Not saying it is a carbon copy. But you really think that is enough after a decade?
Honestly, I really think there was a ton more they could/should have done. I'm saying that what they did do is still a step up and quite enjoyable.

It does! I just wish the launch pad didn’t take up the same space as the grenades.

For me, co-op is where it’s at. Playing through it with the same buddy I played through CD1 with.

This game is really like an homage to CD. As stated here already, there is so much they could do with this title! I hope they give it to a new studio and we get a full-on, proper 4 one of these days.

Yeah it'd be nice if the gadget and the grenades were separated so you could have both, it's not like they have to worry about the character being OP in a single player game, especially when you have 10-15 enemies coming after you at once sometimes.

Basically if you're a fan of the first Crackdown, you will enjoy this game. If you're not a fan of the first Crackdown or never played it, you most likely will not like this game.

Agree, you may have opinions on it whether you like it or not though.
Take rdr2, in my top 5 games ever made, I still think the main story missions (until the last two chapters) are handled poorly gameplay wise and that they are way too restricted, still, it's 10/10 for me. So me criticizing crackdown for its many shortcomings (which are all mostly correct and not just opinions) isn't me saying I don't like the game.

I like it but it's really just a slightly above average game overall, it's fun but very shallow. It does some things really well, they've fixed some things that were problems with the original game like the melee combat and handling but in some other areas they haven't advanced it much at all. Either way I'm having fun with it, I'd recommend it to people who liked the first game for sure. People who are getting offended by 6's need to realize that's not really a bad score, it's just above average. Yeah we all wish every game was a 9 or a 10 but that's just not reality, on a 1-10 scale 5 is average and this is just slightly above that so a 6 is fair and also still worth giving a shot IMO.

Still, the 1-10 scale are mostly used as a 1-5 scale where a 5 basically is a 0-1 and a 6 a 1-2, which would be fairly poor to mediocre. An average games score today (looking at gaming media reviews) would be 7-7.5. It's a strange evolution but I'm guessing this happened when reviewers didn't have time to play all games anymore because of the flood of games that's been coming the last two decades. They mostly only review good games or hyped games (which aren't always good).

Oh yeah I know some people think anything below a 7.5 is terrible but I think we can all find a game we've enjoyed in the past that scored poorly in reviews. I liked Blood wake but that is generally regarded as a bad game lol. I think anything from a 6.5 to a 7.5 is totally fair here, anything beyond that would seem a bit much to me, that being said this is my 2nd favorite X1 exclusive (Ori is first) that I've played on my One X. It's not the best looking but I'm having more fun with it than I did Halo 5 or Gears 4.

Finally have my Xbox back in business. Have put in 5 hours of Crackdown. Playing on 2nd hardest difficulty. Default difficult seems too easy and would get boring real quick.

I think scores between 6.5-7.0 seem about right. Nothing about it is mind blowing. It’s solid fun. Yes it plays and looks like a more detailed 360 game (with the exception of amazing HDR). As a big fan of backwards compatibility, I appreciate more simplistic fun sometimes.

The good.
- Movement is pretty great and is the highlight of the game.
- Progression. It’s addictive to collect stuff and upgrade loop is pretty solid.
- Visuals. Technically and artistically not great...but the use of HDR and color make the game pleasant to look at anyways.

But...even though I’m having fun now, can see where it’s going to get tedious before I beat it. There are a ton of missed opportunities. My biggest disappointments....
- Poor weapon balancing. I don’t feel like we have the rock, paper scissors situation where different guns are better for different situations.
- Action doesn’t require much skill. There’s some strategy involved but I do wish the campaign introduced non lock on weapons which had either more damage or range just to change things up. I’m sometimes locking on to guys in the distance based on where fire is coming from that I can’t see.
- Lack of creative platforming puzzles. For the most part, platforming and orb collecting is very straightforward. Not much in the way of platforming puzzles or skill jumps required.
- No enemy AI. Enemies won’t flank you. Won’t do anything interesting. They lock onto you far away without moving much and you lock onto them far away.

Bottom line is this is a fun mindless game to mess around with while listening to music or a podcast in the background. So many missed opportunities. Sandbox and gameplay aren’t dynamic which is going to make for a game that will get boring as the repetition kicks in.

Multiplayer is a train wreck...and not in the cloud destruction good kind of wreck. I feel like there’s enough there to come up with a mode to save it but as is it sucks. Will uninstall Wrecking Zone until they add a tower destruction.

I think people giving it under 6’s are clickbaiting. Nothing broken about the game. Feels like a AA game with potential. Expected more but what’s there was worth releasing. Should be $30-$40 at release.

Disclaimer: don’t have the black hole gun or rocket launcher yet so maybe my opinion goes up when I can cause crazier explosions.

Sure, I've had numerous poorly reviewed games giving me lots of fun (too human, that 50 cent game, AC Unity and more).
Also, been playing CD3 some more this morning, it's growing on me the more powerful I get. Would put it around a 7.5 atm

I have a feeling this is the video game equivalent of F&F Shaw and Hobbs, pure popcorn flick....I’ve only played the first ones demo, which I liked.

The game is at least an 8 in my book. Sumo killed this s***. Great job!

VaL you can be such a toad at times, Jesus Christ. 'Give me a fuking headache.

Whats really funny is how you havent even played the game and just going with what the flock says. Your decision has been made for you by a metacritic number like the rest of dem fools.....and you're laughing at me?

I don't see where it is 8.

The story is basic at best.
The combat is detached and not very satisfying.
The leveling up hasn't really given anything great, i am level 4 on everything but driving.
The boss fights have been a joke thus far.
The mission structure and overall gameplay loop is extremely repetitive and grows boring rather quckly.

The 2 good things that stand out for me are: Weapon diversity and Propaganda towers.

With the exception of the first boss fight I’ve actually quite enjoyed them. Agree with pretty much everything else though.

Dont what to tell you. I never care about stories in video games but this one has more story than the first. It is basic though, yep.
I like the combat. That's the best part aside from leaping from buildings in search of orbs. What do you mean detached?
Boss fights are pretty epic after the second boss (to me)
Gameplay loop has always been the same. Though this is a bit better than first or second Crackdown together.

But, I mean, your Menace. You're like, part Ukrain or Russian. Always gloomy on everything. I can dig it. You arent feeling the game. I just disagree

That last sentence is utter bulls***, and a lame way to try and dismiss my opinion.

Detached, I mean it is just something you do...it doesn't have any kind of feedback at all. There is no excitement to it, no satisfaction. Same thing for the bosses really.

.... I thought the "uk" was because him being british, you mean he's Ukrainian...? Interesting.
I dont know what that boi is. I know he can find the darkness and negative in a piece of Wonder bread though. Menace don't play...

Ask him about the state of mankind. You'll feel fantastic!

Played the SP for a couple hours this morning. I was having a blast. I like the controls and felt right at home immediately. Once the map opened up traversing the city collecting orbs is just as addicting as ever. The lighting looks great, the draw distance is nice you can see the city and orbs easily at a distance, and the game runs smooth. The graphics in general are not on the level of newer next gen standers though. The combat and shooting while simple so far gets the job done. This is one of those games you can jump on play an hour or two have some fun jump off and go back to anytime. I will definitely be putting time into this game for awhile.

If you’re a fan (like me) of the first Crackdown you will have a good time. If you go in expecting some greater next gen experience like other open world games recently you will probably be disappointed. This is a throwback to the original and that is not necessarily a bad thing.

I hope they add the option to turn off chromatic aberration, I don't know why so many game devs think this is a good thing to add to their games, it always hurts the visuals IMO and takes away from the higher resolution.

See what I mean? Whenever I need a pick me up, I come to this site to see what side of the bed Menace woke up on and have a cup of coffee. By time I'm done, I just feeling like blowing my brains out. Works like a charm. Lol

After playing Crackdown for myself, it is one more example of the crap show gaming media bias. I have much harsher language but I am going to restrain myself.

In conclusion, the low score reviews are trash.

All the criticism are correct, it is just a matter of how you feel about them!

Poor story: True, but it's an arcade game and it's refreshing to just be able to play a simple game without tons of exposition.

Most of the problems it is that it is an arcade game, not an epic game. If you enjoy arcade games it's worth a download on gamepass.

The one issue that really holds this game back is the AI: It's fun to rain destruction, but some basic enemy dodges and movement would really improve the game. Even the teleporting enemies are easy since you gan just blow them up before they phase.

As you progress the enemies do get tougher and smarter. Thats for sure!

This game suffers from "massive damage" syndrome.
  • Ms was reeling from XB1 reception
  • They latched on to cloud technology to help shift the narrative
  • Crackdown had a demo that they could showcase the technology
  • They tried to make a game from the demo, instead of having the game concept first
  • Crackdown got saddled with unrealistic expectations and hype/hate
  • Development seems to have suffered from having to make an unworkable demo work and SP just copied the original
  • Those of us that enjoyed the original are happy to essentially have a remaster of the game
  • Those expecting more are disappointed or had their hate bias confirmed.
