All Digital Future - The Loss Of Physical Games And Media

If reports are true Walmart are getting rid of Xbox physical games next week.

The all digital future got here faster than I thought. And IF retailers are on board, there's not alot we can do to stop it.

I'll never understand the point of Ubisoft's game streaming. It is one thing to do it on the scale of MS Game Pass, but it has to be cheaper to just buy the ubisoft games you want. They don't have the games for it, and their older games can just be bought for cheap.
For the price they’re asking this why I don’t have the service. Not enough content and I already own some of their big games I got for cheap on sale.

"We don't want to take that choice away either, because as you said, there are just certain scenarios where the best example isn't going to be streaming or downloading all the games to the platform. It is really about choice for the customers because everyone has their own unique situation, and it shouldn't be about what we need or what we want as a company, but really it should be about what our customers need." - Phil Spencer

They could simply be moving it to a 3rd party. Which ultimately is cheaper but we shall see.

Playstation accounted for roughly 40% of physical games sold in the US in 2023. Xbox less than 10%. Nintendo more than Half.

The Walmart I went to today had about 25 to 30 Xbox games. Most of them were crap I'd be embarrassed to even have on my shelves. I looked for Tekken 8 and didn't see it, but they had the PS5 version.

Looks like they are starting to cull the physical copies now eh?

Unless this gen quickly turns around, I still foresee ps6 having a physical disc option which bodes well for resale market and collectors.

Some example for current gen (PS5) games:

Demon's Souls: 30% Digital, 70% Physical
Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart: 24% Digital, 76% Physical
Spiderman Miles Morales: 34% Digital, 66% Physical
Sackboy a Big Adventure: 23% Digital, 77% Physical

I imagine it will be digital only with the disc drive sold as an external attachment.
