I hope they can pull it together. I have a feeling that 343 was constantly reassuring MS higher ups them that everything was great and on track, but maybe Phil and company only knew what it really looked like in gameplay form just prior to the reveal. At that point they felt they were already committed to showing it, the internet backlash ensued, and MS management decided to step in and let 343 know they were going to be overseeing things closely through release.

Microsoft has a very hands off approach right now. They can't micromanage all these studios at the rate they're expanding. While Obsidian, InXile, Ninja Theory, Double Fine, Playground etc can all be left alone because they've waded through the rough waters on their own, 343 is a different beast. They were built under the most corporate version of Xbox 1st party. They were constantly guided by execs. They're the only studio I can identify who's not led by a creative. Maybe they're struggling to handle this transition of creative autonomy under their current leadership. They just changed major creative leads last year.

To be fair, it's possible the new leads who were brought in weren't handed the smoothing sailing ship and still anticipate getting it in order by launch. I'm willing to wait and see before freaking out further.

Or maybe none of you know what the hell you are talking about, and 343 is fine with where they are at? I mean, it is COVID and work at home time. They are not alone in delays and changes.

This gets overlooked actually. How many AAA launch games on either platform have shown true gameplay? Assasins Creed and Halo as far as I recall. AC still running at 30fps looking very current gen. It's a tough year for AAA development.

Yeah I don't see how we can assume anything off an eight minute video. I'm reserving judgement until game us released.

Then they shouldn't release

Or let's see what 343 wants to give us. Only they know how far along they are.

Well its not like they have never released a game long before it was ready but I agree that we need to see more to make any real judgement

Right move and shouldn't be viewed as a bad move.

Launch lineups almost always stink so no "system seller" is irrelevant although I'm now unable to name a single launch title so that's not ideal

Fine with me. I've got so many games, new games aren't too much of a concerned. I need to play catch up...and that's good thing.

Honestly, that game will own me for the rest of the year... I kinda like that I won't have to be distracted by My favorite franchise of all time. Still a bummer. I'm used to being underwhelmed by Halo Graphics, and I have been jonesing for a new Halo for 5 years now. Hell, I'm still Playing Ghost of Tsushima...

Same. I’m happy they are delaying if they feel the need to. I was planning on upgrading my whole home entertainment system this Fall, but now I don’t really see a reason to get either system at launch. Maybe if I already had a 4k tv, but I’m still holding out to see what they show early next year.

This will be the first time ever that I don’t get a new system at launch. Weird!

Anyone with a brain saw that coming. After the reactions of the gameplay demo's visuals and 343i saying "we've heard you loud and clear" this is an obvious decision.
Most people with a brain HOPED a delay was coming, but up to that reveal, I believe that Phil repeatedly said it was still on track for launch. I could be wrong on that, though. If not, I'm really starting to question Phil's leadership there.

What I don't get, is why they didn't just say this during the "we've heard you loud and clear" statement itself, or even before showing the footage itself, and maybe they could have saved the aftermath. I guess what I'm trying to say is: How were they so confident?

Sorry folks, that my take sounds negative. This is actually positive news. Just one last "WTF?", hopefully.

That is always what you say all the way up until you delay and at the end of the day them being willing to delay is still a better sign then them being willing to put it out regardless of what state it is in because its a launch title.

But its hard to see how they couldn't have seen any of these issues previous to showing it off to the public so that's the head scratcher to me.
