I'm pretty sure that is what the mesh shaders are for. I'm sure both companies are supplying remedies for the same problems.

Yep. 13 minutes into the DF reveal video they talk about this. Right after this, they talk about Velocity...and basically describe the same benefits the PS5 SSD is doing. They're both using their own buzzwords to accomplish similar things.
In the end, differences are compute power vs content loading.
