Your All Time Worst Full Price Purchase

This gen, it was No Man's Sky. Got caught in the hype. Fortunately I sold it off pretty fast and recouped most of my money.

Dumb purchases are pretty rare nowadays, though. Previous gens, I wasted lots of money on the online shooter of the month, until I realized I don't enjoy online shooters.

Been gaming since Atari and been spending too much on games since Sega Genesis so I’m going to stick to this generation in order to avoid hurting my brain thinking about it.

This gen:
- Destiny 2 and the Division. Shared world shooters sound good on paper but are boring outside of the community. Only $60 games I bought this gen that I would’ve traded back within a few days if I purchased physical.

- Nintendo Switch so far. It’s a solid little system but I bought it with Zelda, Mario and Mario Kart and nothing clicked. Bought it for road trips and business travels but I find myself back on my phone after an hour. Not selling back as I’m expecting Metroid to redeem my purchase.

The Division was great. But both it and Destiny shared the same issue, lack of content. Really hope Division 2 doesn't suffer the same issue.

I’m not saying they’re bad games. Just weren’t for me. A time-sink where winning is more about the grind than skills combined with a lack of things to see just isn’t for me. I either want variety or a skill challenge. Shared world games this gen have offered little of either.

Confused..your reasoning for it being a bad purchase is no exclusives? Something MS went to great lengths to tell people would never happen...or do you just mean Xbox exclusives in general? An issue MS had for a decade before X1X launched.

No exclusives period. I want games that justify the price tag. I haven't seen any yet from Microsoft. I don't care that they're on PC too, or if you can play them on a Smart Fridge or whatever. I need something that makes the One X hardware shine the way Horizon and God of War made the Pro shine. Otherwise, i bought a $499 paperweight that does a lot of things well but doesn't do anything special. It's not even the best place to play multiplats like Microsoft claims, PC is.

Halo 4 - campaign was fine
Halo ODST - great campaign imo but can see some not liking it

Ghost Recon Wild s*** - I loved it lol
Star Hawk - haven't played
PSVR - haven't tried
Dragon Age something - everyone is great except 2 imo
Mass Effect 2 and the new one - ME2 best mass Effect imo
Any 2K WWE game i purchased - yeah, pure s***

Taste obviously is like the buttocks, but looking at those games... I'd fix it accordingly.

I think I rented ODST so it wasn’t a purchase for me. That would get my vote had I purchased it as well.

Totally with you on Switch. Not bad, and Zelda is great when I get the itch, but I just don't game away from home, and I still haven't felt like getting into Zelda since I beat the second Legendary Beast-robot-thing.

Mario was fun for a bit too, i do love the variety, but I lost interest around that dino island. I just felt like I was starting over with every level. I need more interesting story/chatacters/context to hold my interest long term.

On games, I usually can get a good enough feeling about it from previews.

I did get Killzone 4 on the cheap, and it still wasn't worth it. I also couldn't get into Infamous Second Son.

Forza 7 ended up being too similar to 6, so that was a tad disappointing and I've barely played it (thanks in no small part the FH 3).

ReCore felt like wasted potential though it, like zelda and mario, has a pretty good concept and gameplay. Execution just lacks, and the story isn't presented well enough.

Destiny ruined bungie for me...

I don't seem to regret many purchases, even if I don't click with a game. I seem to enjoy grasping what a game offers, even if it doesn't appeal to me.

If I had to pick something though it might be Witcher III. I think I played about two hours of it in a couple of sittings and never went back. I bought it a couple of years after it came out so it wasn't impressive to me even on a technical level.

Well not a full price purchase but I found NBA 2k19 digitally for $20 over Black Friday and it keeps making my X1X shut down. I get a message saying it’s an overheating issue but my Xbox is in a wide open space.

So no enough safe to play the game lol, what a waste of 20 bucks. :really:

Send your X in. Shouldn’t be doing that.

Thinking about it but it’s the only game I have problems with so I figured it was a 2k issue

Nah. It shouldn’t do that on any game. It may catch up to you. I had a launch X with some issues as well. I called and they told me because mine was getting loud to send it in. Shouldn’t be working that hard.

Thanks, yeah I’ll give them a call then

But why? I enjoyed mine for a long time...I still have it, but don't use it anymore since the Vita came out. The amount and variety of games overall is far better than the Vita and pretty much any other handheld for me.
