Uncharted 4

I agree on the shooting, but it is certainly servicable. It is bolstered by the movement and melee, making for some nice variety. I too recenty came off of QB, but that is Remedy, lol. The controls are very Naughty Dog, though. Kinda stiff.

I can't agree about the aliasing. On my calibrated TV (sit about 6-8 geet away) the IQ is among the best I've seen. One of the reasons the game looks so consistently nice is how clean and solid it looks.

There are plenty of noticable compromises, but it's all pulled together extremely well, imo, and the cutscenes live up to some game's pre-rendered stuff.

I too was expecting more destruction in the environment, but what's there works, and there is nice punch to impacts.

On a whole, I am really enjoying it. It's definitely a sum of it's parts, and they push the game into the upper echelon quite easily.

Agreed.

But that isn't the water everywhere. Most of the time, it doesn't look very convincing.

I'm about 2-3 feet from my TV so I can imagine people sitting much further back and not noticing the jaggies when the camera is being moved, but it's there. The static geometry in the scene (over 90% of the game) is AA pretty well, however, Nate and any other object that is in your control(or moving) shows aliasing when the camera is moving. The moment you stop moving, there is some AA that's going on. You can reproduce this by going to Photomode and move the camera around the point of interest slowly and stare at his hair, you'll see the aliasing artificats but when you stop moving the controller, the AA kicks in and removes the jaggies. It's subtle thing that allows great AA screenshots.. :)
Are those screens compressed? The game looks faaaar better than that on my screen...

Those are actual screens taken from the game (using the PS4 screen capture). They have a filter on them yes, but 1080p doesn't look faaar better. Images are more clear during gameplay, but sprites are sprites, textured foam is just that. No amount of raw image is going to make them more than what they really are.

Finally completed it. What a brilliant game. Took me around 19 hours too so plenty of content there. My favourite chapters are 6-14, 17,18 and 20.

But using PNG instead of JPEG format could also help...

Not true -- I don't like hyperbole.
I agree with this. I definitely think there is some hyperbole where this game is concerned. That said, the sum benefits uc4 more than other games.

I just went through the chase scene from the early footage, and loved every second. The spectacle was enthralling, and the part with Elana was so well done.

Man, I just got to a certain location, and the intro cinematic was like a bullshot in motion, lol... Then I saw the grenade launcher I picked up earlier on Nate's back, and the SMG in his holster... then the gameplay started... Damn...

Even the small areas of water give off that liquid looking splash effect.

As far as the ocean water it looks pretty damned good especially when you take into account the detail on the rest of the environment. I'll agree that Black Flag has more impressive looking open ocean (when it's not being blurred) but everything else on screen looks far worse not to mention the fact that the water doesn't really react to the character swimming in it in black flag, they just add a thin white sheet to represent foam but the water doesn't deform at all to a character swimming or walking through it in while it does in UC4.

Uncharted 4 has sold around 190,000 in the UK. Making it the highest selling exclusive of any next gen console in the UK.

Yeah it sold like 66% more copies than UC3 during it's launch week.

Makes sense. Not only is it a great game, but it is also on a console that is double any other console out there in the same time frame.

Some photos for you all....great game, great graphics. You can see however, which ones are cutscene and which ones are gameplay. Obvious character downgrade is obvious.

The game transitions so smoothly that it doesn't really matter. But yeah you were right about the cutscenes in the months leading up to the games release.

At least it's all in-engine now. It's a nice step up from last gen.

It's strange, a lot of the pics I see here and gaf look amazing, then some I see look downright average.

There seems to be some brightness issue with some of these shots. The game does look amazing a lot. I will say that last night I popped in Tomb Raidert, and it goes pretty toe to to with UC4, imo. The big edge UC4 gets is the IQ- it just looks so solid. TR actually seems to have slightly better material rendering and more geometry in it's objects as compared to UC4. Lara's model is just as good as Nate's, and the animation is great on both. I really found it interesting to observe the difference in how they captured the male/female essence of the two. Both are strong, believable characters and I really enjoy the tonal and personality differences between them.

I definitely feel like Lara controls better than Nate , but I love, love, love the melee options in UC4. I will never get enough of kicking guys off of cliffs, lol. I also like the mobile combat in UC4. It feels more of a legitimate option to incorporate movement into the fights. Love the stealth in both.

Visually, I feel like TR is going for a more real, gritty asthetic, whereas UC is more of a painting. Overall, I'm just glad I can have both!

The one thing that stands out with UC4 are the small animations that many might take for granted. Like when he reaches for a block to climb up or down...the way he moves his arm and hand. Or how he massages the wall as it gets close to it. Something not seen in TR. Gameplay I still give TR the edge. I find the gameplay more enjoyable in TR, along with the open world and your ability to go back. UC4 is substantially more linear in feel. I also give TR more "realistic" graphics, where I give UC4 the more "art/painted" graphics nod. But many of the tiny little animations in UC4 are just sick.

I just thought about how when Nathan is swinging on a rope, and when that rope rubs along the mountain side, the debris and smoke that shows from the rope hitting that object appears as he goes back and forth. It's those little details.

Wooow. I like the game, but it is far from the greatest ever made, lol. The hyperbole for the game is off the Charts... ;)
Why didn't the guy go to bat for Quantum Break when Giant Bomb gave it a 4/10 when it clearly didn't deserve such a low score. Oh those double standards.

I am just disappointed in this board for not informing me of this travesty of a review like they do everytime an Xbox game gets a low score.

Clearly the video game world is biased against Playstation. Only possible explanation.
