Uncharted 4

The one thing that stands out with UC4 are the small animations that many might take for granted. Like when he reaches for a block to climb up or down...the way he moves his arm and hand. Or how he massages the wall as it gets close to it. Something not seen in TR. Gameplay I still give TR the edge. I find the gameplay more enjoyable in TR, along with the open world and your ability to go back. UC4 is substantially more linear in feel. I also give TR more "realistic" graphics, where I give UC4 the more "art/painted" graphics nod. But many of the tiny little animations in UC4 are just sick.

I just thought about how when Nathan is swinging on a rope, and when that rope rubs along the mountain side, the debris and smoke that shows from the rope hitting that object appears as he goes back and forth. It's those little details.

No doubt.

She does touch walls in the new TR, though. She also does that thing where she tightens her ponytail after getting out of the water.
She also reaches for her knife when enemies are close enough. I thought they did a lot of stuff like that. Animation is great on both, but nothing beats the masterful job they did on Lara's ass :hehe: The way it moves and deforms is mesmerizing..

Not to take away from Drake though. The analogue arm reaching is nice, and I like how he will slowly pull himself over if you don't just jump. I love contextual animation and there is enough variety in the melee movements that it makes an admittedly shallow system much more enjoyable.

You know, I noticed her wall touches when she SQUEEZES between walls...which usually seems "canned", but I never noticed her wall touching outside of that. Not sure why I never picked up on that. I think her "wet" appearance in including the ponytail is a solid nod.

As for dat ass...I haven't been love with a virtual ass since Agent Forty-Five in SOCOM 4. :)

I am just disappointed in this board for not informing me of this travesty of a review like they do everytime an Xbox game gets a low score.

Clearly the video game world is biased against Playstation. Only possible explanation.

You're a good poster and I get your point that people here aren't up in arms over this absurd review. But comparing the Washington Post to Giant Bomb or any major gaming site is silly.

I've been too busy playing UC4 to read reviews. I am such a gamer failure who clearly doesn't have his priorities in order. :smash::wink:

Are you saying its more legitimate to be upset over a low GB review? Serious question.

I'm just saying that gamers don't take reviews in newspapers or men's magazines seriously.

Bad reviews from gaming sites are far more damaging. Imo

1 or 2 reviews aren't going to sink a game so its still just as silly to be upset.

theres been a lot of walking around, quick time events, and crappy platforming so far. they are trying to shove an important story into a light 3rd person shooting game and its a bit meh so far. ive always felt the uncharted games could be cut in half time wise and be beter for it and thats what im still feeling

on chapter 10/11

Finished it about an hour ago. What a f***ing game man. I know i spread those buzz words like amazing, pinnacle, and apex, around a lot but Uncharted 4 is all that and more. Naughty Dog just took a huge dump all over the industry. Why can't every game be this good? Now to play it on Crushing and clean up the trophies.

Oh, and that Washington Post review, lawl. Opinions are fine and we're all certainly entitled to them but when there's a 100 people in a room, including yourself, and 99 people are telling you you're wrong chances are you're wrong. Get out of here with that crap. Just like QB getting a 77 on Metacritic. Pure rubbish. I wish i could get paid $30 an hour or whatever these people make to talk out of my ass.

Apart from some monkeys that is......

People made a fuss over GB specifically.

There was three other reviews that weren't gaming noteworthy places like WP with the same score that nobody was fussed about and there were zero petitions all around, I'm not sure why anyone would try to equate them.

The only thing shocking here is that there are 8000 people dumb enough to co-sign that, including Troy Baker.

boy this game is long for a SP game. I'm playing like an hour and a half a night. no idea why IGN said the the last part is long. I'm having a ball and don't want it to end. They really did a great job on the level design on this one the climbing is fun as s*** and the set pieces are great. The story man the story it's just so good and the game just looks great.

Finished it last night. Beast of a game. Naughty Dog is amazing.

This and The Witcher 3 are miles ahead of anything I have played.

Isn't the general consensuses that QB is a hit and miss though.
Different consensus for UC4.

When looking at metacritic reviews, UC4 did indeed score consistently higher. And rightfully so in many aspects. UC is more consistent in animations, more consistent in graphics, more consistent in frame rate, and on paper it apparently runs at a higher resolution (since nobody really knows what Remedy means about their resolution).

I think UC4 is fun and deserves the higher scores that it gets. I also agree that QB deserves to have scores lower than UC due to the lack of consistency. I have to say, I have enjoyed the actual story in QB more than UC4 (and I enjoyed UC4 story more than the new Tomb Raider). As for actual gameplay, QB brings something new TO ME, as I haven't played games with the time manipulation powers that QB uses.

My rating for UC4 is indeed higher than QB, but QB deserves a score better than 77 average on metacritic, and I think the 10 scores that are 40-50 on metacritic were weighed to heavily out of the 107 scores they have received. QB should be an 8 IMO. No, time manipulation isn't new. But what Remedy did was apply time manipulation, remedy style gameplay, along with real TV episodes (which have the BEST graphics in a game ever...much better than a game engine processed cutscene could ever accomplish).

UC4 appeals to me because of the characters, the humor, the sarcasm, and the overall quality.

If you followed the conversation, you'd note that it wasn't so much the score he assigned the game but his actual critique being completely moronic. Like I said, there were 3 other reviews that dished out the same exact score that nobody talked about.

Anyways, back to UC4. Not sure why QB was brought into this thread to begin with.

What's your favorite game?

Not sure I have one. Read Dead Redemption is one. The Witcher 3 is another. I love Halo (all of 'em except those crappy mobile ones). I love Forza (especially 6). Gears, Quantum Break (Who's story I enjoyed more than UC4's aside from the Characters because let's face it, Nate and Elana are awesome!), Tomb Raider, etc.

I love games across most genres. I don't like the "Best game" Moniker. It's too simplified. There are games I've enjoyed more, there are many games that control better, have more depth, even have superior graphical elements.

I think UC4 is a fantastic, top tier game though, and that's enough for me. I don't need to make some subjective list so I can codify my experience. Each game brings it's own experience, and I am happy to take them. I do think this game has some serious hyperbole attached to it and is getting away with some things other games get criticized for. That's ok too, as it comes down to what you expect from each game.

Favorite doesn't even have to be universally thought of as "good" by the majority. It just has to resonate with you, as it is to you and only you that it matters.

It was a 4 out of 4 stars

I think the petition is linking to a joke review since "comic-riffs" is in the URL...

I'm not so sure. There are reviews for Dark Souls 3, Quantum Break, Battleborn, The Division, Zelda Twighlight Princess HD, Fire Emblem, Firewatch, Far Cry Primal etc etc etc are all under that same section. So I don't think it's a joke review, I just think the guy hated the game and was trying to get his clickbait on.

Now the real question is why the hell they have two reviews for the same game. Unless that is normal for them, I honestly don't read there very often.

It was his opinion though(as dumb as it was)
My point was its not like QB is flowing with great reviews and like I said its hit and miss unlike UC4 and if anything the overly positive QB reviews are suspect too and I don't see anybody pointing them out.
Oh I didn't bring up QB either but you know Xboys can't help themselves.
Yes can we bring the thread back 2 UC4 talk?

A look at the previous page shows that isn't the case.

Anyways, I'm not big on review scores myself, it's never influenced a single purchase of mine. If they meant absolutely anything at all, we would have to concede that clearly flower and Journey are better than Diablo 3, Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne, Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Uncharted Collection, Rachet and Clank, Destiny, Rocket League, BF4, Doom, Metro Redux etc etc... it's all a big f***ing joke if you ask me.

Not caring about reviews is obviously valid but I am not sure even caring about reviews means you have to take them as fact like that. Although for the record I do think Journey is better than those games and deserved its praise.
