

The ad campaign made it look like MC was a traitor and that we'd see a big fight between him and Locke, didn't happen.

As far as Gears and the female character she was boring and predictable. Just throwing a girl in to do it doesn't make it a good move, she was awful.

halo 5's story is a complete misfire and best ignored.

Now, gears 4 I thought was totally inoffensive. The style of the new characters (and of course kait in particular) sort of looked hipstery and too real-life modern, but they seem to have done away with that in 5 as far as attire. Again for kait in particular, the drama from her was lame but anyone could have fit that profile, which is also a problem. Characters on the same side don't have to fight to create a compelling narrative. Most people in real life tend to stow personal s*** like that until after the life threatening activities are over.

anyway while I'm on the topic, I like how the relationships appear to have changed between the characters from 4. JD's kinda scary and I'd love to get that backstory to what we saw in the E3 trailer, but also very much interested in the story they appear to be aiming for. Taking forgotten elements from gears 2 is perfect for me. I always thought 2 had the best plot threads, though the biggest one for me (the human/locust connection with the sires and the new hope facility) was left aside. They hinted at such a connection further in the queens dialogue in 3, but everyone in-game seemed to actively ignore her. (sidenote: she had some good points about how messed up their situation was. Dragged into a war the humans started and suffering genocide for the crime of some really aggressive self defense is a pretty raw deal)

So, eager to see what happens from all that.

Dynamic resolution scaling isn't native.

Headlines like that actually hurt the One X, the game looks great as is and is the best looking console version you can get but when they use the resolution you get when looking at the sky with nothing else going on in the headline it makes the actual resolution you get when doing anything in the game sound less impressive. It's stupid and they shouldn't be doing that kind of crap just for clicks, sadly most people only read the headlines these days and those people are going to go around repeating that and spreading misinformation or looking stupid when the truth is pointed out to them.
