My solution: Stop letting review numbers influence your entertainment.

Trying to follow them will lead you into buying 10/10 rated games that are boring as piss and avoiding lower rated titles which might have great but overlooked qualities. I say go with your gut.
 
I stopped just after the 3rd video. Got tired of the time break obstacles courses etc. It was too conventional I was expecting some freaky mind bending time s***, but it was just kind of bland and safe.

I guess that depends on if you bought it for the SP or MP. I actually had a ton of fun in splitscreen MP with my kids the other day, and having all those games in one package with Halo 2A was absolutely worth the money, imo. Hell, even as annoying as the online MP was, it was still pretty magical when it worked. I was always saddened that they couldn't get the game to play nice with itself in that regard.

I really thought this game was a pile of crap. I remember sitting there at one point just being pissed off and bored playing it and suddenly realising I was both pissed off and bored playing it. So I switched it off and deleted and it and went and played something far better.
True story.

I suppose the thing to do would be to read the reviews to see what they downgraded it for, at least, for anyone who gives a flying pickletickle about the reviews and actually wants to learn. I, for one, loved the hell out of the game and if someone else doesn't because they don't want to have their pewpew time interrupted by plot, let alone twenty minutes of plot at a time, that's their choice. They're wrong, of course, and I'll be wrong to them, but I get to have my own fun (when you're married this long, in fact, you kind of have to).

It was worth it as a SP game but reviews should have reflected a slightly buggy but really good SP game but a broken MP game which was maybe the #1 selling point. That is an area where you can complain about video game reviews as you have many rushing to get the reviews out without properly playing a game. That is still the perfect game to show no wide spread bias though because you could have been justified to give that a super low score and it didn't happen.

People that want to declare all negative Xbox opinions as being the home to people with an agenda to take down Xbox are simply people that want to reject any opinion they don't agree with.

I agree with that. It's also easy to read the negativity in forums and comment sections and conflate them with the video/review. That said, I often become baffled with reviews. I've definitely felt that a number of MS's games got harsher treatment than they deserved, and I've also felt a number of Sony's games were quite over-hyped. Hell, I am not sure game site reviews are reliable simply because reviewers play games as a job. It can be hard to "get" a game if you are powering through it to get your work done.

Such are opinions though.

I just accept that I don't have the same tastes as a lot of reviewers. If I read a review, and even if it's negative, and there are things mentioned that I like, that will make me want a game. I just do what I think everyone should do and not give reviews too much weight. Same with movies. It's all so subjective. For me, watching game-play usually gives me the best indicator of if I will like a game or not.

Yeah, I think that's the smart way to go. Watch gameplay, read reviews, and weigh that against your own preferences.

It's all just individual opinion. Everyone has biases (or perspectives, or preferences). So of course game reviewers will have biases, just like everyone else, including forum goers.
