I also agree with physical sales are not as accurate anymore because I'm sure quite a few xbox one gamers(more than 360 gamers) digitally buy their games now because of the ease of using voice commands and switching to games without having to use a cd.

I don't see MS dropping the price unless they release a sku without the kinect packed in, they seem very reluctant to lose any money on this machine and they were also reluctant to price drop the 360. They just put more content in the box or had a lower end sku with no HDD packed in. This time going with no HDD isn't an option so the only thing they can really cut out is kinect.

As far as digital vs physical sales, sure digital sales are probably higher than they were in the last gen being that games are available on day one but I doubt it's anything more than 10-20% buying exclusively digital.

Well if anything it just shows how fickle gamers are and led by PR. First everyone loved the PS2, then the 360, now we're back to the PS4? All for what? Because of a little bad PR by Microsoft this time around? It's ridiculous how people allow themselves to be led by corporations instead of just choosing what they like.

If you like the PS4 more than the Xbox One, good for you. There's nothing wrong with that. I feel like the Xbox One is going to have the better games and that's evident by Microsoft's amazing launch lineup on the One. Titanfall is just a little fish in a big pond in the grand scheme of things. Yet, it's still a bigger release than the PS4 will have in the next year or so.

No, it shows that gamers go to where they will be catered towards.

Even when lacking games, the ps4 is doing better than the xb1.

That should say something.

Sony was lambasted for their bulls*** at the beginning of last gen. For f*** sakes, do people not remember this s***?

Hell I worked at best buy when the ps3 launched. We were instructed to sell it as a blu ray player to people looking for blu ray players.

Microsoft is literally making the same damn mistakes Sony made at the beginning of last gen, minus the lack of games.

You'll see a price drop before you see a Kinect-less SKU.

They should start taking digital purchases on both formats into account. THAT, would be interesting to see. Not January....

I don't see MS dropping price either. I actually see them doing a holiday bundle with Lego Marvel Superheroes and Forza Motorsport because both games are rated for everyone, so can't do dead rising 3.

No time to panic yet for MS, I say they wait till March/April and see how system does before they panic. If system is still not selling great then I could see them dropping price but like someone said January is a bad month for sales because of taxes so 500$ price tag probably seem quite a bit to people that month.

Oddly enough, X1 has had a higher software attach ratio over PS4 since day 1 despite being $100 more. You'd think with the extra money, they would buy more games. Yet, X1 costs $100 more and actually has a higher attach ratio. Go figure.

The only reason for that is because Sony gives away awesome games every month.

Well after being wrong on almost everything you've predict/proclaimed/stated as fact as you belittled everyone who held a different opinion/view on any given subject…would you stick around when s*** hits the fan?

Especially when towards the end he was claiming everything he had said was coming true lol.

But I wouldn't necessarily agree with this. Catered too is completely subjective and if you're using it in the sense of fluff, then maybe you've got a point. I agree E3 was a disaster for them and while I was ok with the DRM, a good deal were not. Mistakes bit them in the ass and there's a ton of misinformation still out about the One. I'd say that's the reason before "Company A is catering more". Simply put, Sony has the saaaaaaaaaaame agenda with the living room. They just haven't been able to put it together yet.

They aren't making the same mistakes at all. Price, we can go back and forth on. But I don't see any of the mistakes Sony made with the PS3 initially... and in time, Sony got most of their s*** together. Microsoft is fighting two markets, 3 different competitors. I'd say they're pretty damn good at balancing both.

So let me follow this...

NPD does not track online sales, so numbers do not accurately indicate sales on X1 or PS4 for software. NPD has no number of X1 retail units sold to disclose and the only info is Sony that says it almost doubled sales of nearest next gen competitor. How did Sony get its numbers for X1? Shipped, sold through? What supply constraint when EVERY store has multiple PS4s in stock; local Gamestops have said that they aren't even moving at all since holiday.

Seems lots of speculation is all there is right now with Sony supplying info with no relevant facts.

Xbox One: They had a monster December, not surprised about the dry January.. anyone who wanted an Xbox one had no trouble finding one in the US during a much hotter buying season... January is an off month in general outside of people spending gift cards, and a $500 machine isn't exactly a gift card magnet.

PS4: Sony is fairly well stocked in the US now, ~300k is really good for January, but also likely from people having trouble finding one during the holidays.

Doom and gloomers are silly either way. Both have a relatively massive launch install base compared to past generations, and both are fairly weak on games overall, which is normal. Let's see what Titanfall and Infamous do to sales.. and then really it's going to be a fairly boring wait until the holidays to see who really shines for the entire year.

Wouldn't be shocked to see PS4 steadily beat the Xbox One.. but also wouldn't be shocked if Titanfall gave MS a huge boost and Infamous and other Sony exclusives didn't (don't consider that bias, I am probably MORE interested personally in Infamous, have both pre-ordered.)

Ceger: NPD tracks various sales from all kinds of companies, including online numbers.. then estimates. They have a great track record, which is why analysts pay them decent cash for their estimates. They don't "not count" online numbers, they account for them in their estimates.. that includes digital software sales now.

I mean.. Sony and MS use NPD numbers in their own PR.

Geoff Keihly or whatever his name was quoted the "almost double" number for PS4.. people like him are privy to the NPD estimate data directly.

If I remember right, 360 had subscription sales model where you just pay $100 first and them you have to pay monthly fee of around $20. I think this is more viable to Xbox One rather than (I'm tired to read the following two words) dropping Kinect. Some articles I remember indicated Kinect might not be that expensive anyways.

Saw this elsewhere:

First January sales
Original Xbox - 127K
Xbox 360 - 249K
PS3 - 244K
Xbox One - approx. 143K

ruh roh. It's a cold January wind that's blowing up Microsoft's shorts.

Wow when you put the numbers like that, it almost looks like it could be a flop.

The amazing thing is it wasn't supply constrained in January at all. If any of us wanted to we could have ordered an Xbox One at any hour of any day in January from Target, Wal-Mart, Gamestop, Best Buy, Amazon, etc. All had Xbox One in stock online all month.

MS need to do some calculations on price drop vs. losing market share. I don't think any old price drop will do either, they need to match the PS4 price as soon as they can. (or to be more honest, drop the price because I haven't bought the X1 yet but I'm going to sometime this year haha!)

If the sales stay poor like this hopefully they sweeten the console bundle a bit :D

It's console exclusive. That's understood when people say it's exclusive.

Yeah no kidding. But some people in that other thread are acting like this will be a system seller exclusive, when you don't have to buy an Xbox One to play Titanfall. In fact you don't even have to own it to play the best version.

Last I heard they did not track online sales, it needs to be reported to them. So if they are indeed reliably tracking that info, then it is news to me. MS and Sony do not need NPD for online sales as they have the full info themselves, otherwise yes NPD is extremely helpful for everything else.

I think it will move consoles. FPS gamers play on consoles exponentially more if memory serves. I can be remembering wrong though. I think Titanfall will be big on the Xbox One.

Right now it's 50/50 and considering every bit of hype about it from when it was believed to be multi-plat to the exclusiveness to the One ; it has the possibility of being a system seller. I mean people of who are playing it right now on the One are glaring about it. I've read maybe a handful of bad things and a ton of good. So maybe you're downplaying it just as much as those over hyping it.

And don't forget, ... January. Let's start worrying if this happens in Feb or March.

It is also on PC and 360, so we'll see what impact it has as it is not truly an X1 exclusive.

Look PS4 is selling more. Mmmmk I don't think this is cause for X1 owners to get defensive. If you made your choice console on which one was going to sell more.
You really need to rethink your purchasing decisions.

Could be reason for the delay on the 360. Many have been waiting for this title, but it will be interesting. The PC version isn't going to have any effect on the 360 or One version.

You seem upset. Also lol at the bold comment.
