When was the last time you played the original? I've played it within the last 3 months and 3 smokes it pretty handily. Every encounter was pretty much the same in the original. You never even get to a point where you can jump entire buildings in the original, but I know that in the new one you definitely get stronger as you go

There are plenty of improvements over the original. Not that that is all that hard. It is Bigger, prettier, controls better, has new moves and gadgets, more enemy variety, etc. It's not a carbon copy. That said- it really isn't going beyond what a Crackdown game has been in general, and that's a shame. THAT said- it's still fun, and does have a weirdly pure (to quote Swede) quality to it.
Not saying it is a carbon copy. But you really think that is enough after a decade?

Only used cars in the other games just for the completion stuff but yeah why drive once you've levelled up and can run really fast and jump high and far

Nah. They need to stick with Crackdown - not throw it on the shelf because its not exactly knocking it out of the park on this go 'round. Hopefully we'll see a Crackdown 4 in the future.

Its crazy how people keep saying Microsoft needs to drop this Ip or that Ip and then later on, they b**** about Xbox having no games. Crackdown is seriously a game that deserves to be a pillar franchise. The SP and MP both are solid AF!

Phil said he wants to make Crackdown a pillar franchise so we'll see what happens.
I think they should keep it. The game is fun is short 60 min or less sessions.

They have to change this game loop though. Need more varied objectives and missions. Driving needs massive changes. The ability upgrading systdm needs modifying

Who wants to drive in a game as platform jumping driven as Crackdown? The whole sell is "jump building to building."

Surprisingly driving in the first one was kind of fun, in this one it just doesn't seem to be as good. That being said I only drove in the first one to upgrade the vehicles, jumping around was always more fun.

Anyone else having sound issues from time to time, I've had the sound get choppy on me several times tonight.

They had a good first game, an awful sequel and went about 9 years before releasing the next game (CD3) in the series which is getting mediocre reviews, that's not really something you make a pillar of your gaming library, especially when you are already knocked for not doing anything new. Clearly this game had development issues, not so much because it was hard to crack the CD code but because of juggling developers and having the wrong priorities (MP never should have been a focus for this series) we could have had this game as it is a long time ago but they had to try to squeeze MP into it just to try to show what they could do with the cloud which isn't really lighting the world on fire after all this time.
Yeah, gonna disagree with this. MP is actually doing pretty good and will probably grow after this weekend. GP will see to that.

And just because this game didnt go ham on meta (which, who really gives a s*** about a fuking number telling you what's good for you or not) doesnt mean this should be yet, another title that Microsoft should dump because salty gamers or clickbait thirsty media (not all of them but more than a few ) decided to compose a self-serving opinionated "why I think I should be in charge of a game like Crackdown though I have no clue or ambition to actually develop a game, or what it takes to make one"

They really need to stick with this title and make more. No more abandoning titles because critically, they arent major hits first time out of the gates.

Like a lot of the IPs they have they should be willing to make more but only in the right situation. They would probably need to force in on one of their studios now and nobody should want that.

Anyone else not even bother driving? I think I've driven a car once or twice since I started playing, they just don't feel all that great to drive and honestly getting around on foot seems like the better way to go if you want to spot agility orbs etc.
Well each car drives very different. Driving orbs can improve your handling.

I've been playing the campaign. Its so much mindless fun. A good lazy Saturday morning game. I feel like this may end up being like State of Decay 2 for me. A critically panned game that I get many solid hours of enjoyment out of. Not going to mess with the Multiplayer until they get the party situation worked out.

Honestly, it would be cool if they had a team dedicated to making Crackdown games. I honestly would like to see Xbox keep it's GTA style open world game. The prospect of something like that happening is super cool to me.

Played about 2 hours... not troll, but take away 4k and the incredible hdr and it honestly looks like a remastered 360 title. The gunplay is mediocre; hold LT to auto aim, hold RT to shoot, wait until spongy enemy dies (maybe it gets better? ). The animations on Terry looks better than I thought but enemies animations are mediocre even by 360 standards. On the positive; it's fun, collecting orbs and upgrading feels great, Terry is great, voice acting and cutscenes are surprisingly well done and interesting, hdr and lighting is awesome, sound is great, the music in the intro scene epicly badass, jumping feels good after a few upgrades, collecting cars is fun (driving is meh though), city looks amazing at distance on top of buildings.
Feels like it'll get repetitive but 2 hours in I'm not judging yet.

My impressions from my short time in SP:

This isn't a review, but if it were, the title would be - "F***ing gravity!"

The game is fun and addictive. It stays true to the original, almost to a fault. The most fun I had in 1 was chasing orbs and climbing, and so far that's what I'm having fun with now.

The game is amazing looking on X1X. The details at distance is really good and on X1X the framerate is smooth. I climb up on top of something and just look around. Then I see a distant orb or even just a cool looking building and off I go. I've barely done any actual combat.

The downsides:
-It isn't very innovative
-The combat is pretty shallow. Mostly just use cover/rooftops to take out bullet sponge enemies.

In conclusion: would I spend $60 on it? Probably not. Will this win GOTY? Of course not. Is it fun? Absolutely. If you loved Crackdown 1 as many of us did, you'll enjoy this.

By what you're describing I am clearly see you've never played Crackdown 1

Played like 3 hours yesterday. Still love the orb hunting. Gameplay is definitely dated and pretty much is Crackdown 1 with updated visuals.

Lot of potential there though. Could be a solid replacement to SSOD since we will probably never get a sequel if done right.

They need to get a solid studio on it though that can breath some fresh air into the franchise gameplay and visually, while still maintain some core aspects like orb hunting and leveling up.

The melee combat in this game is much more satisfying than it was in the original, I've been spending more time punching people than shooting lol. I do really miss the charging jump to go really high like the first one had though, using thrusters just doesn't seem the same and I could be wrong but I don't think I get anywhere near as much height or distance with the jumps in this game as we could in the first one.

I sort of remember the original being the same way until you upgraded your skills. I'm assuming it gets a lot better as we upgrade.

It does! I just wish the launch pad didn’t take up the same space as the grenades.

For me, co-op is where it’s at. Playing through it with the same buddy I played through CD1 with.

This game is really like an homage to CD. As stated here already, there is so much they could do with this title! I hope they give it to a new studio and we get a full-on, proper 4 one of these days.

I've upgraded the jumping quite a bit, I think I only have one level left to go, I have the double air dashes, I hope the charge jump is there at some point.

My general thoughts are that driving is nice to have in the game, but the main course is the jumping and maybe even gliding.

It’s a really fun game to play for a few hours at a time. I’ve done theee boss bangles now and they have all had different mechanics and have been really enjoyable. It’s a no brainer to pick this up on game pass. You’d be finished it with after a couple of weeks.
