Xbox One X

The vast majority of PS4 titles are 1080p and yes some are dynamic and a few are 900p but those games are the exception not the rule and ALL PS4 Pro titles a4K, at least 1080p as it is mandated, native 4K at all times is not the vast majority of One X games so it's kind of a silly comparison to make. You could make it with the Xbox One if you want, that console had a lot of games that were 900p and some that were 720p.

The jury is not out on the One X, we know it's going to get a mix of native 4K, dynamic resolution, checkerboard rendering and also games that are just up scaled from other resolutions. It's not a knock on the machine it's just the reality of where we are when it comes to tech that can be put into a console. The One X is never going to be an always 4K machine and that's fine, it's still the most powerful console you can buy today.
Jinca, there will never be a console that plays EVERY game at 4K. The X has the power to play every game at 4K but not every Dev is going to prioritize res over performance, or res over visual fidelity via assets or frames. That's not going to happen with Sony or Microsofts new consoles. Again, that's a Dev choice, creative choice.

What the X is doing is really incredible for the price. I don't think anyone couldve done it better. The X is the only real 4K console. Just facts. What you're waiting for will never happen. Not EVERY GAME.

No it doesn't have the power to play every game at 4K.

Neo Geo system was way more powerful in its time than Xbox One X.

Forza Horizon 3 Xbox One X Enhanced today.

Yes there will be a console that plays every game in 4K it's just going to be a few more years before we get there. The One X mostly runs 1st party games originally designed to run on a 1.31 TF GPU at 4K all the time, there are other games that hit it but they usually use dynamic scaling (not always) but there will be a time when 4K is the focus. I've said a hundred times the One X is a great value for the money, I won't say that nobody else could have done it because clearly anyone who put out a console in late 2017 could have as the tech was available. MS didn't pull off some miracle here they just put out what could have worked in a console form factor at a fair price, a high price but a fair one. They didn't create the tech in the machine that was AMD for the most part.

It's been out for almost exactly 2 months, and the jury isn't out? I mean, it's obviously not going to get every title in native 4K, but neither should it to be called a 4K machine, imo. I'd be annoyed if they demanded developers to hit 4K against their wishes. Developers are still coming out and saying that the console is more powerful than the dev kits, so we are still getting patches on top of patches.

You are really getting into semantics with past consoles vs this one, which is way more analog than you are admitting, but they are correct that the details don't being here. Point being, that there will never be a true 4K machine, by your pie in the sky definition. Even next gen will probably not mandate always 4K. You can bank on it.

Precisely. There's never been a console that delivers one solid resolution or performance with every game, and there will never be -- not unless Microsoft or Sony dictate that all games MUST be said resolution. That won't happen either.

What we'll get is what we've always had: consoles deliver a many number in native games but not all. Its the machine that's hitting that resolution or performance the most (or as close to what you can get) that will be claimed a 4K machine or 1080p machine. Ps4 was obviously more powerful with more 1080p games than the competition. The X hits 4K more often so it's clearly able to determine the definition of a 4K console since no other device from the big 3 can state the same.

With that, I'm done on this topic. Who wants pizza?!

Yeah 4K in every game next gen still won't be possible. Some of you guys need to Google 4K capable PC gpus and consider the power and cost differences.

Not only that but even a 1080ti can't do 4K all the time unless you drop settings and the power difference between that card and the console equivalent is generational.

Thought this was interesting RE: Playgrounds future projects

For us, as a studio, the power of the Xbox One X, as well as its ease of development and straightforward compatibility across the Xbox One family of devices, has made it the lead development platform for the new title we’re currently working on. This means a couple of things. First, it means we’re developing from the ground up to take advantage of the Xbox One X’s enormous graphical horsepower, an approach which will continue to yield massive advances in visual quality. Secondly, though, it also means you’ll see improvements on Xbox One and Xbox One S as a result – we find that there’s a trickle-down effect when you develop for the most powerful hardware which brings improvements even on the less powerful machines.

So they will lead with the Xbox One X, then port to PC? That seems odd. Wouldn't it be better to start on PC?

I would expect the next Xbox to target 8K native. Can't play the 4K hand again. But yes, not every game will hit that. 1080p should be a distant memory though.

wouldn't that apply to both systems though? Xone is certainly not giving me "True 4k gaming without compromise" as promised by MS

When you have to actually go out and dig up the carcass to beat the dead horse, it's time to LET. IT. GO.

XBOX ONE X enhanced!! Another beautiful Native 4K title for the salty forum contributors. :hehe:

i opened horizon 3 when i came home, was dissappointed that it looked very jaggy and not as sharp as i thought it would look... was like did they disable AA to get 4k or something?

loaded up just now and its downloading the update  :bang:

f***ing The Living Tribunal had to post RIGHT when you were listing both parts. WAY TO BE A TEAM PLAYER!
Lol, I had the second half coppied to clipboard and ready to go. I pulled the second trigger less than 3 seconds later and I got an error message stating that I could not post twice within 6 seconds. Silly rule, but I get why it's there. I was still surprised to see another post already there a few seconds after that. Yes, it totally messes with my OCD. I wouldn't have blamed him, but he's a mod, so he probably did it on purpose with his mod powers.

^^^not all of those games are true/solid/native 4K though.
Correct. Nobody claimed the entire list was 4K. It's a list of all of X enhanced games. Only the ones that say 4K after should be 4K. I just thought it was relevant since it's a new list, and I just ran across it moments after a similar discussion here.

I feel like Windows Central is pretty reliable, but feel free to correct anything that says 4K, that you think runs at a different resolution.

We having this debate again? Thought it jumped the shark already. What will it take to end this debate? Just tell me what I need to say to make it go away.

Well they want to code to the metal of a larger standard audience. The thing about PCs is if they want it to look good they'll just raise the minimum spec.

I definitely notice the visuals being given a lift on 360 with Rise of the Tomb Raider
